Getting Winbind IDMAP into LDAP?
Hi, I?ve been trying to populate an LDAP directory with IDMAP information from Winbind using NSS_LDAP without much success over the last week. Can anybody tell me if I?ve done anything obviously wrong? I?ve followed the example shown in the Samba ?By Example? doc and am at the stage where the LDAP directory has been created and configured, NSS_LDAP config is amended, smb.conf contains entries to

Active Directory integration - where to go next??
Hi, I think I've hit a bit of a brick wall with integrating Samba and Active Directory and aren't sure which direction I should go - I've had a look through the How-To and this made me doubt myself even more. At the moment I've configured a Samba domain member to authenticate users against AD. wbinfo and getent both correctly produce user/groups lists from AD and test

Migrating data from W2K - losing Windows ACL's
Hi, I've been running some test data copying from a W2K box to our new Samba box but have noticed that the assigned Windows ACL's are lost when copying. The only ACL's specified are those assigned to the directory in Linux that the data is being copied to. Is there any way to retain the Windows ACL's? Either through an smb.conf parameter or some other feature? System config is

AD group membership limits?
Hello All, I read a post on patching kernel 2.4.x to get more groups. I currently cannot upgrade my RHEL3 as RHEL4 is not supported but need to take advantage of additional groups over 32. I read a similar post that a patch more_groups_simple.patch can be applied. I have no success in patching though.. linux-2.4]# patch -p1 --dry-run -i more_groups_simple.patch Just wondering if anyone

MS Access macro's running very slowly
Hi, I?ve recently migrated to a Samba3 server and everything seems to be running well apart from a problem with some users that run macros in MS Access. I?m told that a process which used to take 15min on the old W2K server took over an hour on the new samba box. After having a scan through the archives I think the problem may be related to oplocks/locking but I?m pretty sure I?ve got these

Netbench controller crashs
Hi All, I'm running netbench against our samba based filer and having I believe a controller problem. When I configure the test to run multiple engines per client (about 5 in my case) and about 20 clients so all together I have 100 engines, the controller crashes. My clients are a mix of NT4, winxp and win2000 systems. If I run the controller on windows 2003, the controller simply

Groups and bwplot
Dear R-users, A while ago, Deepayan Sarkar suggested some code that uses the group argument in bwplot to create some 'side-by-side' boxplots (https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2010-February/230065.html). The example he gave was relatively specific and I wanted to generalize his approach into a function. Unfortunately, I seem to have some issues passing the correct arguments to the

UTMP duplicated entries
Hi everybody! I've been noticing some strange entries in samba/utmp. I have a lot of 00:00 timed sessions. But the worst problem is that i found some conflicting information. Since windows doesn't allow concurrent login sessions, I think utmp should not have generated the following entries. liana smb/2 192.168.0.207 Fri Sep 2 18:43 - 00:52 (06:08) rodrigobaso

samba 3 performance
Yes, I get more than 30MB/s performance. The benchmark I use (NetBench) is essentially CPU bound, such that a faster processor = faster performance. With a very fast hardware config (dual 3.2GHz processors), I've been able to hit around 100MB/s. Changing the RAM or other attributes does not buy me much, it seems that processor power is the bottleneck (at least in my case). When doing your

Active DNS registration on join realm?
Dear Samba members, I am wondering if on joining a realm (with security=ADS), samba 3.x server gets automatically registered with MS Dynamic DNS server. My test with Samba 3.0.14a on linux did not reveal any such capability. But may be because I did not use the correct option? I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance, -Arup Biswas

tune2fs -l stale info
Hello, I just noticed that 'tune2fs -l' did not returned a "lively" updated information regarding the free inodes count (looks like it's always correct after unmounting). It became suprising after an online resizing operation, where the total inode count was immediatly updated (grown in my case) but the free inode count was the same: one could deduce that suddenly a lot of

'security = ads' & 'valid users ='
I will be upgrading my Samba server from 2.2.8a to 3.0.10. I currently have security set to 'share' and plan on migrating to 'ads' for improved authentication. I have one snag, though... I have remote users who reside in and are managed by a Windows domain that is not in my control. There is no trust relationship at all. If I use 'ads' security, can I add a 'valid

Occasional fchown errors?
Hi: I get the occasional error below. Is there something I don't have configured correctly? Or should I just ignore this? It is not always this file, sometimes it is the cache.lock file or the log.newlock file. I have a mail client running on my computer and my phone at the same time, could that have something to do with it? Nov 10 08:32:59 rabbitbrush dovecot: IMAP(bob):

Superposing data on boxplot
Hi folks, I have a vaiable Y and an associated factor Z at several (13) levels. boxplot(Y~Z) produces a nice array of boxplots, one for each level of Z, and each duly labaelled with its level of Z. I would like to superpose on each boxplot the actual data points which it represents, i.e. do something conceptually (though not in real R) expressed as points(Y~Z) or points(Z,Y) It can
