Security: ads - "net ads user" works, "wbinfo -u" does not
Hi,
I have Debian Squeeze running Samba being a member of the domain (PDC
and BDC are Windows servers) and it's users are authenticated against
AD using winbind for years.
Now there is a need to setup another virtual Debian box exactly like
that. So the name of the first is STUDENT, I named the virtual
STUDENT2. I'm trying to set up the virtual box exactly the same, using
exactly the

samba-3.0.0 and Active Directory
Hi everybody,
Shortly, I want my Active Directory users to be able to use Linux samba
file server.
The network is: Win XP and w2k clients, an AD server (w2k) and Linux samba
file server (RedHat 7.1).
The services on Linux box (imap, ftp, ssh) are configured to use pam_ldap
and nss_ldap, so 'getent passwd' works fine and gets accounts from both
/etc/passwd (root and a couple of accounts)

IMAP EXPUNGE disconnect/box hang - Fedora Core 2, Squirrelmail and Evolution
I'm a bit befuddled by this behavior. I've been using dovecot for close to a year, and recently the Fedora Core 2 Update: dovecot-0.99.13-4.FC2 build came in via yum. Since then I occasionally get this EXPUNGE disconnect error. When the error hits, the box does not crash but I can no longer log in*, nor start any new processes. I happen to have gkrellm running and I see a slow but steady

Need help with optimizing GlusterFS for Apache
Our webserver is configured as such:
The actual website files, php, html ,css and so on. Or on a dedicated
non-glusterfs ext4 partition.
However, the website access Videos and especially image files on a
gluster mounted directory.
The write performance for our backend gluster storage is not that
important. Since it only comes into play when someone uploads a video or
image.
However, the files

Question on randomization
Hi ,
I am using OpenSSH4.3p2. One of the fixes in this release says that random
seed generation is not necessary for each key generation and initial seed
will be served for the re-exec'ed processess. As better random seed will
yield better random number generation, how can we achieve true randomization
by one time random seed ?
Thanks,

Is DRb server *really* required in production mode?
Greetings,
I''m certainly :-) too thick, but after reading Ferret and AAF''s
documentation I''m still wondering if I really need a DRb server in
production.
At the moment, the planned structure for production mode is a single
server running the app with Apache and fastcgi; as far as I know, Ferret
is multithread-safe, isn''t it? So, is a DRb server required to

algorithm -- generating combinations
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I would like to code a script which processess all possible combinations
of matrix columns. The purpose of such operation is to automatically find
best combination of factors (not those factors in mean of R, but
explaining factors -- independent variables) received from lm(). The
independent variables are present in columns of the matrix.

residuals: lm and glm
Dear list members,
I would like to know the difference in outputs and calculation processes
between residuals.glm(object, type="response") and residuals.lm(object).
For above-ground biomass estimation of trees, I estimated parameters of
an allometric equation (ln y = b0 + b1*ln x) using glm as follows:
fm <- glm(Ws~log(Wb), family=quasi(link="log",

multiple daemons on the same port
I thought if a daemon is already running on the default port, I
thought the additional ones started on the same port will result in an
exit with error, but somehow it seems to work just fine. If I kill the
first process, the second process seems to take control of the port.
As far as I know you can't have two processes binding to the same
port, so does that mean the second process is just

scriptaculous question
Hello everybody.
I''m wondering if there is away with scriptaculous to update multiple form
fields with data after finishing an autocomplete request.
Heres an example.
Joe BlowSchmoe fills in his name and starts to type in the customer number,
he selects the approprate customer number from autocomplete list, and bam
the address associated with the customer number is populated into the

group mapping on a member server - winbindd and solaris 10
>From what I can tell it does look as if I have to run winbindd on
member servers, even if NIS is used, to get SID's mapping consistently
across the domain.
The PDC is Samba 3.025a on Solaris 10. Two member servers are Samba
3.025a on solaris 9.
If i start winbindd on a memv, the "wbinfo -u" and "wbinfo -g"
commands show my users and groups. However, the

samba performance issue
Hi, I recently installed a new samba server to replace an older Novell
machine. Now, we are having performance issues. I have installed many
samba servers, and have not run into this problem before. Some background
info:
The server is an Athlon 1800+ w/ 512MB DDR RAM. We are using software raid
on 80GB IDE ATA 100 drives with the VIA 82C3XX chipset. When mirroring the
drives, we usually get

Check and restart script..
Has anyone written a script that can be used as a cron job or similar that will test if Asterisk is running and if not restart it??
I have just had an issue where asterisk crashed and someone was trying to call me.. it would be nice if it could have been automatically restarted..
I was thinking of a simple bash script something like running "ps -aux |grep asterisk" and then some kind

win2000 and linux 7.2 trouble using samba
I have tried recently to link up two computers over the network using my machine which is win2000 and our Redhat Linux server 7.2 using samba v 2.2.
When I browse the network I can see the approprate workgroup which I have named 'Linux' but the workgroup appears to have nothing available inside it. That is no icon, basically no contents.
I am at a dead end, can anyone help me out?
