mysql
Hello,
Does dovecot require mysql in order to work? Fedora rpms are claiming
mysql dependencies.
I'm sure you're aware of the long-lived arguement of postgresql v. mysql.
If it wasn't your intention to force this, then please snarl at Red Hat.
If it was your intention, then grrrrr!
Thanks for this product. I like it for it's speed and stability.

URLS and Human Factors
This post addresses URLs generated by Ruby on Rails from a human
factors point of view.
Allow me to use Hieraki as an example. Hieraki is a great
application. It was one of my first introductions to the power of
Ruby on Rails.
Scenario: When I navigated to Chapter 1 of a book the URL in my
address bar was http://www.library.com/read/chapter/6. This
inconsistancy ("Am I on Chapter 1 or

wifi cluelessness
The nice folks at work have just provided me with a new, really spiffy,
ThinkPad. So, I''m trying to get wireless working under CentOS4 and I''m
having trouble. First, I can''t seem to find any rpms to just install
(this would be really nice). And, second, when I try to build it from the

Access200 Sharing Problem
Hi!
Using samba-3.0.11 or 3.0.11rc1 on RH9
Win Clients are XP SP2
I have a problem with sharing an ACCESS2000 mdb file on a samba share. The
first user can open the file without any trouble. The next user (or the
same user again) has to wait a timed 4 minutes before the database opens
for him.
I have tried a number of various locking options (oplocks = no, veto

Testing Samba and NFS/AMD inter-action
Hello all,
Some may find this redundant, but this addresses a lot of qustions that
I've been seeing, in the last few months, that were not dealt with, in the
whole. In this message, I am addressing only capabilities, not specific
HOW-TOs. It's more of a WHAT-IT-CAN-DO with a hint of
WHY-YOU-WOULD-WANT-TO. In the near view, treat this as a features test report.

Why %M makes two log files?
I use log.%M to get per client logs. This works but I always end up

Why (&(objectClass=sambaDomain)(sambaDomainName=SARDINE))?
I have a member server that is constantly querying the LDAP server with -
(&(objectClass=sambaDomain)(sambaDomainName=SARDINE))
- when security=domain and workgroup=backbone. The server DOES authenticate
domain users, and everything seems to work, but this draining resources.
This is RH9, Samba 3.0.3pre2 (although I'm pretty certain I saw this on 3.0.2)
and OpenLDAP openldap-2.1.25-1

Password Expirey
Is there anyway to expire password for windows clients with a Samba (in my case
recent alpha version)? I found a post the TNG parameter "password expire time =
10" but a "strings smbd | grep expire" didn't turn in up in the binary. Anyone
have any ideas if this is possble (I see it posted frequently to the archives,
but no answers).

Removing Everyone access on Samba shares
Hi list,
My setup:
Debian etch (ext3 with acl) with Samba 3.0.22, kerberos5, winbind.
Samba box added to a Windows 2003 Domain.
Winbind works as expected. It is possible to use domain accounts to
access the shares.
What I wonder is how to remove the Everyone and Domain Users entries
in the Security Tab in Windows.
As I understand it. Everyone always show because of the POSIX

I see "everyone permission" at windows security even i didn't add.
I created a share with the config I gave below. As you can see in pictures
I have two Everyone at "Permission" and one Everyone at "Share" section.
These permissions comes when i create a share.. One of them is definitely
related to samba because it is in the "share" section, but I guess the
other two permits are comes with "posix acl".
But i did not add

RJS error in internet explorer
hey all,
got a rails app i''m finishing up. i have a little ajax on one of my
pages where the person can choose a doctor from a drop down list and if
the doctor isn''t there they can click a link which blinds down a little
form to add a doctor. after they submit that mini-form the page updates
the div which houses the drop-down so the doctor shows up. works very
nicely IN FIREFOX.
