Symlinks followed literally in Debian 3.0, not in Red Hat 7.3
Hi all,
I've encountered a problem in using Samba 3.0.4. I've got a Red Hat 7.3
box (johnboy) running as a domain controller, and we've got symlinks to
a bunch of NFS mounts on a different machine (pawalton) to give people
the necessary file access using only one SMB mount. For example, the
SMB share is under /smbfiles in the root directory of the Samba server.
Within /smbfiles,

Samba 3.0.8 on Solaris with AD group
I have the following configuration:
Solaris 9 (patch 112960-10 applied)
Samba 3.0.8 (configure --with-ads --with-pam --with-winbind)
MIT Kerberos 1.3.5 (configure --enable-dns --enable-dns-for-kdc
--enable-dns-for-realm --without-tcl)
I am using Samba to share files to our Windows users via a Samba share,
security = ads. All the shares work just fine.
Here is the relevant section of my

Cannot cancel print jobs.
We are running the samba server on RH9 and use win98
and 2000 clients. We ran into two problems up to now,
both related to printing. We have two win98 machines
with printers (in two parts of the building). We want
to have all the print jobs from other machines to go
through the server before they are printed on these
machines.
First, we cannot not force the Win2000 machine to send

RSpec and acts_as_attachment
Hey guys,
I''m getting a weird error when trying to test something like the
following. It''s a model that is using acts_as_attachment but the
weird thing is the equivalent Test::Unit case passes. Does anyone
have any ideas?
Best,

ssh-rand-helper probs
Hi all
Am i doing this right? Is this the right list to post to? If not, a
quick lesson in ettiquette for me would not hurt. As I am both just
starting to use newsgroups and SSH, I am not entirely familiar with the
processes. I have a question about ssh-rand-helper. First an outline: I
am currently using the SSH packages for Solaris 2.8 available at
sunfreeware.com. The environment is

Fwd: Re: Encrypt /decrypta file with ssh keys.
As per Alex's suggestion, attached is the proof of concept "sfile"
script. If there is anyone out there with great C skills who can
recreate this functionality "out of the box", I think there would be a
few happy campers (at least two, anyways).

Remote Command Execution using jarapac,jcifs.etc.
Hi,
I need to install windows services remotely from linux. Given that the
windows server is running with minimum credentials. On reading hte previous
mails, I found that it is possible using jarapac, midlc, jcifs etc.
So I started with jcifs. I am able to transfer a file(service) from linux to
windows using jcifs API. Now I want to start that service. First I tried
with installing midlc

error_messages_for not displaying validation errors
Hi all,
I''ve been searching the web and the list archives for help on this and I''ve
found some tips, but I''ve been racking my brain on this for hours.
I have a Model, View, and Controller that are handling the uploading of a
file to my server. I want to make sure that the description is set and that
a file is selected to be uploaded. I have set validates_presence_of

How to interpret the name of an object literally?
Hi,
I can't seem to figure out how to tell R to stop expanding an object. I
would like to use the literal name rather than the expanded value.
The issue occurs in a function I've been writing. The problematic part looks
like this:
# "fund" is a matrix of open, high, low, close, and volume prices
returns <- function(fund)
{
p_12ago = as.vector(fund[nrow(fund)-252,6])

Howto authenticate smartPhone via Active Directory
mj - thanks! That the first useful example I've received from any forum/list. I'm getting ready
to try my config (have to do so after hours), but I have some probably simple-minded questions:
Your example is not the complete dovecot-ldap.conf.ext file, right? Have you just given me
differences in your config from the "original"? You've kept the hosts, base, ldap_version,

How to extract function arguments literally
Dear all,
One of my friends asked me if it is possible to extract actual R
function arguments literally (precisely, as strings). The reason is
simple. He feels sometimes awkward to attach quotation marks :-). What
he actually wants is to pass R command arguments to XLisp subroutines
(He has been an enthusiastic XLisp user for a long time and still tends
to use R as a wrapper to XLisp). Is it

rsync 3.0.9 hangs when syncing from NFSv3 share - possible to retry after timeout?
Hello,
I'm using rsync 3.0.9 to backup several NFS shares from a fileserver, mounted over NFSv3, to a local RAID on a backup server. Both servers are running Ubuntu 12.04 server LTS. The fileserver's filesystem is ext4. The NFS shares are mounted on the backup server as follows:
fileserver:/mnt/storage/share1 /mnt/share1 type nfs (ro,tcp,bg,soft,intr,addr=192.168.1.1)

flash[:notice] followed by render
Hi,
Sometimes I see action code like
def my_action
flash[:notice] = "Flash notice"
render
end
It is even in DHH''s new World of Resources slide show page 22. With
this use of flash before render, the user will see the flash for the
next two visible displays. Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Peter

Symbolic Links not Followed Outside Partition?
Ok, I''ve got a repository of configuration files I use for my Linux
environment and would like to leverage this with Puppet (instead of
having dupes in my /module/*/files folder).
So, I''ve put symbolic links in the files folder pointing to the actual
config file. I''m receiving a "Failed to retrieve current state of

[LLVMdev] Query on Global analysis followed by Global transformation
We are trying to implement data layout optimizations in LLVM. This requires
us to do a global analysis followed by global transformations. What is the
best way to structure the pass(es) in such a scenario?

Brief silence followed by DTMF tone on T1 line
Every once in a while calls get interrupted with a brief silence
followed by a DTMF tone on our T1 lines. We are using a TE411P card. It
does not happen on SIP connections, just the T1. Has anyone experienced
this or know a possible cause?
Thanks,

Firefox and Thunderbird freeze/crash followed by "nfs4_reclaim_open_state: Lock reclaim failed!" syslog messages
I was afraid someone would say that :-). I am currently at
3.10.0-862.3.2 and downgrading to a 3.10.0-6xx kernel breaks some of the
other packages.
Is the mentioned bug documented somewhere?
Cheers
