smbclient connect problem
I've tried everything I can think of, but still cannot
connect to a Windows 2000 share using smbclient. I
know the shared directory is set up OK because I can
get to it with another Windows box. My smbclient
command line should be OK because the same syntax
works on another Linux box at work (running a slightly
older version of smbclient) to a similarly setup
Windows box. This is what I get

net rpc query
Hi.
I'm using samba-3.0.24 on a gentoo box. The samba machine is
configured as a domain member server within a MS Windows 2003 active
directory. It has been successfully joined to the domain and
everything works, shares, kerberos, ldap.
However, I cannot get nested groups to work, or more precisely, I
cannot add a local group using net rpc. Here is what I am doing:
gentoo ~ # net rpc

NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
Hi,
I've installed Fedora C1 with Samba 3.0.2 and openldap 2.1.22. I've
followed the example in the Samba-3 by example guide to use my server as a
PDC. I'm able to connect to this server with all my users but I'm unable
to use "Administrator" to log. Maybe it's normal but I doubt it. Here's
the log I got for smbclient:
[root@fs01 sbin]# smbclient -L

Need help configuring Samba3/LDAP PDC
Hello all,
I'm following along in chapter 6 of John Terpstra's "Samba 3 By Example"
and I've got everything working great up until the point where I join
the machine to the new domain (step 17 on page 155). The command *net
rpc join -U Administrator* fails with the errors below.
palpatine:/var/lib/samba/sbin # net -d 4 rpc join -U Administrator

Problem with tar commands in smbclient 3.0.23c
Since upgrading from CentOS 4.3 to CentOS 5 the smbclient tar commands
seem to be broken. The version on 4.3 was 3.0.10 I believe, while on 5
it is 3.0.23c-2.
Here's what happens.
Running the command:
$ /usr/bin/smbclient \\\\host.domain.com\\backup -A /tmp/ntcredentials
works fine. It connects no problem.
But:
$ /usr/bin/smbclient \\\\host.domain.com\\backup -A /tmp/ntcredentials

Can't join my domain
Guys and dolls,
Greetings, I hope you all are in good health, great spirits and your glasses
never empty.
I have a samba, openldap question.
I am trying to setup a FC-4 box to be a PDC for a small network of about 150
users. I was following the HOWTO on the SAMBA site. Everything seems to be
fine however I cannot join the domain. I get the error "User name could not

Can not connect to share "NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME"
I have Suse 9.1 + Samba 3.0.9 + winbind joined to a Windows
2000 AD domain "MyCompany". Yesterday for some unknown
reason (appears to be Win2K issue) connections to Samba and
the ability to browse the domain "MyCompany" from Win2K/XP
workstations failed but connections to the public share
offered by the Win2K server were OK. Also, all Win98
workstations and were unable to

rpc command function failed! (NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED) trying to grant privileges - 3.0.23a
Greetings,
I am in the process of testing Samba 3.0.23a with our own passdb
plugin. As part of mytesting I am trying to join the domin so here are
the steps I take...
1 - get local sid
/usr/local/samba/bin/net getlocalsid
SID for domain JAZZY is: S-1-5-21-1016995387-3159270912-1426853295
2 - create group mappings

Can't connect from Windows
I am setting up my first 3.0.1 installation. I am using Slackware 9.1, I am
trying to connect to a Windows 2000 Server. I do not need active directory
support (as far as I know). The server's function is a file server. So
Users need seamless authentication... of course. I do not have LDAP
installed. It's a plain server besides the 3ware RAID.
I compiled and installed samba 3.0.1,

Samba Errors with 3.0.21b on AIX -- please help
I have been trying for 3 weeks to get 3.0.21b to work on AIX 5.2. I am
currently running 3.0.4, which has no problems. I am getting very
frustrated, and am about to give up entirely on Samba.
Here are some of the errors I am getting:

samba>=3.0.4 - no more smbpasswd ? no more local auth whenjoined to domain ?
how about redirecting the smbpasswd file to the older version (assuming you
have one) using smbpasswd file = /file/path/smbpasswd , I replaced my copy
of smbpasswd for 3.09 with a 2.216 and the smbpasswd command stopped
working, (no new entry added to the smbpasswd file), but when i used that it
worked again

Unable to set ACLs with Samba 3.0.11, near publication deadline
Hello, Jeremy and Jerry,
I met both of you at LinuxWorld in Boston, where I learned tons and tons
of great stuff from your presentations.
I'm writing on deadline for publication and would really, really, really
like to show off Samba's ability to map NT ACLs to POSIX ACLs. But right
now, I can't make them work. I've spent some time on the Samba list
trying to make this work, but

Authentication failure when accessing Samba server in a NT domain
Hello Samba Gurus,
I have configured my Samba install to be a domain member of a NT4-Style domain. The version of samba used is 3.0.13. The domain joining process worked fine (net rpc join). An excerpt of smb.conf is provided at the end for reference.
The problem is that when users access this server, they are challenged for the username password. I was of the impression that this process would

samba3 and kerberos authentication of users
Hi all,
this is probably VFAQ, but I never found a working solution. I have a
standalone samba server running samba ver. 3. In the network, we have
heimdal kerberos used to authenticate users for pop3,imap,web-based
applications etc. Now I would like to make the samba communicating with
kerberos kdc so there will no longer be users in smbpasswd with separate
passwords outside of kerberos.

Samba & Active Directory Trust
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello All,
I'm having an issue creating a two-way trust relationship between my
Samba Domain and a Windows 2003 Active Directory Domain. Here is a
summary of my environment:
Samba 3.0.14a
OpenLDAP 2.0.23-7
Debian Woody
Active Directory 2003 (running in mixed mode)
Windows 2003
The trust works fine from AD -> Samba:
