Samba/Cups and printers
Hi All,
I'm trying to get samba to work with a CUPS printer setup.
Unfortuantely I'm falling over at the first hurdle. I've installed
samba 3.0.12 from sources and I've a redhat 9.0 box running CUPS 1.1.71.
I've installed the following smb.conf file:-
[global]
load printers=yes
printings=cups
printcap name=cups
passdb backend = tdsam

Error in PDF output in R 2.0.0
The following script works fine in R 1.9.1. It was creating a PDF file
with the graphs in it. In R 2.0.0, I got the error message below. I tried
the same script just outputting to Windows and postscript and the output
was OK. The error message only showed up when trying to create a PDF file.

Printing to a windows printer
Hi,
I trying to print a label printer that is attached to a windows95 machine.
The job is sent to the printer queue on the linux machine (Red Hat 7.3),
but never printed on the printer. When I check the status of the print
queue on the linux machine, I get the following:
[root@S12601 syn]# lpq -Pbinpos
Printer: binpos@S12601
Queue: no printable jobs in queue
Server: no server active

Alternative way of installing Windows printer drivers on a Samba 3.0 server
Base: Red Hat RHAS3, PDC security = user
Samba 3.0.14a
Cups 1.1.17
Windows XP Pro
Epson C42UX (cheap inkjet) USB to the server
I was looking for an alternative to the immensely complicated Add
Printer Wizard procedure (APW) detailed in chapter 19.6 of the Samba
HOWTO guide. The following is a method that works for me, I don't
necessarily expect it to work for others, and I'd value any

AW: How to print to CLIENT local printer?
You must create a output filter.
Edit /etc/printcap and add your client printer like this:
...
PC-PRINTER:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/PP01:\
:mx#0:\
:lp=/dev/null:\
:if=/var/spool/lpd/Filter/PP01:\
:sh:
...
Adjust the printcap parameters as needed (spool directory, directory to find
the filter script). Make sure the lpd can access the directory. Consult your
manual.
Now create the filter

Win client can print if printer manually created but not when auto driver installed
Is this a samba issue or cups? I can print from a client just fine if I
install a local printer attached to a local smb port
(\\server\printershare). But when I create a "network" printer (using apw
or double clicking on printershare in explorer), all I get for a test page
(or from anything else actually) is a blank page with three non-alpha, greek
lookin chars in the upper right.

Samba Printing to Win98
I am trying to allow printing from my linux box to my win98 box, to which my
epson stylus printer is attached. It's just not happening...something tells me
I'm flirting with a world of pain.
I *can* print a file by going:
smbclient //rory/EPSON
translate
print /etc/group
but I cannot print from applications, nor can i use smbprint. I tried going:
cat /etc/passwd | sh -x smbprint

Another printing problem...
I'm running samba 2.2.3a-6 under Debian (testing) and I
am having a heck of a time getting Windows 2000 to print
to my printer. I keep getting that "Access denied, unable
to connect" message. At one point I had it so you could
print test pages, but as soon as you tried to print from
an application, it would break. However, that doesn't
even work anymore. I've been reading

Sharing a USB Printer
We're trying to share an Epson USB inkjet printer via Samba 3.0.2-7 on our new
Fedora server.
The share is set up OK, and can be seen and opened from Windows clients. However,
although the Fedora box can print to the Epson, the Windows boxes can't.
All other Samba shares, including a laser printer connected to the parallel port,
work fine.
Does anyone have a clue how to fix this?

Problems with CUPS and a networked epson printer
I have an Epson Stylus Color 880, connected to our network via an
external ethernet printserver. I used to run lprng on the samba server
(which is a domain controller), and the Windows clients had one minor
problem accessing this printer via Samba (2.2.3a, then): Every time a
client wanted to print, the Epson status monitor on the client would
complain about communication problems with the

Win2K can't print to a Samba Printer?
Hello,
** Please CC replies to ian@ichilton.co.uk as I am not subscribed **
I have a Brother laser printer connected to a linux box running Samba.
It is working fine from Win98 workstations, but now I have Win2K on my
laptop, I am unable to print. This is because the linux box obviously
doesn't have the win2k driver so I tried to install it as a local
printer and then change it to a network

Clients can find printer when "browsing" but not otherwise
I had a working Samba installation on my home network. Then I replaced one
printer with another. The new printer is successfully installed on my RedHat
9.0 system on /dev/lp0. It is an Epson C82. From the RedHat system all is
well.
However, I am unable to print to this printer via Windows XP boxes on my
network. Samba is working to the extent that Windows can find these printers
