FW: samba clients disconnecting
I am running the latest rev of Redhat ES with samba 3.0.9-1.3E.2. For
reasons unknown, windows clients are intermittently unmapping drives. No
network errors. I've been researching this problem around the internet, but
nothing I've tried seems to work. I have another Redhat 9.0/samba server on
the same network that's run for a year without issue. Please if you any
suggestions,

OpenSSH 3.4p1 on SourceMage client ssh fails
Hi guys,
I have a OpenSSH 3.4p1 installation on a SourceMage box, and I am trying to
connect to a OpenSSH 3.3p1 installation on a RedHat 7.x box and any other
machine.
The client fails with a "Host key verification failed."
Any other client connects correctly to the RedHat box, and any other server
that I try to connect to from the SourceMage box fails with the same error
message.

Traffic monitoring/ip acct of SSH sessions
Hi guys,
I am looking for an IP accounting solution which will allow me to
monitor how much traffic is used per ssh session, ie, scp, sftp, the
shell itself, etc etc.
Is there something similar to rssh that may work in this manner ?
I know there exists kernel patches for user level IPAC, though I am
using virtual users (ie, NSS stuff without /etc/passwd entries), and I
don't see anyway

Errors in smbd log file
List,
Regarding a problem I'm having that I can't login to our domain, after
searching google I checked my smbd log file. I pasted the log file
below. Please know that I could see the samba server in my network
places just fine before. Now when I double click on the domain I get
the error message that the path was not found. I'm running w2k.
Thanks,

Domain Authentication oddities
Hello List,
I am running Samba 3.0.10-1.4E on RHEL 4.0. I was able to join this server
to the domain using the 'net ads join' command and it created a machine
account in AD with the name of the server. My issue is that I can
authenticate using domain credentials when I access the server from a
Windows computer using //SMBSERVERNAME/SHARE, however when I access the
server using

Transport endpoint is not connected
Hello, I tried to google this, but haven't found anything really
helpful so far.
I get stuff like this at one Samba-3.0.9-Domain-Member-Server:

Samba performance issue
Hi,
In the last a couple of weeks, Eric helped me fixed a couple of my new samba 3.0.5 running on HP-UX 11i hang issues. Right now, people still experience slowness when they run some applications on the samba shares OR recursive list directories on the samba shares.
There was not a lot of errors in the individual log files. However, there are some errors in log.smbd and log.0.0.0.0 file.

Authentication problems after upgrading to 3.0.23c
Hi there,
Since upgrading our debian sarge boxes to 3.0.23c, we have found that we
are unable to connect to shares using the official hostname of the
servers (short or fully qualified) but can still use its netbios aliases
(again, short or fully qualified). As nothing else has changed in our
configuration, I think that the change of behaviour is down to the newer
release and can find nothing in

Connection reset by peer
Hi,
We continuously see these errors in our logs. I've done some searches on
this but nothing seems to point to anything specific.
Any ideas?

I have a similar error, I can us XP workstation ad domain members, and they
even use the shares, but two or threes times per day the connection resets,
and I have to kill the smbd and start it again (only restart does not work).
Take look at my LOG. Any idea?

Transport endpoint not connected
Well, I WAS puzzled by this persistent error. Then I stumbled onto
something and I might have fixed it. It looks like with an XP client, XP
might be trying to renegotiate which port to talk (445 or 139) over at the
start of every transaction. Whichever one answers first is used for the
rest of the transfer.
I added this to smb.conf and restarted samba:
smb ports = 139
