memory issues with samba 3.0.10
I'm still having problems with that memory issue using 3.0.10 with v.2
of the printing patch + the one line patch from Jerome Borsboom. My
production server has completely frozen a couple times in the past
couple weeks, and did so again this morning. This time before
restarting samba I removed the tdb files in /var/lib/samba/printing/*
as Jerry mentioned this might help the queue not

enable-cups in spec file
It appears that --enable-cups made it into the Redhat srpm. Neat.
I've been adding that one line to it forever, and did it again this
time without checking for its presence, thus causing the compile to
fail. Thought I'd let the world know in case someone else did something
equally foolish and got confused with config.sub errored out.

BSOD when writing from W2003 clients after SP2 has been installed
Hi,
We are running a RHEL4 x86_64 server, samba-3.0.25b-1.el4_6.4. The server is
running with essentially the same configuration since a year without
problems. Due to a hardware failure on the back-end SAN the samba-server was
moved to a different machine (same OS, same samba version, same config). At
about the same time we deployed SP2 on various W2300 machines (there are in
total about 50 W2003

WinXP print problem
Hello,
I am using samba to acces a printer on my Linux server from Windows XP
Home SP2 clients.
It was working very well until yesterday evening. Since yesterday, I can
print from the server (with cups) but I can't print from the Windows
clients.
And all the shared folders are still OK. There is only printing from
Windows clients which doesn't work.
We changed nothing on the server

OT - Windows slowdown?
I know this isn't the right forum for this (do I ever!), but you-all know so
much about everything I thought I'd ask.
About two months ago I resurrected my daughter's Compaq laptop (cracked
screen - replaced it) and ran an update on it. It's running Windows XP, SP1
(I think), but since the update it has run about 1/3 as fast as it used to.
Does anyone know if there was a WXP

Round 2 - Guest Share on WXP Host
Thanks to everyone who has tried to help so far. Not quite there but I
think I'm close. For anyone new, it's a private 2 comp network (RH9 and
WXP) so I just want the simplest guest access possible.
This is my current smb.conf file:

workgroup = SAMBA
encrypt passwords = yes
smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd
security = share

Access to a share resource without password
Dear, I have a Linux Samba server and a Windows XP SP2 client joined
to the "g-company.net" domain.
I want to access a Linux share resource in /var/share without password
from WXP desktop FROM ANY USER.
This is my scenario:
- I don't create any Linux local user because I want total access from any user
- I use security = share
- My smbusers file is:
root = administrator admin

Lingering IPC$ connections
I'm running the latest samba release (2.2.8a), and everything seems to
be running fine. Except for something that does not look quite right.
Connections to the IPC$ share are being left behind by samba once the
user has logged off. And what's even more troubling is that the pid
associated with the lingering IPC$ connection is picked up by the next
smbd process, and then you have one pid

Samba 3.0.7, WinXP Pro SP2 printing issues with netbiosnames.
Hi
We're currently experiencing some problems that wasn't a problem in 3.0.4.
Since SP2 was installed printers get connected \\<ipaddress>\<printer-name>
instead of \\<netbios-name>\<printer-name>. It's more common on SP2
machines but it happens on non-SP2 machines.
Although these issues are not consistent.
Which some windows applications seems to have a

Samba to share NFSv4 + ACL mounted filesystems on NetApp storage
Hi,
We are running into a problem with a Samba setup and would like to
know if a current fix or workaround is at all possible.
Our setup is a NetApp filer serving NFS v4 that is mounted by
Solaris and Linux servers. On those servers we are using Samba to
create shares of those NFSv4 mounted filesystems. We are migrating
to this NFSv4 setup from an existing Solaris NFSv3+Posix ACL setup
that also

Update: Slow browsing/reading from WinXP SP2
I stumbled onto another tidbit that may shed some more light. From the
new laptop, I tried to create a new folder on the 'samba' share. It
fails with the following error message:
"Unable to create the folder 'New Folder'. Access is denied"
It obviously looks like a permissions issue, but what? I did not have
to make any changes to my other laptop (upgraded from XP

No ACL inheritance with aclmode=passthrough in onnv-134
Hi list,
while preparing for the changed ACL/mode_t mapping semantics coming
with onnv-147 [1], I discovered that in onnv-134 on my system ACLs are
not inherited when aclmode is set to passthrough for the filesystem.
This very much puzzles me. Example:
$ uname -a
SunOS os 5.11 snv_134 i86pc i386 i86pc
$ pwd
/Volumes/ACLs/dir1
$ zfs list | grep /Volumes
rpool/Volumes 7,00G 39,7G 6,84G

- winbind to get AUTH-Info from the W2K ADS Controller
Everything seems to work

Copying (Samba -> WinXP SP2) MATLAB generated .jpg files very slow.
Greetings,
This is a interesting problem. One of our researchers uses MATLAB to
generate jpg files as part of his vision research. When he copies these
files from the file server, it is very slow. I tried 3.0.28a and I see the
same problem as we have with 3.0.28.
Here are some interesting stats.
1) MATLAB generated files:
command: robocopy Y:\23_1 C:\23_1 /e

R 1.9.1 Fails to Start on WinXP SP2
I have two computers both of which are running Windows XP SP2. R 1.9.1
runs just fine on one but not the other. Both installations of R came
from the same installation package. When I click on the desktop icon an
hourglass shows up then disappears. Similarly, if I start RGUI the
process shows up in task-manager then abruptly disappears.
Interestingly, I can access R in Excel via the D(COM) Server

MS-DOS, WinXP SP2 with 3.05 and 3.0.6rc2
Hello!
I use Windows XP SP2 on my clients. I use the http://unattended.sf.net to
automatically
install my WinXP machines from a MS-DOS client. This works fine in
samba-3.0.5 but since
SP2 causes a problem with printers I upgraded to samba-3.0.6rc2. RC2 in
turn doesn't work
with MS-DOS clients. The symptom is that I can boot from the fileserver
but when I try to
invoke a program I get

Windows XP SP2, Azureus, and Samba
Trying again.
Has anyone seen this issue:
I just upgraded to Windows XP SP2 and now I am having problems :(
I have Fedora Core 2 with the latest updates installed. The Samba RPM
version is 3.0.3-5.
The problem I am having is using Azureus and the Samba share. Before
SP2 everything worked fine saving locally and on the Samba server.
Now, after SP2, I am getting messages like this from
