some (basic?) development questions...
Pardon my ignorance, as I just started playing with Ogg stuff a few days ago, but I'd appreciate some help if someone has time... I was trying to write a very basic comment editor for Ogg Vorbis files. I think I mostly have it working, but it seems to output slightly broken streams. Here's a basic overview of what I'm doing; could someone tell me if I've got the right basic

how do you manage printers on workstations?
How do you manage printers on Windows workstations? What I mean, suppose you have many classrooms, different printers (which sometimes change) in these classroms - how do you manage which workstation (or a group of them) will use which printer? So far I've been using WPKG for that - as I described here: http://wpkg.org/wiki/index.php/Printer_configuration But somehow I feel it

script to automatically install printers to win clients?
Hi I have a samba server 3.0.0-15 acting as a PDC on a Windows domain (98, XP and 2000). Is there a way to automatically install printers to windows clients when users log in? Maybe by running a logon script... Thank you in advance. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Win a $20,000 Career Makeover at Yahoo! HotJobs

Multiple Login scripts
Hi all, Just a quick question about login scripts for a large number of users who change rooms a lot. I have several rooms each with a printer, and nearly a thousand users divided into two main groups - pupils and teachers who change rooms on a routine basis. Is it possible to set up multiple login scripts that would be executed in sequence i.e. run by user is %u, and machine is %m is it

removing observations
Hello R list. I am sure this is an easy question, please forgive my ignorance of R. I have a panel data set (25 years) and I would like to break it up by year, and run a few tests. How is this done in R? In STATA it is quite simple (keep if year =1970). If someone could give me an example of how to do it for a single year I am sure I could make a little loop to do it for all 25.

"load printers = Yes" produces working but invisible printers
Hi, I am running samba 3.0.21c (Sernet packages on Debian Sarge) and trying to automatically share cups printers via "load printers = Yes" - Printing seems to work if you install the printers on the client by calling con2prt.exe, but - the printers do not appear as shares when browsing the network neighbourhood or calling "net view \\servername" on the client. - They

winxp + sp3 = samba-shared printer hangs the system
hi, since I upgraded some winxp-pro sp2 client to sp3, my samba-shared printers are no-longer usable :-/ With sp3, if I run notepad and choose the men? File-Print, the "print" window hangs and does not show any printer for about 1 minute! The same thing happens when I click on the men? Start-settings-Printer and faxes. With sp2, everything works correctly and I can browse all my

Folder Redirection with NT4 Domains
Hi, I'd like to hear off-list from anyone who is currently successfully using folder redirection with an NT4 domain controller. If you are doing this, please would help me to understand your secret. There are two ways I know of that should work, however I have received feedback from separate sources that claim problems with both of these methods. I would like to include in the new book

Drop in NT print server replacement; NT print names and NT share names-how to handle with Samba
Hello samba list members, I am going to be replacing out NT print server with a linux/samba solution. My main problem/question is how will the NT clients deal with the Samba server when the following facts are true. 1. NT creates an NT printer name 2. When you actually share the printer, you can create a totally different share name. For example we have the following printer, (and numerous

login scripts --what to use
Hi, We're setting up a PDC, and would like to have a login script to deliver the mapped drives to users in particular groups, and connect to printers. The printer drivers come from the [print$], share. Does anyone have any good resources for this? What's the easiest and simplest thing to get going --vbscript or batch files? Thanks, chris

adding printers from netlogon script
I don't know the final answer BUT if you have something simmilar to a cyber-cafe LAN (I mean, users use all the computers, and maybe some users come back to login with the same name) then you have to install a printer only once in a computer, loging as the administrator and installing drivers. Then what users will have to do is JUST add the printer without installing. I know that it's

adding printers from netlogon script
While this doesn't relate specifically to Samba, I need to do this in a netlogon .bat file in a Samba domain. In my network, I have a printer hooked to a JetDirect so that it is a TCP/IP printer. Is there a way I can automatically have this printer mapped/added when the user is logged on? -- Andrew Gaffney

Cups 1.2.7 Debian Etch with Samba 3.0.24 Clients: WinXP SP3 (with Firewall completely off for testing) When I define a printer specifically in smb.conf, they show up as shared printers in WinXP. But when I follow the normal way (see below) to load all from cups they don't. I followed mainly the latest SAMBA-HOWTO (chapter 21-22) The only error I see in log.smbd when accessing the
