Printing problem
Hi. I've been running CentOS 4 since it was released (since 4.0). I
did a fresh install and have kept it updated using up2date and yum so at
present my system is running CentOS 4.2. I mostly use my system as a
super-user and so I can mostly do everything without worrying too much
about permissions. Not too long ago I created a "general" user account

Printing from apps as a regular user...
Hi. I mostly use my system as a super-user and so I can mostly do
everything without worrying too much about permissions. Not too long
ago I created a "general" user account which is automatically logged in
after a few seconds for others to have (limited) access to the system.
Mostly everything works (ie. CD/DVD writing, sound, floppy access,
etc.) But when it comes to printing, only

Clients can find printer when "browsing" but not otherwise
I had a working Samba installation on my home network. Then I replaced one
printer with another. The new printer is successfully installed on my RedHat
9.0 system on /dev/lp0. It is an Epson C82. From the RedHat system all is
well.
However, I am unable to print to this printer via Windows XP boxes on my
network. Samba is working to the extent that Windows can find these printers

Samba and printing=cups; printers disappear after a while
Hello there,
We're using a reasonably large network of linux boxes, about 6 of
them offering printing services through CUPS. This has worked remarkably
stably for the last months, but we've got one lasting problem with Samba
that someone may have a hint to offer.
We use an smbd on one of the linux boxes that offers the shared CUPS
printers to the windows clients on the network. Now

Please help printing from CUPS to XP shared printer via smb
Sorry if this is a stupid question but I tried reading, studying and
finding solution but am not making it alone :)
On my home lan I have a Linux (Debian sid) box (192.168.174.244) running
3.0.10 samba and cups 1.1.23.
My objective is to print from this box to the other home PC which is
running XP (192.168.174.242) and sharing an Epson R200 printer.

Problems with CUPS and a networked epson printer
I have an Epson Stylus Color 880, connected to our network via an
external ethernet printserver. I used to run lprng on the samba server
(which is a domain controller), and the Windows clients had one minor
problem accessing this printer via Samba (2.2.3a, then): Every time a
client wanted to print, the Epson status monitor on the client would
complain about communication problems with the

printing from xp
Hi,
I've installed Samba 2.2.7a on a Red Hat 9 machine. This machine is
also running VMware with Windows XP as the guest OS. The XP virtual
machine can access the Linux host's shared directories, but not the
printer. The printer is an Epson Stylus Color 860. It works fine in
the Linux host. In the XP guest, I can see the printer in the add
printer configuration wizard. But when

XP and NT printer driver conflicts
Hello,
I am running Windows XP and Windows NT workstations on a lan with a samba 2.2.4 server providing files and printers to these workstations.
I have the following printers shared by samba:
HP LaserJet 1200
Epson Stylus Color 3000
Epson Stylus Pro XL
HP DesignJet 755 CM
HP DesignJet 2500 CP
The problem I am having is that Windows XP and Windows NT are using different drivers for the same

lp & cups on samba
This is a hard one.
I can set up cups & samba fine to print ok on FreeBSD and to print from W2K
on BSD - ahh, but only with the windows printer driver for Epson - which
sucks - there is no way to clean heads, the color is horrible, print area
is limited, etc.
The major problem is that there does not seem to be any documentation that
explains clearly how the configuration works either for

CUPS and Okidata ML 395
Hi All,
Has anyone currently, or in the past, setup an Okidata ML 395 (or any of
Okidata's impact printers, for that matter) on a CentOS box? I'm having
a miserable time with the ML 395: I'm looking for some tips.
I have an AMD Opteron server running CentOS 4 (x86_64). CUPS is running
happily for two Canon imageRunner's (via BrightQ Pro from Codehost).
The Okidata ML 395 is

Samba Printing to Win98
I am trying to allow printing from my linux box to my win98 box, to which my
epson stylus printer is attached. It's just not happening...something tells me
I'm flirting with a world of pain.
I *can* print a file by going:
smbclient //rory/EPSON
translate
print /etc/group
but I cannot print from applications, nor can i use smbprint. I tried going:
cat /etc/passwd | sh -x smbprint

Cups Ink Levels
Hey all,
In this week's Open Source Highlights I read:
"Check ink level: If you have an Epson, Canon, HP, or Sony printer, you
can see its ink level with a simple application. Look for the "ink"
package in your distribution repositories."
I checked my package manager but I didn't find any "ink" package. Does
such a package exist for Centos? Is so, what

cann't get cups printrers visible to windows XP
I am having an awful time getting a cups printer on a linux system
visible to windows XP. I have the printer, a brother hl1440 laser,
working on Linux cups, named 1440. I then created another printer on it
called raw-1440 and specified raw driver so teh Windows XP driver would
be used. Here is my smb.conf entries:

Samba/CUPS printer queue troubleshooting guide (XP clients)?
We have a printing reliability problem with Samba printers/queues and
we are trying to figure out how to troubleshoot it more methodically.
Situation: We've been running Samba 3.x (always current/latest) for
over a year with primarily Windows 2000 clients. This summer we are
converting our 100 Win2K PCs to XP; this conversion is nearly
complete.
Our Samba printing is CUPS-based to HP
