'credentials' file doesn't work - also observed by others
Background: Linux, Debian (Sarge). I want to auto-mount an smbfs at
boot. smbmount version is 3.0.7-Debian.
With the following in my fstab, I can do the mount as root, but have to
provide a password (hence either I can't boot unattended, or can't mount
it during boot):
//<server>/<share> /mnt/point smbfs

winbind flaky authentication..
I've got weird things happening with winbind authentication - sometimes
it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes it works for one username, and not for the other, sometimes it
works for both, sometimes neither...
I'm a departmental admin trying to authenticate against our central
windows domain - so I've no control of the windows side. The client
machine is a fresh redhat

Share access problem
Hi Rowland,
I tried that but it didn't work.
I can list all users using wbinfo -u but it didn't work if I do getent passwd <samaccountname>.
Do you have any clues ?
Thanks.
Sébastien

tapply problem
Hello everybody.
I have a question that has stumped me and the usual "apply" tricks
don't seem to work. I run a course where each student's performance
is marked by one or more assessors.
I have a data frame containing students' names, assessors' names and
their marks, arranged as follows:
ID student assessor Q1A Q1B Q1C Q2A Q2B Q3

smbmount and credentials file
I have a small LAN:
SuSE 7.2 with Samba 3.0 and a W2K box.
What I can do:
I can create shares from the W2K box that make files from the Linux box
visible. I can also manually mount (using % smbmount ... ) from the
command line as root. Here is where I run into problems. The only way I
can mount a partition via smbmount is if I use the username=user%passwd
option. If I attempt to setup a .smbpw

Can't see shares, and also smbmount works but mount -t cifs doesn't
Hi
(this is most likely a newbie question).
A couple of problems. I have a linux guest (puppy) running on vmplayer on a friend's machine, which runs WinXP home. I have folder sharing enabled on the host for a few different folders. I am trying to mount the winxp host shared folders onto the linux guest.
First problem is that I can't seem to see the shares. smbtree only lists the

SMBMOUNT: Problems with 866 codepage and others
Hello urban,
While trying samba we've found some errors.
Windows machine has 866 code page (we are from Russia), and Linux -
1251.
smbclient works fine and show all the coding as it should.
1. smbmount checks argc, argv too late to set debug level at a proper
time.
2. Some parameters are ignored despite --help option and man pages.
They include codepage and iocharset options.

Samba + LDAP + displayName attribute
Hi All,
I have a rather strange, if not critical, issue with samba as a NT4
domain controller.
We have samba [version 3.0.24] set up as a PDC using LDAP as a
backend. Each account was created using the IDEALX scripts, has a
displayName set to a users full name, say Joe Bloggs. The actual UID
of the account is different, say bloggsjoe.
When signing into Window XP, everything works fine.

Debian add user etc scripts & usrmgr.exe
Hi All,
I have just joined this list, and this is my first post - so please bear
with me.
I am running debian testing (sarge) with a 2.4.23-1-686 kernel, and a self
compiled samba-3.0.0final (--with-quotas), deployed from self built *.debs.
It is running as a PDC (smb.conf at bottom of post), and I have successfully
mapped "Domain Users" to unixgroup users, "Domain Admins"

mount shares with path
I need to mount a share I don't have direct access to only to one subdirectory.
I have no problems mounting other shares on the same windows server with
the same permissions.
I can mount the volume through gnome "Connect to Server...", but I need it
on the filesystem.
What is working:
smbmount //server1/share1 /mnt -o -fstype=cifs -noperm,credentials=/etc/auto.smb.server1

Adding/Removing Headers with Sendmail
Hi,
I posted this query a few weeks ago but never received a response. I'm
guessing that I didn't put things right, so here is another go.
The company that I work for currently has email addresses in the format
of:-
firstname.surname.ext at example.com
Which we use for various marketing campaigns (therefore the .ext bit is
variable).
Currently we have this setup as distribution

lhype progress...
Hi all,
Some of you know I've been working on a trivial in-kernel hypervisor to
demonstrate paravirt_ops. The good news is that it works! (And not
just for me!) The bad news is that I haven't written any documentation
and now I'm going to be offline (moving to a farm) for several weeks.
Nonetheless, if you're the kind of person who wants to poke around with
hypervisors, no

Trouble with the results of a dynamically generated find() method
Hi all,
So I have two tables:
- apps (short for applicants)
has_and_belongs_to_many :locations
- locations
has_and_belongs_to_many :apps
In my system, a user searches for applicants by the locations to which
they are associated, by using a dropdown menu that includes the names
of locations (and sends to the method that returns the results the id
of the selected location).
So, in the
