samba v3.0.7 and Suse firewall
Hello, I am setting up a suse linux v9.1 host to provide file and print services to a mix of os/2 and windows clients. In this case windows is not a problem. I am running into difficulty getting the os/2 clients to see the resources on the linux server. The main problem is the firewall. Without the firewall os/2 hosts have no problem with accessing resources. With the firewall the hosts

Strange file permissions
Hi I have a samba server with tdbsam passwords, and a share, PROJECTS, which is accessed by various XP home clients, the usenames and passwords being manually synced to the samba ones (less than 10 users, and only 4 workstations). There is one win2K machine, which is a domain member. Subdirectories on PROJECTS have g+s set, so only users, who are members of specific Linux groups, have access to

linux 2.6 closing connections
Hello list! Are there any known issues regarding samba3 - linux 2.6 kernels? I'm getting disconnects every 20 seconds or so, both via cifs and smbfs mounts. This occurs regardless of whether the connection is in use and sometimes leads to I/O errors (even doing 'ls' on a mounted dir). It is not consistent though, and seems to be triggered by high network traffic. When it is

continuous access to printer causes high memory usage
Hi list, I am trying to track down a printer-related problem. The most important symptom is a smbd process using almost all memory on my machine (up to 800 MB, at the specific case of which I've posted the logs.) At some point the VM will kill the smbd process, freeing the memory. Apart from this, samba keeps on running fine. Investigation of a level 3 debug log of this process has shown

GLM/GAM and unobserved heterogeneity
Hello, I'm interested in correcting for and measuring unobserved heterogeneity ("missing variables") using R. In particular, I'm searching for a simple way to measure the amount of unobserved heterogeneity remaining in a series of increasingly complex models (adding additional variables to each new model) on the same data. I have a static database of 400,000 or

My question on creating binaries
Hi People Thanks to all who replied I did not word the question very well. I had a problem in compiling the binaries on one machine then moving them to another where they would not work. What I did not know then was that the semaphores were not cleared when samba 1.9.18p1 was stopped so I got a shared memory and semaphores error. Cleared it by rebooting after installing the new bins. Thanks

Efficient way to compute power of a sparse matrix
Dear all, I would like to compute power of a square non symmetric matrix. This is a part of a simulation study. Matrices are quite large (e.g., 900 by 900), and contains many 0 (more than 99 %). I have try the function mtx.exp of the Biodem package: library(Biodem) m <- matrix(0, 900, 900) i <- sample(1:900, 3000, replace = T) j <- sample(1:900, 3000, replace = T) for(x in 1:3000)

orthonormalization with weights
Hello List, I would like to orthonormalize vectors contained in a matrix X taking into account row weights (matrix diagonal D). ie, I want to obtain Z=XA with t(Z)%*%D%*%Z=diag(1) I can do the Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization with subsequent weighted regressions. I know that in the case of uniform weights, qr can do the trick. I wonder if there is a way to do it in the case of non uniform

How do I test a unique index?
I have a loans table and a payments table. Each loan has_many payments. So far no problem. Now, the payments table has a payment_number field, and each payment has a payment_number unique within that loan. For example, Loan A can have payment_numbers 0, 1, and 2 and Loan B can have payment_numbers 0, 1, 2, and 3 (but only one of each payment_number). I can enforce this with a unique index in

acf and na.pass
Hello, I would like to have some information about acf with missing values. Let us consider this example: x=rnorm(100) x2=x x2[sample(100,10)]=NA acf1=acf(x) acf2=acf(x2,na.action=na.pass) The computation of the acf is different for the two data sets. Looking at the the code reveals that with missing values, the computation of acf takes into account the number of pairs of non-NA values (i.e.

Samba 2.2.5-10 and Win XP SP1
Hi all, This is my first try on Samba as a PDC. I have managed to setup Samba as a PDC for my home network. The Win98 pc connects and validates no probs, but not the Win XP pc. The acc on the linux system has been created and is fine as well as the samba passwd's. The XP pc is 'changed' onto the domain with no errors, with the user name that will be used by the user to log on the

superimpose histogram on biplot
Hi all, I've been trying to figure out how to superimpose a histogram on a biplot that shows the relative contribution of each axis. I have been using the NIPALS function (http://biomserv.univ-lyon1.fr/~dray/ files/softwares/nipals.R) to run principal component analyses. Here is a toy example. source("http://biomserv.univ-lyon1.fr/~dray/files/softwares/nipals.R")

latin1,utf-8...encoding and data
Hello, I have some questions concerning encoding and package distribution. We develop the ade4 package. For some data sets included in the package, there are accentued character (e.g. ?,?...). The data sets have been saved using latin1 encoding, but some of us use utf-8 and can not see some data sets which contains accented chracters. e.g: librarry(ade4) data(rankrock) rankrock in this case,
