running debian 3.1 "sarge" ppc and samba 3.08 I want to have my win98se computer users to have their shares automatically mapped. 1. I have read that I would use a netlogin directory and put scripts in there? 2. Does anyone know if samba has to be set up a special way ADS, wins, etc... to use the netlogin directory and it's scripts? "this server is the only smb server

protocol question
I'm trying to understand odd behavior in my LAN. I'm running Samba 2.2.5 and trying to run it as a PDC. I have 1-2 win98 clients, 1 XPSP1 client, and 1 Win2kSP3 client. I've managed to add the XP and 2K machines to the domain successfully, but still haven't finished configuring logins to work correctly -- something about my user not having permission to write to

W2K problems
Hi, I am in dire need of some help. I have no problems connecting to shares with my W95/98 clients, but big problems with W2K. The same username / password is used on both the PC and SAMBA (and NIS - I am using Soalris 2.7 for my SAMBA server). When I try to connect to a share from the W2K client, I get the message "Access Denied". I have looked set nmbd / smbd to run at debug level 9

SMB gurus: please help - I am desperate.
I apologize up front for re-posting this, but I need to find a solution to this problem. I have been having hard time to believe that there isn't one person among the SMB gurus that doesn't know how a W2K client connects to an SMB server. So, if you happen to know even the slightest hint to this baffling problem, I would be forever grateful. OK. Here goes (original subject line was:

Keeping local Profiles in WinNT and W2K
Yesterday I moved my LAN domain from a W2K server to Samba and I have problems logging on to my WinNT 4 machine using local profiles. My boss's computer is a freshly installed W2K and it had no problem at all with the change. My computer is a WinNT4 SP 6 and when I tried to log on with my user it said it couldnt find the profile and logged me off immediately. I used to have a roaming

Domain logins
Hi all. I recently (like, today :) posted a message about the best way to manage two samba servers and ten or so Windows NT 4.0 and 3.51 Workstation machines. I'm not sure if my question was clear, and I've also gathered more information about what exactly I want to do. These are all 3.51 and 4.0 workstation machines; there is no NT server involved. All workstations and two samba

Samba/LDAP/RID
Hi all, is it possible for Samba 2.2.5 to use the RIDs out of LDAP instead calculating them? I am trying to migrate a W2K workstation from a W2K PDC to a Samba 2.2.5 PDC without re-joining the Domain. I have given the Domain SID, the W2K PDC netbios name and the Domain name to the Samba PDC. Then I have created the account for the W2K workstation in the LDAP-directory with the password and the

YASP (Yet Another Samba Problem)
When I attmept to mount a PC (W2K) share via my fstab, I get the following error message on the mount: "Unknown parameter encountered 'file'" Truth be told , samba is becoming more and more frustrating. The only thing I have been able to successfully do is to make visible my NFS mount point across my file server to my W2K machine. I am running SuSE 9.1, Samba 3.02a Enclosed is

Migrating W2K Workstation to Samba Domain
I am replacing a W2K AD server with a Samba server. The server has a single W2K Workstation client, in a public area and used by a dozen or so different users. When I join the workstation to the Samba domain, it complains that it cannot load a roaming profile (in the W2K AD domain, it used local profiles), and it does not create a new local profile, instead using a temporary profile. Obviously

Trouble with windows mounts after reboot of windows server
Hi all! Am I the only one with this problem? I doubt it... The problem is that I have a couple of shares of a W2K server mounted with Samba on my (Gentoo) Linux. This works fine, until the W2K server gets rebooted. After that the shares are just timing out, and they are impossible to unmount/remount... :-/ How do I prevent/fix this problem? Regards, Evert

SMB/NMBD configuration troubles.
Folks, I am stumped! I have followed every tech tip I could find and I am still unable to complete my SMB installation. Specifically, I fail Test 4 and Tests 9 and 10. I believe the problem has something to do with the NMBD configuration. Below are the parameters of our system. Any help is greatly appreciated. Changing AD pasword
Running Samba3.0.2a in linux (Gentoo) security = ads Users are logging in fine (XP and W2K), using samba for file sharing and printing. We have (by corporate decree) a fairly short password life. When the password is about to expire the user is prompted to change it during their windows logon. I have seen mention of synchronizing the password with unix but no mention of pushing it back to the AD

Hi Folks, I have a RH9 machine running Samba 3.0.0 (Had the same situation when running 2.2.8) and I am not being able to make my W2K SP4 clients or XP join the PDC. login scripts not being run at session startup
List, I have a weird problem on a 3.0.20 PDC. My users can log on correctly (user credentials is in LDAP) to the domain but the login.bat file is not always run. For some people, it is always run. For other people, it is never run. For a final group, sometimes it runs, sometimes it doesn't. There aren't any real differences in the LDAP entry for the account. The relevant line in

Konica Printer: Scan to File (Samba SMB share) fails
I am trying to let a Konica-Minolta Copy-Scanner-Printer store scanned stuff to a file. It works at once, if I let it send the file to a SMB share provided by a W2K workstation that is part of a (Samba) domain. It doesn't work, if I want it to store the messages on a share provided by the Samba server. So far I have verified that the user the scanner runs under is allowed to mount the share
