is "security = share" maintained in 3.0.x?
Hi,
I've been having a problem in Samba version 3, using "security =
share". When you have a share that you want to be read-only to one
group, and read-write to another. It ends up being read-write for both
groups. This behavior seems inconsistent with Samba 2.2.x behavior.
Have the configuration options changed, or is this a bug? This issue is

modification time inconsistency
Hello,
I have a client with a windows utility that relies on "touch"ing (changing
the mod time) on zero-length files in a folder for the purpose of judging
when that folder was last accessed. This works fine for him on mapped
windows servers, and from the local disk, but from a Samba (v3.0.22) volume,
the mod time doesn't change unless there was an actual data change within

ext3/kjournald overhead
Hi,
I've recently installed ext3 on an 800MB RAID5
(software) array. I am running RedHat Linux 7.1 with
the Linux kernel 2.4.12-ac3 on a 1GHz Pentium system
with 128MB RAM. I am seeing a significant amount of
write operation slowdown when running ext3 (and
kjournald), as opposed to my old ext2. The problem
seems to be associated with the times that kjournald
is accessing the disk. At

Logging in via Linux machine to Windows Domain
Hi List -
I have a friend that runs a Windows domain with Active Directory and is
setting up some new laptops with Redhat. He wants to automate installs,
etc. on these laptops as he would on a Windows machine.
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this - and also if anyone
knows of a good tutorial for joining a Linux machine to a Windows domain.
I've heard that it is possible.

Installing Wine
I am a newbie and trying to install Wine-20050111-i486-S10.gz. I untarred
it, I think, and it created several directories in my Home/Wine folder. I
can't get the ./tools/wineinstall to work though, it keeps telling me there
is no such file or folder. I am in the same directory with the Readme file.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have read all the instructions I
can find on

Although Andrew is totally biased, Python does run

How to use ldapsam backend without storing any user SID?
Hello,
When Samba is configured to use smbpasswd as a backend,
it uses an algorithm to construct SIDs from uid/gids.
The SIDs are not stored anywhere.
But when ldapsam is used as a backend,
without changing anything else to the configuration,
a SID *has to* be stored in the entry of each user.
I don't need nor want that.
- Is it possible to have a LDAP backend but still use
the algorithm to

parameter "ldap user suffix" ignored?
Hello,
It seems that the smb.conf parameter "ldap user suffix" has no effect
when searching for users.
When searching for a user in the LDAP server samba uses the simple
"ldap suffix" without prepending the "ldap user suffix". But it works
for "ldap group suffix". The description of these two parameters are
similar in the manual for smb.conf.

custom print processing
Hi all,
I've got a printserver working using cups/samba,ADS. I'm want to pass
any jobs through a custom script which will do various things, including
checking user quotas from a custom database
(I know there are print quota solutuions out there that will fit in
nicely with cups and samba, but I need to do this a different way due to
some custom things we need to do)
I've tried

3.0.1x, "min password lenght" deprecated, smbpasswd
Hallo @all,
since 3.0.10 parameter "min password lenght" is deprecated. If removing
the entry from smb.conf, the default of "min password lenght = 5" is
used. smbpasswd uses this entry if creating or changing passwords.
How can I set a min password lenght of 2 characters without the
deprecated parameter when the passdb backend is smbpasswd?
Think "min password

problem with postback generator on 0.9.5
I''m trying to call the postback generator on rails 0.9.5. I''ve
installed the postback tarball into

supposed to be. At least, I installed the login generator the same way
and it works. But when I try to run it, I get this:
