Samba, OpenLDAP and Passwords
Hi,
I have an existing OpenLDAP directory, that I want to use as the backend for
a Samba 3 instance.
I do not want for now making Samba a Domain Controller, but only define in
it some shares accessible by users on LDAP.
I have imported in my slapd.conf the samba schema, and I have inserted in my
smb.conf all the directives for connecting to an LDAP server:

pGINA and samba - authentication against LDAP userPassword field?
Hi,
Back to a while ago, someone mentioned about taking pGINA code to samba, so samba can work against LDAP authentication, but instead of using the sambaNTPassword and sambaLMPassword, this way samba can use the userPassword field directly.
This sounds very promissing because we can then just use one set of passwords. It may be not usable in a domain enviroment where machine accounts and other

Problems with userPassword when it's base64 encoded
I'm switching from OpenLDAP to the newly released Fedora Directory
Server (formely known as the Netscape Directory Server) as a LDAP
backend for my Samba domain.
I'm now faced with a problem regarding how Fedora DS handles the
userPassword field.
Unlike OpenLDAP it encodes it in base64 so instead of reading
userPassword: {SSHA}0lP+r3Z1NVan7Caf4CG9oSgnTbQRrv/p
it reads:
userPassword::

Urgent - Password Migration from WINNT 4.0 to Samba-LDAP
Hi,
I am working on migrating WINNT 4.0 Domain to Samba. User information
is being stored in LDAP. I have done test migration and works fine. I
can migrate users, groups and machine accounts. But, after migrating I
have seen that it does migrate sambaLMPassword, sambaNTPassword fields
but it does not migrate userPassword(unix password) field. For all my
users, in the user password field, it has

Migration, which password?
Greetings!
It is premature for me to send out a "success procedure for migration"
yesterday. I overlooked things and I appologize for to this group.
Anyway, after migration, computers, users, groups are all created and
filled up with the correct membership. However, I still have the same
problem with machine password and user password. Further looking into the
detail, it looks

SSHA password modified without smbpasswd
Hello,
I've the following goal to reach : modify the attribute userPassword via
a Java method in a Samba LDAP tree.
I successfully changed the SSHA password in the LDAP.
But I can't open a session with this new password. It seems, that
sambaNTPassword et sambaLMPassword must be changed too ... but i don't
know how to do it ...
Any idea ?

changing password on samba bdc
Greetings All.
First let me introduce my situation
Machine1: Pdc Samba + OpenLDAP(master)
Machine2: Bdc Samba + OpenLDAP(slave)
LDAP stores Samba and POSIX information for each user.
Case1: I login to Machine1 and invoke smbpasswd. I change
my passwords (samba and posix without any problem). In next
few seconds they get propagated to Machin2 wher I can login
with new credentials.

pamsmb_pass, userPassword & samba(LM/NT)Password
Hi All,
Has anyone used pam_smbpass before with Samba 3 and Solaris 9?
The problem I am facing is that the sambaNTPassword/sambaLMPassword and
the posixAccount userPassword attributes are not the same.
While I can use "net rpc vampire" to migrate the lanman password hashes
the posixAccount attribute remains unpopulated.
I have discovered that the smbldap tools has scripts to

changing ldap passwords?
Samba experts,
I am using Samba 3.0.8 on an AIX 5.1 system with ldap authentication. I
have ldap working so that users can authenticate in their samba account via
ldap. However, I am trying to figure out the best method for allowing
users to change their ldap samba account password.
What is the best method to allow end users to change their LM/NT
passwords for Samba via LDAP?

Can't join machines to a Samba PDC using LDAP
I've been trying to do this for days, and I think I'm really close. It's
become one of those so-close-yet-so-far sorts of things. I'm running
Gentoo -- all sync'ed up and current as of a week ago -- with the
following package versions:
openldap-2.1.30-r5
pam_ldap-178-r1
nss_ldap-239-r1
smbldap-tools-0.9.1-r1
phpldapadmin-0.9.5 (very cool, I must say!)

samba with customized ldap backend
I have to assume much, I'll try. So...
- No AD, that's some NT4 domain.
- No Winbind because Winbind is using samacccountname as user login and not
UID.
- Issue happens on Linux or UNIX clients.
The question is what tool (SSSD, pam_ldap / nss_ldap, nslcd...) are you
using to retrieve information from LDAP to forge users on system side.
Once you get an answer to this previous question
