RE: 1st thought: was: help (Still) w2k pro no longer trusted by 2.2.3 pdc
Thanks for the suggestions Trevor. Reformatting in case someone else has problem too: MY COMMENTS are in CAPS to make easier to understand.
.*(U said) ..(snips...)...
a) I (had) same problem, if I remember correctly,
my trusted accounts had names too long (>14 characters) (1)
and there was a CAPS issue, make sure all is correct,
even if windows forces caps when you're using lowercase.

W2K/2.2 (CVS)/PDC problem.
Hiya. I'm trying to get a 2.2 PDC working, and am hitting a brick wall.
I've tried to make sure I'm in compliance with the 2.2 HOWTO and FAQ, but
it doesn't seem to be helping.
- I've added both root and my pc's "hostname" to smbpasswd, and the
hostname itself to the passwd file, as per the HOWTO.
- I swiped the smb.conf and /etc/rc.d/init.d/samba files from

I ran into various problems and could solve most of them during the past two
weeks (hooray!). Most of the problems were related to congestions of user

W2K can't join 3.0.7 domain
I've got an unpatched W2K Pro system and I'm trying to join it to the 3.0.7
domain. I put in root and root's password for the domain administrator. The
root user's uid is 0 and root is in Domain Users and works for logging into
other workstations in the domain.
W2K reports "User not found" when I try to join the domain. However, the
machine account is indeed

Cannot receive files from server 3.0.7 to W2K
Hello,
My problem is the following :
I have a Debian (testing distribution) on which I used to have Samba
server v3.0.2a
it worked perfectly with my other machine which is running Windows 2000.
I recently made a global packages update on my Debian machine, which
apparently changed the Samba server to 3.0.7
Since then, I have been absolutely unable to retrieve files from the
debian server to the

Interesting logging issue with W2k and smb 2.2.2
We're running Samba 2.2.2 on a Solaris 8 (Sparc) machine. It's not
configured as a PDC or BDC, just sharing out home file spaces and
printing access.
I've searched the archives and can't find anything in the list archives
or the bug reports that *quite* matches my "problem". I can't tell if
this is an issue with Samba 2.2.2 which may be fixed in 2.2.5 or if this

user on W2K SP2 SERVER cannot auth on samba PDC (but W2K WS yes)
Client = W2K OS Server SP2 but not server for anything except a shared
software. (I didn't run dcpromo)
I've just built a brand new domain with samba as PDC.
I did not have any problem with W98, NT WS, NT Server, 2K WS and XP WS.
All of these joined the domain successfully and users are happy.
But, a user in the company runs a W2K SP2 os SERVER as workstation.

Samba 2.2.7a PDC with W2K SP3 clients - can't stay in domain
I've searched through the mailing lists and seen a few similar problems, but
those fixes didn't fix me.

I get the error:
The system cannot log you on to this domain because the system's compuer
account in its primary domain is missing or the password on that account is

Home drives not being mounted. Samba 3.0.7 vs W2k TS
At a number of sites we are using Windows 2000 Server SP4 (APPSERVER) as a
Terminal Server and a PDC. All user areas are stored on a NetBSD 1.6.2
server with Samba 3.0.7 using security = domain and a named password
server. We've joined the domain from the Samba box (domain DOMAINNAME).
In general everything works fine, but when a number of clients log on at
around the same time (say 25 users

Samba 3.0.7+Winbind+Cups 1.1.20: Printing from w2k OK, but cannot delete print jobs
Dear community,
I'am using samba as print server for w2k clients on a debian system:
samba 3.0.7-2
winbind 3.0.7-2
cupsys 1.1.20final+rc
It is possible on the w2k-machines to install printer drivers from samba and to
print via samba to the cups server. Within the cups server all jobs have the
correct username. If I try to delete pending print jobs from w2k

Problems with samba shares locking in w2k ADS environment.
Greetings,
I have a Gentoo Linux machine running samba 3.0.7-r2
It's a member of a win2k ADS domain...all that seems to be working fine.
Problem:
When I share a directory on the Samba machine ADS members can see it,
browse it, and even create directories and small text files. However,
if I try to drop anything large or binary, it lock up the win2k client
for about 2 minutes then resets.

Cant get authenticated readwrite and guest readonly configured properly
Hi, I've spent the past 4 and a half hours trying to figure out how to
configure Samba the way I want, and I'm starting to wonder if what I
want to do is impossible. I've read the man page for smb.conf trying to
figure out what magic combination of options will work, and have scoured
as much Samba documentation as I can find looking for the right recipe,
but I'm having no luck.
