FreeBSD 4.8 / Samba 3.0.11 - more signal 11's than before... (3.0.8)
The error message is the usual panic error - 3.0.11 and FreeBSD 4.8. Samba 3.0.8 ran fine with the same config (admittedly there were a few roaming profile sync related crashes, which is why I was upgrading). Now however I can't even connect - it crashes immediately, respawns and crashes again. My Samba server is a domain member of a Win2003 domain controller used for roaming profile

Samba 2.2.5 & Domain Administrator
Although I will be updating this server to Samba 3.x soon, I have to come up with a quick solution as soon as possible for the following problem: I have a WinXP user which currently is registered as a "User" of WinXP but must be changed to "Domain Admin" in order for some new software which he must use to be operable. Of course giving him the root passwd is definately out of

My Windows 2003 machines can get to shares on my older Samba servers (2.2.8a), however on newer versions of Samba (3.0.2), I get the following error message: \\servername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The request is not supported. These same shares are

Excel & samba-3.0.11 slowness/hanging/lockup issues... Anyone?
Here's the problem we're encountering: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Having intermittent problems regarding users opening/accessing/saving/writing MS Excel files into samba shares. When a user accesses a file on a shared volume via samba, they can open an Excel file and end up with one of two conditions; either their system hangs after opening the file for a short pause

Joining a samba domain on WinXP without a root login?
I've been able to succesfully join XP boxes to the samba domain on samba 2.2.3a (yes, I know it's old), registering the machine name and so forth, as many guides and so forth have shown online. However, it requires entering root's smbpasswd when joining the domain -- and I'd rather not have a Windows machine with any sort of remotely related root access to our servers,

Permission problems writing to Share from SQL Agent
Hello: I have a client that is using MS SQL Server in a Windows 2003 server. They have a Linux machine (Fedora Core 3) that is acting as a file server using Samba. We want to write backups from the SQL Agent for SQL Server to one of the shares on the Samba server. If I set the share to allow guest access, the SQL Agent can write the backups just fine using \\Shares\SQLBackups\pubs.bak but, if

R is a virus, spyware or malware (gasp!)
After a search session in Google, I found this page: http://www.prevx.com/filenames/X1993788672854780728-0/RGUI.EXE.html which classifies Rgui.exe (clearly stated as "R for Windows GUI front-end") in a database of virus, spyware and malware! No comments! Philippe Grosjean

WinXP looking for *.dll share names?
Hi folks, Over the last few weeks, one of our WinXP machines (of many) has started generating errors like the following in our log files: Jul 5 09:43:30 blah smbd[13180]: blah-xp (192.168.1.1) couldn't find service sharename.dll where "sharename" is a real share name that this user should be mapping. We see lots of these errors, one for each share the user tries to map. In

can't find how to solve "QEMU guest agent is not connected"
I am trying to make Qemu agent work with libvirt thanks to https://github.com/NixOS/nixops/pull/922 with libvirt 4.1.0. I've been trying to make it work for quite some time but I still haven't the slightest idea of what is wrong, I keep seeing "Guest agent is not responding: QEMU guest agent is not connected" as the program I use (nixops) calls the libvirt python API. I

Tags Layout
Hi, When looking into a Flac file with an hexadecimal editor, I observe that the different tags (date, tittle, etc...) are, one time all displayed in capital letters (DATE=), on an other time all displayed in minus letters (date=), or...a mix of both : some tags in capital letters, others in minus letters. For tagging (and encode/decode) I use the Flac Frontend listed on your site. When testing

/var partition overflow (due to spyware?) in FreeBSD default install
All: I'm posting this to FreeBSD-security (rather than FreeBSD-net) because the problems I'm seeing appear to have been caused by spyware, and because they constitute a possible avenue for denial of service on FreeBSD machines with default installs of the operating system. Several of the FreeBSD machines on our network began to act strangely during the past week. Some have started to

[LLVMdev] r204593 breaks Asan tests on FreeBSD
Hello Alexey, I just worked out the config for the FreeBSD 9.2 buildbot (follows below). One important thing about this config is that the C++11 headers are set up at the /usr/include/c++/v1 directory--it's where clang expects them to be on FreeBSD, so no need for the "-I" options in the CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS variable. Unfortunately, clang (both v3.3 used to be the default compiler

Hello R mailing list We are trying to use R and Sweave, running as a web service on a server to prepare statistical reports but are having problems with our anti-virus software apparently prohibiting execution due to what we think is Sweave trying to run an executable in one of the system's temporary folders.
