How can I change the localSID for a SAMBA Server?
I am trying to change the localSID for a SAMBA server, however I am unable to. I have tried the command "net setlocalsid" to no avail. To troubleshoot I have also stopped the smbd and nmbd services, but this did not help. Any help would be great! root at TheWiggle:~# net getlocalsid SID for domain THEWIGGLE is: S-1-5-21-748580849-194208185-3916830000 root at TheWiggle:~# net

Domain SID issue
Hello I have a client who historical had a machinename with an underscore in it : samba_machine I had to get rid of the underscore names and changed the name to samba-machine. At the same time I upgraded to samba-3.0.11 to get a printer queue problem resolved. Now it seems the Domain SID has changed, so I changed the new SID back to the old one with net setlocalsid, because on all machines I had

Re: samba Digest, Vol 55, Issue 18
What's wrong with WARLOCK? Just kidding. If you don't like it, change it, but do expect problems. It's not something you will find a recipee for in a How-to book. The SETLOCALSID changes only the LOCAL SID, not the GLOBAL SID, for which we would probably need SETGLOBALSID. When I faced the same problem, I did something really wrong but it worked. I copy-pasted the LOCAL SID to the

Changing domain name
Hi, For reasons best known to the IT admin before myself, we currently have a domain name of WARLOCK. I want to change this. We have about 15 WinXP Pro client machines on the domain as well as a few linux domain clients. A bit of reading shows that it should be as simple as doing a net getlocalsid, making the change, followed by a net setlocalsid. I started doing this when I noticed something

"net setlocalsid" question
Hi, I'm a tad confused about something. I've got a production instance of Samba running. I am trying to get a test version running on the same box, with the same SID. Without the test server running, I used "net setlocalSID <oldsid>" (the net binary is the one for the new server). Then when I issued 'net getlocalsid' it returned it. I thought I was fine.

Re: Moving samba PDC to new machine (unable to change domain SID)
So, I followed these directions and got errors in log.nmbd regarding "domain_master_node_status_fail". There were still entries for the old server's ip address in connections.tdb, gencache.tdb, locking.tdb and sessionid.tdb, so I stopped samba, deleted them and restarted. All was well. I then changed the SID using "net setlocalsid

Understanding Documentation about BDC in HowTo Collection
hi list&john, i read in the documention about BDCs: The domain SID has to be the same on the PDC and the BDC. In Samba versions pre-2.2.5, the domain SID was stored in the file |private/MACHINE.SID|. For all versions of Samba released since 2.2.5 the domain SID is stored in the file |private/secrets.tdb|. This file is unique to each server and cannot be copied from a PDC to a BDC; the BDC

Hi all, I am migrating a Samba 3 domain from an ageing server to a new server. Samba & SIDs
Hi all, I need help to clear a bit of confusion regarding SIDs on Samba servers. I had my PDC collapse on Thursday which wasn't too much of a problem as I had everything backed up but I'm now in the position that I have a mismatched Domain SID. If I run net getlocalsid I get the sid for the server (called smb0) and net get local sid <domain> returns the sid for the Domain. I

PDC from 2 to 3, SID headaches

And I really need help. :-/ I could not find a detailed guide, so after having a look at the migration chapter of the official howto, I adapted my smb.conf keeping the same host and domain
