PDC, BDCs - how do you synchronize roaming profiles?
Hello, I'm about to deploy Samba PDC and several BDCs. As far as I understand Samba and domain logons, this means that a user will be able to log onto any server, with his workstation choosing a domain controller that is probably the closest/fastest etc. one. As a consequence, this also means, that on each server there has to be a copy of a profile of a given user, right? If so, how can

extension based on a dialed number?
I have an ISDN line with 10 numbers. The line is then connected to * with one HFC-based card. The format of the numbers is like below: 123456-0 123456-1 ... 123456-9 Now I would like to connect those numbers to different telephones, i.e. when someone dials 123456-0, he/she is connected to the digital receptionist. If someone dials 123456-2, the connection goes to SIP/202 If someone dials

two way synchronization with rsync?
I have two offices in one city; employees work in both of them (once in office A, the next or an hour later in office B etc.). They would like to have the same profile (i.e., if they log off in office A, they would like to have their documents, Desktop, emails etc. in the profile in the office B when they arrive there an hour later). Is it possible with rsync to construct such a "two way

Samba as Active Directory replacement - is it possible?
Hello, I've been trying to figure out if it's possible to replace Active Directory with Samba (+ OpenLDAP, Kerberos, DNS etc.) on Linux - but from what I've found I'm not sure. Is it possible, or partially possible (I don't need every feature of AD)? What additional software (besides Samba) will I need? What functionality will I loose? Where can I find any

chan_capi on 2.6 - impossible?
Hello, I'm trying to get my Eicon Diva 2.01 PCI ISDN card working with Asterisk and was told that I still have some chance if I tried using chan_capi. I tried compiling it (chan_capi) on two systems running 2.6 kernels, but got lots of errors. Before I go investigating - is it possible to compile chan_capi on 2.6 kernels? Or does it work with 2.4 ones only? Tomek

different logon path for different users - local profiles for a few users only - how?
I would like to have roaming profiles for one group of users (student1, student2), and local profiles for another group of users (Joe, Mary). Is it possible with Samba? From what I've tested, one can use either roaming profiles with a setting similar to the one below: logon path = \\%L\profiles\%G\%U Or local profiles, using the logon path empty: logon path = I have no clue how to

spandsp + HFC poor fax quality?
I've been trying to set up incoming faxes using spandsp with a HFC card. Unfortunately, incoming faxes are of very poor quality, the pages are not transferred wholly (sometimes only a bit of a page is transferred etc.). From what I've read, I may have troubles with correct "timing" (and need to set up ztdummy etc.). On the other hand, it is impossible to set ztdummy if one

Re: XP Pro - Folder Redirection / Roaming Profiles Question
Hi folks, I running samba 3.x in PDC mode with an ldap backend. Works great! I use roaming profiles with folder redirection on win2k, no problem. Here's the issue, I have a few machines that run xp pro that I need to give the users domain access but NOT roaming profiles. So, I have disabled roaming profiles on the pcs by using the "no propagate changes to the server" and "only

samba user1 -> samba user2 migrating - how?
I have a situation like that: Samba as a domain controller with roaming profiles enabled; Windows 200 SP4. Old user Joe with a roaming profile (doesn't work anymore). New user Bob which has to use Joe's roaming profile. Simply adding user "bob" to the system and renaming the old profile (home/samba/profiles/joe) to a new name (/home/samba/profiles/bob) doesn't work.

With Windows domain controllers with when the profile size is too big (and there are limits appled), when the user logs out, he/she gets a warning, and a list of files, sorted from the biggest, to the smallest. allowing users to install printers
What is the easiest way to allow normal users to install printers (which are available through a Samba server)? Normally, Windows 2000 and XP need to have a printer installed by the admin first on a given workstation - only the it can be used by the user. I want to allow the user to install own printers. Now, when one trises to right click on a printer on a server and "connect", he

Samba as a domain controller for Linux workstations?
I was wondering, if it's possible to set up Samba as a sort of a domain controller for Linux workstations? I'm thinking of benefits like roaming profiles, managing printers etc. Or perhaps for Linux there are better choices than Samba, when it comes to the office / school use (many users, many classrooms, many workstations etc.)? -- Tomek http://wpkg.org

SVN/CVS-like share for Samba users?
I am looking for some solution, working with Samba preferably, which would allow multiple users to work on one document. This means that if a user makes a change to the document, a previous version of that document is saved somewhere else. For example, user A opens a document (rw - read/write, ro - read-only document): rw \\server\share\document.txt User makes some changes, and saves it to

Samba3 + LDAP - w2k says it couldn't change password (but it did)
Hello, I have a following test environment: 1) Samba PDC + OpenLDAP Slave (192.168.1.2) 2) OpenLDAP Master (192.168.1.1). Whatever is changed/added on the Master, it gets replicated to Slave. Now, when a user is logged in, and tries to change the password - he/she must supply the old password, and twice new one (normal behaviour). After pressing OK the user is said that the password
