ADS member.
I have follow an example in "samba-3 by example book", where it explain how to relocate a samba server as ADS member domain, in a sentence it said to delete all /var/lib/samba/*tdb files, so "winbindd_cache.tdb" and "winbind_idmap.tdb" files but when I start the samba server again in ADS new domain something's wrong. Samba, CUPS, or ?
I've been going over a problem and haven't been able to resolve it. I think I've narrowed the problem down to Samba, but I could use some advice on this. ? A few weeks ago I installed a print and fax server for a client. ?I used an old PII system with 64 MB RAM, SUSE Pro 9.1, configured to use Samba and HylaFAX. ?There are 8 client workstations running Window 98 SE (most of the

Samba shares on Linux machine get disconnected after ~ 1 min
Hi, I have Samba 3.0.13 running on Suse 9.2 on an i586. I can browse and connect to the Samba shares on the Linux machine from Windows XP and Mac OSX. However, about 1 min after connecting, the shares are lost and gone from the network environment - same for Windows XP and Mac OSX. From time to time, they "re-appear" only to be gone after another minute or so. The Windows shares

They can access the files in say excel but when they go to save the changes it gives them a message of Disk Full. New Files they can save, no problem. If they pull

why join domain
I've set up a test Samba PDC with a few test shares. From the first Windows PC I logged on to a local computer account and mapped drives to the shares on the Samba PDC. From the second Windows PC I joined the domain and used a logon script to connect to the shares. My question: What are the benefits of joining a Windows PC to the Samba domain? Both arrangements above appear to meet my

Re: Samba Authentication
Hello, I just setup my machine to login to a Win2000 Domain. When I then go to browse network shares using Konqueror, I am still being asked for the username and password (which I used to login!). I am assuming this is an error in my smb.conf file (which is below). Thanks in advance! -Ed Waldmire ed@simplifiedcomputers.com # smb.conf is the main Samba configuration file. You find a full

printer shares: PDF queue
As you know, Samba up to and including 3.0.8 contains a share "pdf" which is meant to convert an incoming postscript job to PDF. At least in SUSE Linux as well as the Sernet RPMs this is broken because as documented "print command" is ignored if Samba is compiled against libcups and "printing=cups" (see smb.conf man page lines 4564 ff. in 3.0.8 and Chap. 18 of the

Samba, Win XP Not printing
I've been upgrading a client's systems from Win98SE to WinXP and am having an unexpected problem. I have 2 Linux servers. One is a print and fax server which has worked fine with the Win98 workstations. They can browse and find the printer (an HP LaserJet 5Si) and print without problems. The server itself is also running HylaFax and is printing with out a problem. The XP systems

printer shares: PDF queue and AD integration
Hi, after taking a look at the samba-3.0.9 Sernet packages I see that smb.conf is in the samba3-client package not the server package. This smb.conf lacks about every pre-built share we had before. Anyway... I posted this before but no answer yet: As you know, Samba up to and including 3.0.8 contains a share "pdf" which is meant to convert an incoming postscript job to PDF. At least

Strange Samba Problem
Running SuSE 9.2. This problem happens with both the SuSE-supplied Samba on the DVD, as well as the SuSE update rpms to 3.0.9. We even removed all the *.tdb files and recreated the installation from scratch, as always carefully following the steps in S3BE. FWIW, this same config worked previously on this and earlier systems; we did not change anything on this system (other than applying YOU
