[Resolved] Found a way of allowing pam_ldap users (with pam_groupdn or pam_check_host_attr restrictions), AND allowing local root authentication, without pam_unix.so taking presense due to getpwent() returns ldap-users
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I've been trying to get LDAP ssh authentication to work for a while, and I found a bug (http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=bin/116150) in pam_unix.so, that breaks support for ldap-group/host-restrictions the ldap-way. I saw numerous emails about pam_groupdn-ldap-restrictions on the mailinglists dating back to 2001, but no resolution

net vampire and WIn2003 AD
Hello Samba People, it is my first letter to Samba ML, so first of all - thanks Samba team for a great SW. Now the question: I want to migrate from Win2003 AD to Samba 3.3.2. I want to use net vampire feature to import all account information (is there any other way to do it?). Net vampire works partly - in the direct meaning of this word - it is importing only 131 objects. How come? Full

"net rpc vampire" case sensitivity problem
We just migrated a small network from a Win2K PDC to Samba, using "net rpc vampire" into a tdbsam backend on a Samba 3.0.2a Linux box. One of the users, let's call him Jon Harker, had the NT username "JHarker". When we ran "pdbedit -v jharker", we saw this: Unix username: JHarker NT username: JHarker Well, that looks wrong - the NT

Bad passwords from Vampire / NT migration
I just did a clean install of Fedora 9 onto a Pentium 4 machine. It is actually running SELinux enforcing, but I haven't found any errors related to that so far. It is running Samba 3.2.3-0.20. I am trying to migrate a Windows NT 4.0 domain with about 30 users and 30 computers onto a pure Samba setup, using Samba as the PDC and tdbsam. I have read the HOWTO guide extensively, and

net rpc vampire not working
Hi, Can someone help me get "net rpc vampire" in one of its forms working. The objective is to migrate from an NT4 PDC to a SAMBA 3.0 PDC using LDAP as a back end. I am trying to migrate the user and machine accounts across in a lab environment, separate from the main network (I have replicated the PDC to do this). I have samba-3.0.20b built from the samba team source RPM on Fedora

Vampire
Can samba4 vampire another samba4? After a dozen administrators there seems to be some oddities, and since we started with samba4 alpha9 (I think) it may be time to go straight to current release. I guess that the idea is to get a fresh start and I hoping that a vampire rather than an upgrade would only transfer the needed stuff... Am I doing the wrong thing? I now far to little of windows to

sort-of fix for net rpc vampire account creation
This patch allows net rpc vampire to create accounts in the same way that smbpasswd does, i.e. it will attempt to use the appropriate account creation function for the backend in use. From reading the comments on the top of the local_password_change function, either I shouldn't be going this route or local_password_change is due for some sort of change in status. The only major caveat I've

problem with net rpc vampire
I'm trying to migrate accounts from a NT4 PDC to a Samba 3.0.26a server with a ldap backend, using "net rpc vampire". I was able successfully to run the "smbldap-populate" script and verified that users and groups were created by running "pdbedit -Lw" and "net groupmap list". According to the output from "net rpc vampire" all accounts and

net rpc vampire - cannot login to migrated computer accounts
Hello experts, I've migrated our NT4 domain to sambe 3.0.20b/ldap backend with "net rpc vampire", and nearly everything works as expected. But one big problem remains: it's not possible to login to the domains member maschines now, because "the domain is not available at the moment" (translated from german). After the maschine rejoined the samba domain, login

Vampire Migrate NT4 to Samba-LDAP PDC. Access error
Hi, I'm a informatics engineering student and I am working on a factory placement which consists of migrating an NT4 based network upon Red Hat Linux AS 3. I took the manual from www.samba.org <http://www.samba.org/> and adapted the variables as suitable for my case. The only one moment where I cannot carry on anymore is when I am supposed to use net rpc vampire on the PDC. Here is

vampire: account mapping strangeness
I am testing samba 3.0's net rpc vampire tool and am getting strange results... after I import the account info, the samba usernames seem to be mapping to hardcoded unix uid #'s instead of account names. For example: # pdbedit -u jah000 idmap uid range missing or invalid idmap will be unable to map foreign SIDs idmap gid range missing or invalid idmap will be unable to map foreign SIDs

Vampire and spaces
Hi all. I'm having another go at using the vampire functionality to move our NT4 domain to samba. I've hit the same problem as 3 years ago - spaces in names ( group names for us ). I believe there are some useradd scripts floating around that deal with this, but I can't find them ( spent 1/2 an hour on google, honest ). Does anyone have one handy? How about adding scripts like

Vampire and Capital Letters
I find Linux to be a nightmare if usernames have capital letters. Some old Windows PDCs that we are vampiring have usernames with capital letters. AFAIK you can't change a windows username Is there a way of telling the vampire to make all usernames lowercase as it imports them? Can I use pdbedit or any other tool to make them lowercase? At the moment I am changing /etc/passwd and the

Is the net rpc vampire at all destructive to a NT4 PDC?
Reading through the Samba3 -By Example guide and I'm confused with the statement section 9.2 http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html#id2594565 about accessing the SAM and Security sections of the registry will render the PDC non operable. Its clear from the text if you go and edit the registry(regedit etc..) so you can read the entries your PDC will not work.
