Custom DomU kernel
Hi Xen list, I had Xen 3.0.2 (from the xensource.com binary packages) running on an Ubuntu 6.06 (with a 2.6 kernel). I made an image of a Redhat Advanced Server 3 that I boot fine; my problem is that the RHAS DomU is booting on the Dom0 2.6 kernel where I would like it to boot on the 2.4 kernel shipped with RHAS3. I understand I need to build a custom 2.4 kernel patched with Xen, but how do I do

High load since passing from rhas3 to centos4.8
We are migrating HP servers from RHAS3 to centos 4.8. Since, the load average is reaching really high values. Under usage we see loads of 15-20 instead of the 0.5-1.5 we were used to. I searched a lot for information on such an issue. Iostat, vmstat, top, ps. But I don't get significant hint. Cpu usage remains low, IO wait remains low, no disks are lagging, no swap usage. Are there some tool

Means "acclaim" in both Norwegian languages (there are new official rules out today for writing both of the 2 Indo-European Norwegian languages). What made me write this acclaim is the number of postings I've seen about Samba's instability - i.e. run-away processes, profiles going wrong, ACL problems and more. My (high school) site with around 80 w2k workstations, of which

OT Windows policy question
List, Thanks tremendously to JC and JHT for guiding (nay, kicking) me toward getting ACLs to work on RHAS3. Reading the RH sysadmin guide about ACLs and searching elsewhere, as well as thinking for myself, were also a pre. Now for something completely different: High school in Amsterdam Netherlands: - RHAS3 - Samba 3.0.11 RPC, not ADS (no way we're upgrading while the bug reports keep

coreutils-4.5.3-28 causing duplication?
Here's a bit of a strange one. I hunted through the ocfs-users archives, but didn't see any mention of this, so here goes... Using coreutils 4.5.3-27 on RHAS 3, the utilities perform as expected against non-OCFS volumes: $ rpm -q coreutils coreutils-4.5.3-27 # cat a 3 line test file. Works as expected $ cat /var/tmp/file line1 line2 line3 # copy that file. Works as expected $ cp

Unable to delete a file...
Hello all, I'm using OCFS version 1.0.15-PROD5 on RHAS3 Update 4. My RMAN script for delete obsolete fails. Debugging problem I've found that is not able to remove a file. Seems that this file is in use and any operation is not possible. Reading metalink I've found some docs about problem with cp/mv/dd/tar on files under OCFS and suggestion is always to use option --o_direct. In my

Availability of OCFS 1.0.14 for RHAS 2.1 Itanium64
Do you have a timeline when the OCFS 1.0.14-1 will be available on RHAS 2.1 Itanium 64 platform? Or is there going to be one? We notice that OCFS 1.0.14-1 has been available for RHAS 2.1 32 bit for quite a while. Thanks. Well, I've downloaded the kernel source code from http://mirror.dulug.duke.edu/pub/redhat/linux/updates/enterprise/2.1AS/en/os /SRPMS/kernel-2.4.18-e.40.src.rpm and compiled it for x86 (i686). Is this kernel compatible with ocfs ?? __________________________________________ Mauro Staretz - MI Montreal Inform?tica Ltda Microsoft MCSE+I / MCDBA / MCP - Oracle OCP Tel: 55-21-2291-6116 R.2104

Migrate from RHAS 4 to CentOS 4.2
I have a SGI Altix 350 (ia64) that came with RHAS 4, but without any paid support. I would like to migrate the server over to CentOS. Here is what I've pieced together from some older posts by Johnny, can someone confirm this should work? I know this is somewhat covered in the FAQ, although both entries refer to FC or WBEL, which already have built-in yum support. Install the

Samba 3.0.11 on Red Hat RHAS3
To answer my own question of a week or so ago, as to whether RHAS3 users had got 3.0.11 to compile and execute (I had a plethora of errors): The Red Hat 3.0.11 SRPM from the Samba site compiled cleanly and runs fine (daemons and utilities) on my RHAS3 test rig, and on a RHAS3 update 4 production NAS server doubling as a Samba 3 server with 1150+ users of Unix/Linux and soon PDC Windows services.

LDAP mailing list for ldapsam people
People, I came to Samba 3 or 4 weeks ago and now have a successful ldapsam 3.0.11 PDC installation for 1150+ users (around 80 Win 2000 and XP workstations) running together with a DHCP server as an "afterthought" service on a RHAS3 NAS server. I adopted/adapted my already existent Openldap (2.2.17) DSE at that site) and wrote to this list about my experiences. For example I

IBM BladeCenter HS20 blades
Greetings, We have purchased an IBM BladeCenter and I am in the process of testing Linux installation on these things (boot off SAN i.e. qla2300 driver, not using internal drives). My distro of choice is Debian, however, since I'm really not interested in trying to hand compile all the drivers, I decided to try CentOS (which I'm so far very impressed with). On boot, as with the

RES: RES: RES: ocfs installation error on RHAS 2.1
Well, I've compiled and installed Kernel 2.4.9-37 uniprocessor. I've made ocfs setup using version 1.0.9-9 uniprocessor. I've generated ocfs.conf using ocfstool. When I start ocfs using /etc/init.d/ocfs start, I receive the following errors: [root@RAC1 root]# /etc/init.d/ocfs start Loading OCFS: /sbin/insmod ocfs node_name=RAC1.localdomain ip_address=192.168.61 2 ip_port=7000

PATCH: Faststart implementation
Hi, find enclosed a patch to implement faststart (or prebuffering). Basically, it stores a number of "refbuf"s, configurable by seconds. When a new client connects, it adds the prebuffers to que clients' queue so they are delivered as fast as permitted by the connection. As result, the players prebuffers are filled up faster giving a better "response". I tried

Slow logon with samba
Hi all. Everything has been running great, untill 2 weeks ago when I applied redhat errata including a new kernel. (done it loads of times before) Rebooted and all seemed ok (it was half term for me, so maybe 20 users in at the very most) It wasn't until last week people started to complain about how long it was taking to log in. unfortunatly everytime I tried it went in straight away. Basic problem with Samba 3.0.11 PDC on Samba Red Hat RHAS3 ACL srpm.
People have been experiencing problems with the subject line. AFAICS most of them haven't bothered to follow selected bits of the HOWTO. However, the former excludes all references to the idealx scripts, which I cannot use, since my DIT is set up completely differently from the idealx concept. I write my own, disjointed, shell and awk OpenLDAP scripts. Neither on my RHAS3 test rig (config as

A couple more minor questions about OCFS and RHEL3
Oracle appears to have Wim chained in the basement, forced to answer mailing list questions at all hours. I do appreciate it. Our cluster has been stable since we installed RAC, but a few minor issues have me concerned. First, our storage array seems to maintain continuous low-level activity even when the database is shut down. The CPUs spend a modest amount of time in iowait state while this

Samba 3.0.4 on RHEL3
There have been several issues fixes since the 3.0.2 release of Samba. One of the most important issues is a problem with password changing after applying the patch described in the Microsoft KB828741 article to Windows clients. I want to run Samba 3.0.4 on RHEL3. The version provided by RedHat is samba-3.0.2-6.3E. I can't find any other RPMs or SRPMs for RHEL3. Any help you can provide
