wget not in minimal install
Hi All, I used to always do a minimal install with v4.4, and wget (and other tools) was included. With v5 if i untick *everything* in the installation (incl "base") so that i can install from 1 cd, wget is not included. I couldn't make sense of any of the xml or xml.gz files on the installation cd. (/dev/cdrom/repodata/*), although they do mention wget as 'default'

Xen Minimal images for CentOS 4 and 5 x86_64
Hi, A while back I had created some minimal Xen images for centos-4 and centos-5 on x86_64 paravirt under a c5 x86_64 install. The images are at : http://www.karan.org/mock/Xen/ root account password for these images is : p4s5w0rd Feel free to look and use/abuse as you like, yum is completely functional within the images and its recommended you do a 'yum update' as soon as possible.

minimal hedge variance ratio
Hi all i have two data sets, spot and futures cash market prices. to estimate the minimum variance hedge ratio, i first had a glance on the correlation coefficient of relative price change (ln(St / St-1). surprizingly the value is just 0.2 compared to actual price correlation of 0.9. (i did regress the spot change on future change, co-effi is 0.3, and R2 is only 0.025 a) in such scenario can

A new, minimal Sphinx gem for Rails
Howdy all, I wanted to share this blog post we just published at Harvest: http://www.getharvest.com/blog/2011/03/thebes-a-new-minimal-sphinx-gem-for-rails/ If any of you are doing work involving clusters of Sphinx servers or with Sphinx under Rails 3, we think this gem is a pretty great fit. The approach is to use ERB templating to configure Sphinx instead of a DSL. You need to learn the

Hi I have inherited some kickstarts that attempt to remove some packages that at some point its been deemed they are not required. I am migrating all this over to cobbler but trying to get to the bottom of this error that although the kickstart completes sshd cant start as the package nss is not installed. 6.5 minimal kickstart bug?
I am new to kickstart file, but my understanding of the process is that I am supposed to be able to take the anaconda-ks-cfg file from the /root directory, copy it to an accessible location, and point the install disk to it, and it should reproduce the install I did originally. I used the 6.5 minimal install ISO, copied and renamed the ks.cfg. It is seen as a kickstart file, but it refuses

truly minimal install
Hello, we want to distribute our company software as virtual appliances (VMWARE) on Centos5 . My question is, which way i will achieve really minimum install (with yum). So far, i have during install unchecked all packages , then customized groups and removed everything including base system. As a result my CentOS install was 800MB , which is still to much for us. Value around 300 - 400 MB is OK.

minimal configuration for custom RPC?
I'm working on a system that needs secure communications between multiple hosts, some of which are Linux and some of which are Windows, and all hosts need to serve as both clients and servers. I wanted potentially to use MSRPC/DCERPC as the comms mechanism. All the comms are application-specific, and I specifically want to avoid including the full Samba system, just what I need to implement
