Samba+LDAP: NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL because of primary group SID mismatch
Hi, I'm trying to get my new samba server running for a few days now and I start losing my mind over not figuring out what I'm doing wrong. Here's my setup: OpenLDAP 2.4.21 server with ~15 groups and >100 users, all having a unix and a samba NT password stored in the LDAP as well as a User SID and Primary Group SID assigned and stored in the LDAP, derived from the SID of the LDAP

samba-netlogon
Hello List, I'm having a problem with a windows95 client under Samba server 1.9.17p4. I've created a bat file, named user1.bat, user1 is the name of the ordinary user in use, under the home directory: /home/samba/netlogon. The matter is that when windows logs the bat file is not loaded automatically. The commands inside of it are very simple, as shown in the list below: NET TIME

Long Delay on Fresh Windows 7 Clients
For testing purposes, I am running Windows 7 on a VM (VMWare), reverting to "fresh install" Windows 7 frequently. This Windows 7 client, needs to access a share on a local Samba server (Samba 3.0.23a-1 running on Fedora Core 4). When I type \\sambahost\sharename, a prompt for the username and password will eventually appear (and let me authenticate successfully) but it takes almost

Samba 2.0.5a: couldnĀ“t set effective gid error
Hi together, I?m heavy dealing with a strange behaviour of my samba server. When I try to log on with smbclient -L <sambahost> -Usmbuser I get an error message: ERRSRV - ERRbadpw (Bad password - name/password pair in a Tree Connect or Session Setup are invalid.) smbuser exists in both the passwd and the smbpasswd and is assigned to not have a password. In the log.smb (loglevel 3) I find

user authentication issue
Hey Samba list, First a brief comment regarding my background and situation. This is my first time posting to this list. I've been asked to resolve a Samba authentication issue, but I have next to no experience using Samba. Unfortunately no one else here knows how to use it either; we're operating with an inherited environment from a sysadmin who left minimal documentation, and we have

openldap PDC : can't add machine account ; "too many domain info entries"
I've ereditated this quite messy openldap server from the previous administrator, samba (3) relies on it for acting as a PDC. The main problem (while I build a new directory from scratch) is you can't add a machine account to the domain : On the client it says the credentials are invalid, anyway the real problem (from samba logs) seems to be : "Got too many (2) domain info entries

Required Services for Samba?
When the world was young, "Ken Walker" <kwalker@island.net> carved some runes like this: > I have been working on setting up IP MASQ on my home network (using > RH6 as server with dial up modem connection and Win98 on another > computer as a client) and making some changes to services the Linux > box runs with security concerns in mind. Samba 3.0.23c Install on Solaris9
Hello. I have been trying to find an answer to a problem that has plagued our systems. I am trying to upgrade from 3.0.22 to 3.0.23c. I have been able to compile, but when I go to join it to the AD domain, I keep getting this familiar error that many others have noted but have not posted many solutions to. arcdba-> ./net ads join -U Administrator Administrator's password: Using short

Printer settings reset problems
Hi, I am working on a print server project where we have ran into a big showstopper. The print server works in a very mixed environment with clients running for example Linux, Windows NT4, Windows 2000, VMS, different Solaris versions and other Unix dialects. The server runs CUPS for printer spooling and Samba to serve the Windows machines. It's the Windows machines that has caused most

Windows XP profile problems
s there is trick to fully copying an existing local profile over to your new domain profile after you join the Samba domain? I tried the profile copy under System Properties, on the advanced tab and although it completed, I log on and MS office wants to load files from the CD and my start menu seems to be missing the entire left side column. When I look at the size and number of files my

2.2.6+acl - strange behaviour
intro: i use a heavily customized arch-linux clone, so this is no newbie stuff. except root all linux users are auth'ed via winbind/w2kdc's. for windoze-user-convenience i have to use winbind use default domain == yes and installed ext3-acl support. acls are working ok, if managed via get/setfacl an also samba honours them correctly. for windoze-user-convenience acls should

"modified outside" bug.
Hi! I can't find this bug in FAQ: VisualC++ 5.0 alwais complains "This source file has been modified outside the source editor. Reload?" Sources are located on the last samba server under Linux. System clock on Linux is set to Greenwich, zone offset applied. I tried to set NT clock to be more than Linux, this does not help. -- Andrew

Samba 4 problems
Greeting- It has been years since I last set up a Samba server. The last one I did was a 2.x version! For the last two weeks I have been fighting with 2 issues with a samba 4 server I have set up for testing. . Encrypted transport seems to not work for me . Unix user smith and Samba user smith seem to have different UID numbers when files are created. At the moment the second issue is the

One of the SOLUTIONS for winbind authenication failures with STATUS_BUFFER_OVERFLOW
I had this problem and I could not find the solution on Usenet that's why I'm posting - maybe somebody more fortunate won't have to spend hours and hours to fix this. Problem: successfully joined Samba to Windows AD. wbinfo -g and wbinfo -u worked fine, wbinfo -t did not: # wbinfo -t checking the trust secret via RPC calls failed error code was STATUS_BUFFER_OVERFLOW

Inherit permissions of destination during file move.
Hi all, We have a Linux host sharing a folder out via Samba. The Linux host has underlying ACLs set on the files using setfacl to grant local Linux groups permissions on the files and folders. The users of Samba are then placed into groups which in turn grant them these permissions via Samba when accessing the files and folders from a Windows RDP Server applying the correct permissions. This is

Basic question for user/pass authentication
Dear, I have Debian + Samba and I've created a smb.conf in order to authenticate users I've created with "useradd -s /bin/false" and after that added to samba with "smbpasswd -a user". I've created the share in /var/share with rwxrwxrwx. I edited some lines from smb.conf in GLOBAL and SHARE sections. I use: security = user but when from the Windows machine I
