Question about Samba 3.0.10 + OpenLDAP 2.1.29
Hi,
This may be a silly question. I've got OpenLDAP 2.1.29 up and running on
FC2, I imported passwd, group and hosts from NIS to LDAP server and we
can authenticate with LDAP instead of NIS.
We also have a Samba PDC running on another Linux box (FC2), it use
smbpasswd as passwd db. So I am going to replace it with LDAP passwd db.
I tried to configure Samba to use LDAP. but it didn't

samba failed to authenticate to openLDAP
Hi,
I tried to let Samba authenticate against LDAP but could not figure out
how to build the LDAP tree for Samba.
Fedora core 2
Samba 3.0.10
OpenLDAP 2.1.29
I used the migration tool bundled with OpenLDAP and successfully
imported passwd, group and hosts from NIS into LDAP. I can authenticate
from any of linux client against LDAP server. My LDAP DIT is as follows:

account migartion from NIS and Smbpasswd to LDAP
Hi,
I've tried "smbldap-migrate-unix-accounts" to migrate NIS account into
LDAP. It is a great tool. There is no problem if he/she authenticate
from Linux machine with his old NIS account. But I found that I need to
run smbldap-passwd to give a new passwd so that he/she can authenticate
from windows machine. Does anyone has a better solution about it?
Thanks a lot. I really

I happened to delete /etc/samba/secrets.tdb. Now I can not get DOMAIN
SID by run:

Any idea how to recover it? Do I need to reinstall the whole Samba suite?

Nis homedirs
Greetings,
I'm using 2.0.0-alpha13 on Solaris (compiling with gcc 2.8.1 on Solaris
2.5, running on 2.5, 2.5.1, and 2.6). I see this in the smb.conf.5
man page:
nis homedir (G)
Get the home share server from a NIS (or YP) map. For unix
systems that use an automounter, the user's home directory
will often be mounted on a workstation on demand from a

Why need to add a machine account to /etc/passwd first with Samba+LDAP
Hi,
I am using Samba 3.0.10 PDC with LDAP as password DB. Before we use
smbpasswd as passwd DB and every time I need to add a machine account
into /etc/passwd so that the mahcine can join the domain. My
understanding for LDAP is, this step is not needed any more since we
will put all machine account into "ou=Computers". But I am proved to be
wrong.
Is this the way Samba works? I

"My Documents" doesn't sync unless logged off
"My Documents" folder doesn't sync with the server unless users log off from the machine and log back in. Is there a way to sync the "My Documents" folder during the session?
Thank you.

Problem with Let's Encrypt Certificate
Hey.
Thanks again for your help. I took the "dovecot -n" while the StartSSL
Certificate was active, so the chain.pem was correct.
Finally I found the issue! :-) But I still have no idea why the problem
happens with Thunderbird.
I used dehydrated to fetch the certificates from Let's Encrypt and as I
said, it works for most clients pretty well. (Tried: Mulberry, Claws

Problem with Let's Encrypt Certificate
Usually with LE, the filename is fullchain.pem, not chain.pem.
Can you please doublecheck this?
Also, try
openssl s_client -connect hostname:143 -starttls imap

nis homedir
I would be grateful if anybody could supply some more information on the
'nis homedir' option (Samba 1.9.17a4). We have home directories spread
over several Samba hosts. Although they can be accessed via 'amd' from
any other server it would be a great benefit to be able to guarantee
that all connections were made directly to the correct server. The man
page looks promising but I

Hello,
I'm using SuSE 9.1 on a client system that is part of a NT4 domain.
After installing the original samba and smaba-winbind (3.0.2a) packets
from the SuSE discs I could use pam_winbind to authenticate against the
NT PDC. However, the network browse functionality in kde's konqueror did
not work.
I used the SuSE online update function to

Problem with Let's Encrypt Certificate
Hello Folks,
my StartCom SSL-Certificate expires soon and so I wanted to switch to
Let's Encrypt Certificates instead. Unfortunatelly Thunderbird seems not
to like it, although all -tested- other Clients work without any problems.
When I connect with Thunderbird it sends an "Encrypted Alert" directly
after the TLS handshake although Dovecot wants to continue the session.

"Wbinfo -u" get user account sucessfully but "getent passwd" fails
Hi everybody,
I got a problem here with my Samba ADS member server. It functions as a
file server and works for a long time. A few weeks ago our Active
Directory domain controller failed due to power outage. We fixed it and
now an employee reports that he could not use the samba file server any
more. I restarted samba service and did the following testing:

lpSolve constraints don't seem to have an effect
Dear R users,
I would like to optimize a linear approximation of a quadratic function
using lpSolve. My code runs without any error or warning message but the
constraints that I set don't seem to work properly.
Nevertheless, I am certain that my code is somewhere wrong.
I would like to solve the following problem:

2x^2 + 3y^2 <= 6

ctrl-c doesn''t work in domU consoles
Hey,
I''ve installed Xen 3.0 on a freshly installed Debian Sarge. dom0 is
working nicely (kernel 2.6.12.6-xen0). Then I created a domU, again with
Debian Sarge, booting Xen''s vmlinuz-2.6.12-xenU. Unfortunately ctrl-c
does not work in the domU''s console, neither if I create the domU
with "xm create -c ..." nor if I attach to it later. It doesn''t matter
