joining v2x member to v3x pdc
Hello NG, I want to add a samba v2.2.12 system as a member server to my domain managed by a samba v3.0.3 pdc. Is this possible? It's not as easy as joining a samba >v3.0.x system. My problem is, that I can't update the system to v3 right now. The users are all stored in a ldap-directory which I'm able to access onto the system using the 'id'-cmd. The system has also

Newbie:Family Tree Maker 2009 will not execute-Ubuntu Hardy
I'm new to linux so be patient. I'm running Ubuntu Hardy and have Wine 1.1.5 installed. After installing Family Tree Maker 2009 successfully, it will not execute. The screen comes up like it is going to start and says the database needs to be compacted and then the screen fades away. I decided to run FTM 2009 from the terminal and see what is happening. Obviously a lot of things.

CentOS 6.0 Heartbeat missing logd??
Hello list, Working on migrating my existing High-Availability setups from CentOS 5.3 to 6.0, both x86_64. I generally setup a fairly simple 2 node active/passive cluster using DRBD , Heartbeat, and Pacemaker. Use these clusters to run our proprietary Medical software plus a few key services ( openvpn , Digi PortServer Daemon, etc.). I had a procedure in place for doing all of this under 5.3

Hi there, I'm running Redhat Linux V8.0 using ext3 file system and I'm wondering what the maximum file size allowed is? I've got some potentially humunguous logfiles I need to store that could likely be around 4-8GB per day and just want to make sure I don't run into problems. TIA! Kevin Cavanagh

Samba closing printer prematurely?
Greetings Samba Users, I have a strange issue. Adobe Reader can't print to a Samba printer. It would be funny except it is happening to me.... Adobe Reader can't print PDF files to a true Adobe PS3 printer but GhostView can print PDF files without any problems. The printer in question is a Ricoh Aficio AP4510. I tried Samba v3.0.11 and v3.0.20 and I get the same result, no printer

XP Pro and offline files
All: Not sure if this is an XP Pro issue or a samba issue. I am running v3.0.3 of the samba server acting as a Domain controller and file server. The problem that I run into is that every once in a while, while connected to the network the network shares go offline. I am running XP Pro SP2 and I am not really sure where to start to troubleshoot this. TIA Ron

Disappearing Shares?
I am new to Linux and running SuSE V8.0 with KDE desktop and Samba 2.2.7 on a small bnetwor5k which also has a Windows NT PC and a notebook. On the Linux PC's I have used LinNeighborhood to mount the various shares and can readily view files on the Linux PC's, or on the windoze machines. I have had a number of occasions where I have had to power down my main Linux PC, and far more

Query with special characters crashes under Windows XP
Hi, Index queries with special characters (e.g. German Umlauts but also other European ones) make the Ruby process run for quite a long time and crash finally. I''m using Rails on Windows XP with Ferret 0.11.4_mswin_32. I could isolate the problem in the following simple controller action (so there''s no web browser form field involved): def test index = Ferret::I.new index

Matching two redhat servers
Help! I've got two new servers. I installed redhat v7.3 on one myself, and have got it to run samba successfully and connect to a W95 PC. The other was bought pre-installed with the same linux version, and I cannot get the W95 box to get beyond "No domain server was available...". As far as I see, \etc\samba\smb.conf files are identical, as are the \etc\hosts files. I'm using

Troubleshooting Samba - (2)
I am running SuSE V8.0, and Samba 2.2.7a on a small network server. I have been having problems relating to sorting out printing from an NT4 workstation to a laser printer on the Samba server. I have a Samba (v3.0.11 on linux 2.4.21) server that is connected to the internet and has all smb and netbios ports firewalled. Access is provided via a OpenVPN tunnel interface with all traffic going through there. Clients get a /30 address with a route to the server. I have enabled WINS and the

Memory leak in R v1.5.1?
Hi, I am trying to minimize a rather complex function of 5 parameters with gafit and nlm. Besides some problems with both optimization algorithms (with respect to consistantly generating similar results), I tried to run this optimization about a hundred times for yet two other parameters. Unfortunately, as the log below shows, during that batch process R starts to eat up all my RAM,
