samba ldap?
Samba Ldap experts, I am trying to recompile samba to support ldap. After compiling samba with --with-ldapsam, I had no errors with configure or compilation. However, after starting up smbd and nmbd, I get these errors in the log.smbd file when I try to connect to the server: [2004/12/20 13:57:02, 0] lib/debug.c:reopen_logs(590) Unable to open new log file /var/log/samba/smbd.log: No

Dovecot too many open files???
Dovecot experts, We just recently deployed Dovecot 1.0.rc15 on a Redhat 5 system. I have over 1400 users. At first it appeared to work fine. But soon, we had complaints of students that couldn't retrieve their email. I looked in the logs and found this error. Jan 7 22:27:31 stu dovecot: auth(default): pam(pucklisl,<http://144.89.40.6>144.89.40.6): pipe() failed: Too many

compiling libldap error??
Samba experts, Ok, we are having so many problems getting ldap to work, we decided to start over with our compile. We are compiling Samba --with-ldap on our AIX 5.1 system which uses gcc. Openldap (for client support) exists in /usr/local/openldap/2.2.17. In order for Samba to find the ldap.h file, we had to configure with CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/local/openldap/2.2.17/include"

Generic Samba Question
Hey guys! Question for you in about samba in general, can you set it up so that I can access my samba shares from a computer not in my subnet? Aka, I want to be able to access my samba server (using samba) off of my network. I've seen documentation stating that this can be done, but my experences with the actual system seem to be otherwise! Any help in getting this going (if it can work)

Win2k Password Hash
I posted this earlier, but never saw it show up in the mailing list so I'm posting it again. I have a Samba 3.0 PDC using LDAP as it's password database backend, but I can't get a user to log on to a Win2k machine on the domain. In the log file for the PC (on the Samba machine), I see that the user is found in the LDAP backend but that getpwnam failed. The username does not

ldaps support in dovecot-ldap.conf?
Dovecot experts, Does Dovecot support ldaps:\\ connections in dovecot-ldap.conf for ldap connections? I can get regular ldap:\\connections to work, but not ldaps:\\ connections. I have even downloaded the latest beta version of dovecot and it still doesn't work. If its not supported, will it be in the near future? Note: We are using Centos 5 and Redhat 5 systems. Tim Tyler

ACL's for smbpasswd to work?
Samba experts, Thanks to advice from this list, I am finally able to get smbpasswd to change ldap passwords for the Samba LM/NT passwords. However, I had to give write access to sambaPwdLastSet and sambaPwdCanChange attributes as well. Other Samba attributes don't seem to need write access. I have found plenty of examples with people assigning an ACL for sambaLMPassword and

Samba LDAP Tools and mkntpwd
I'm in the middle of Samba 3.0.9 ==> 3.0.14a migration testing. Because I'm using newer tools, I am also using a newer verions of the Samba LDAP Tools. My older version, 0.8.4, used the 'mkntpwd' utility to generate NT passwords. The new version, 0.9.1 defaults to using (what looks like) a Perl module called Crypt::SmbHash. My questions: Do I need to continue to use mkntpwd?

LDAP and Password Values
I remain unclear regarding Samba and LDAP. It appears that mkntpwd is required to generate a viable sambaNTPassword and sambaLMPassword attribute values. But I believe I read that the current incarnation of smbpasswd can accomplish this. Lastly, when utilzing phpLDAPadmin, do the NT and LM password fields contain the values generated by mkntpwd? -- Raymond

load password users in Ldap
Hello, I'm new in Samba Ldap. I use samba-2.2.3a and openldap2-2.1.4-46. I am going to load in Ldap a lot of users in a ldif file as it is shown below. But I don't know how to put samba password. I can use: smbpasswd juan1 and then the fields lmPassword and ntPassword are changed. In this way, after load all users in Ldap I would need a script to do a smbpasswd for each user
