hide unreadable files
Hi all!
I have a problem with the "hide unreadable = yes" option. In windows xp professional sp2 with explorer, or ssh or smbclient, either directories and files does not hide.
I'm using debian 4.0 with XFS file system, ACL, kernel 2.6.18-5-amd64, and samba 3.0.24.
Any idea? It is a bug?
Thanks!

samba management tools
dear list
On the samba.org pages there is an overview of Samba GUI's. I've
recently (via a post on this mailinglist) discovered
http://ldapadmin.sourceforge.net/
It looks very good. Anyone using it here? Experiences?
A specific reason why it it not listed on the Samba GUI page?

Migrating: tdb to ldap (Samba Classic)
Guys,
We have a Samba 4 PDC with TDB backend. We're now trying to a BDC so we
need to migrate from TDB to LDAP . I've read the Samba documentation which
says using tdb in both servers will cause issues. So the question is how do
we migrate from TDB to LDAP in the PDC. The setup we are going for is each
DC will have LDAP setup. The LDAP servers will then be replicated. Reading

Ldapscripts v1.0 !
Hi all,
I've been working on shell scripts that allow to manage ldap accounts (users,
groups, machines). They are similar to the smbldap-tools but do not need PERL to
work (and so on...) and are *very* simple to configure - they may be a good
alternative. The only tools you need are standard ldap client commands (ldapadd,
ldapdelete, ldapmodify, ldapsearch).
The scripts can be used as

Samba PDC- Administrator translated to root
Greetings,
I have a mostly working Samba Primary Domain
Contoller. I have one last problem to work out.
When I try to connect as Administrator I get the
follwoing message:
# smbclient -L localhost -UAdministrator%SOMEPW
session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
I watch the ldap logs and see that samba is requesting

NT4 migration errors
Hi
I've setup samba 3.0.14 with the latest idealx scripts on FC3.
Now I have a test lab to migrate from NT4 box which different than the
standalone PDC I have running.
Here's the order I used and my ldap and samba configs are clean
as far as I can tell since I do get a partial migration.
When using 'net rpc vampire -S nt4 -W DOMAIN' it populates the
groups from NT4 and shows the

help - user password expiration in loop
Hi everybody,
I think i need a samba guru to solve this issue, because googling for
months did not help and the problem is becoming pressing.
I'm facing an annoying problem with samba. In detail, there is something
wrong with the password handling. It happens from windows, mac or linux
clients.
Randomly (probably after $num days), the system asks to the user to
change the password. After the

roll-yer-own ldapadd operations for scipt options?
I'm currently using the suse ldapsmb utility for all the script
operations, but I want to do some custom script work for creating user and
machine accounts. For example, I want to manipulate the default object
classes and directory placement for new machines--putting them into
ou=Devices instead of ou=Users, and giving them the parent objectClasses

Promoting Samba BDC to PDC
Hi All,
Has any one got an idea of how to make clients automatically
find the BDC when the PDC is stopped. Both PDC and BDC are running by
Samba authenticating again a LDAPSAM backend replicated on both the PDC
with master LDAP database and BDC with replicated LDAP database. But
when I stop PDC the clients are not detecting the BDC broadcast. I can
see that the replication is of

Possible documentation error in Chapter 8. Migrating NT4 Domain to Samba-3
Looking through this chapter today and ran across the following
inconsistency under the section NT4 Migration Using LDAP Backend.
Step 3 says
"3. Create a file called preload.LDIF as shown in Example 8.1. Edit the
contents so that the domain name and SID are correct for the site being
installed."
Then step 4 says

Samba + LDAP integration
Hi people,
Been doing a server installation with Samba as a primary PDC that uses an
LDAP backend on CentOS 5.
The thing is that I cannot be able to get Samba and LDAP to talk as they
should and now Im really stuck.
Below are my dumps for /etc/samba/smb.conf, ldap.conf (copied its contents
to /etc/openldap/ldap.conf too), and smbldap.conf.
Excuse my long post; trying to be as elaborate as

problem joining computer to domain
I cannot join my WinXP workstation computers to the Samba domain. Using
the Computer Name / Change on the XP computer gives me an error saying
that the username or password is incorrect - except very occasionally when
it works although I do nothing different!
I have noticed that on when it works there is a machine record set up in
LDAP with Samba data as follows:-

Failed to find sambaDomain object to get sambaAlgorithmicRidBase
I didn't use smbldap-populate. I used ldif files to add groups to LDAP with
ldapadd.
You have rather good questions, NT4 or AD style, I don't know. I am a Unix
guy with very few knowledge in Windows stuff and I try to stay away from it
as much as I can. I have been asked to setup a new LDAP directory with
Samba passwords stored in this LDAP directory.
I base my work on an actual LDAP
