A little help with nss_ldap - User xxx in passdb, but getpwnam() fails!
I keep getting the following errors when I try to log on to my domain or
access a share (some how I have no clue I was able to get one computer
to access the samba domain). It is a standalone PDC, ldap on the same
computer.
This problem has been killing me for about a week, any help would be
greatly appreciated

Detail on Samba 3 By Exmaple (comments).
Hi!
I have been reading the Samba 3 by example avaible on the web site
(samba-guide.pdf), I think it is very good, but have a question:
- In section 6.3.5 (page 150, numerated), there is a note wich says that
the computers account must be inside the People container due to an
error in samba. Is this true?, or can it be due to the config of the
nss-ldap and the pam-ldap modules wich is on

machine account locations
OK I'm confused.
Can machines be in ou=Computers,dc=somewhere,dc=net ?
Every thing works fine if I configure so that machine accounts are created under
ou=Users. If configured for machines to be in ou=Computers, I can't add a new
machine. Error returned is "The user name could not be found." This is from the w2k
machine itself.
The release notes for 3.0.11 seem to say adding

smbldap-tools broken pipe
Hi,
I am working on establishing a Samba+LDAP server with management by the
smbldap tools from idealx. Versions are Samba 3.0.14a, OpenLDAP 2.2.24,
smbldap tools 0.8.8 all on Solaris 8. I'm thinking I have a problem with
my perl (perhaps), version 5.8.5, as I keep getting "Broken pipe" messages
when using smbldap-populate, smbldap-groupadd, etc. Google produced no

urgent: winbind doesn't see groups from samba pdc+ldap
Hallo!
after migrating the pdc from nt to samba+ldap my member fileserver doesn't see
the groups anymore.
I set it up with nss as shown in:
http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/unixclients.html#ch9-sdmnss
getent passwd + group show all user and groups correctly
wbinfo -u shows all users correctly, but wbinfo -g show only 2 builtin
accounts.
I tried without nss only with winbind

Replication errors with LDAP and problems with NT machines
Hi all!
I work as a computer technician for a small school and have recently
upgraded our network to use samba servers. Our main computers are a PDC,
a BDC, a file server and a backup server, all using Red Hat Fedora Core
3 as a base. The clients on our network consist of machines with Windows
XP and a few with Windows NT.
Everything seems to work just fine except for some minor but annoying

Mis-behavior of ldap.conf regarding nss?
Hello all,
I run a samba 3.0.26a-1ubuntu2.3 on an Ubuntu 7.10 server with OpenLDAP
both for samba and for posix accounts. Everything runs fine, except for
one problem. I have a ou=People-inactive branch on my ldap server on
wich I store (guess what?) inactive people. I don't want my system to
recognize those entries as valid users, so I set my /etc/ldap.conf as

How to use another attribute than the uid ?
Hi,
I use Samba 3.5.4 PDC with ldap backend on a sles10 server with kernel smp
2.6.16.60-0.21.
On the ldap, the uid attribute can't be used for reasons beyond my control.
So i must use another attribute for the authentication (uidAuth).
In order to achieve this, i edited 3 files :
=> ldap.conf
=> smb.conf
=> nsswitch.conf

Weird statup probems TLS & SSL openldap and samba 3.0.23
Hello,
I am kind of confused with this situation. I am attempting to build a
PDC using TLS/SSL with the following version of software.
Samba 3.0.23
OpenLDAP 2.3.19
Fedora Core 5
When I startup the Samba server via the "service" command (service smb
start) I get the following errors in my logs.
