Turkish character support?
Dear samba team,
The work you managed to is great! We replaced our old system(don't want to mention the name!) with samba to share our productivity. Only thing we sttruggle every time is Turkish (iso-8859 and cp857) character support. We choose the codepages in kernel config (default nls option=iso-8859 & cp=587) and rebuild it, but things never change. Is there any opportunity for

Tuýrkish Character Set
Hello,
I am new to this list. I have (and all Trukish users of Samba) trouble with
Turkish charactes (iso8859-9)with Samba. I saw some character definition tables
in charcnv.o (in sources). I couldn't understand the logic. A part of the table
for iso8859-2 is
/* MSDOS Code Page 852 -> ISO-8859-2 */
update_map("\241\244\242\364\243\235\244\317\245\225\246\227\247\365");

InvalidArgumentError throw using Turkish stemmer and posting text "'leri"
Hi all,
I've come across a very strange bug with Xapian 1.0.9.0 and the Turkish
query parser when trying to index a string (as posting) that looks like
this: "...bir araya getiren CD'leri son teknolojiyle piyasaya...". The
actual offending bit of the string is: 'leri
It throws the message I have shown below. The real annoyance is that I can't
seem to catch it because it

Spreadsheet gem character encoding
Hi everybody
I''am working on a Rails app (using utf-8) in which I use the Spreadsheet
gem to generate Excel files (.xls in my case).
I ran into some issues when trying to write foreign characters to the
generated Excel-File.
The solution I found so far is to use Iconv like this:
Iconv.conv(''ISO-8859-9'', ''utf-8'', some_string)
This works fine with for

TR: File system error (1026) - Win98 FR&EN and extended character s
This issue might interest you, because it solves filenaming
incompatibilities between Windows (in different languages), and Samba. In
fact, the problem is in Windows, and not in Samba (surprising, isn't it ?
;-)
By the way, thanks to you for your documentation, which helped me a lot
resolving this issue.
Regards, Christopher

Filenames with "special" characters (äöü€¶) on SMB share of Linkstation HD-HLAN250
Hello!
I've got a Buffalo Linkstation HD-HLAN250. This is a consumer
NAS device, which makes the built-in HD accessible via SMB
and FTP. On that system, some sort of Linux with some sort
of Samba is running.
I'm now trying to create filenames with special characters (ie.
non-ASCII chars) in it. For example "bl?der name" (means
"stupid name").

Codepage inconsistencies
Hello.
I'm having a lot of trouble trying to mount a share
from a NT4.0 (US_english) machine using samba-2.2.8a.
When I mount the share using samba, somehow the '?' and '?'
characters are displayed as 'o' and 'a'.
(other western chars such as ?,?,?,?,etc are ok, I have problems
only with '?' and '?').
It's interesting to note that:

Filename character translation
Hi,
I came across the problem with rsync-2.5.5 on Cygwin/Win2K while rsyncing
with filenames which have 'strange' (non latin-1) characters in filenames.
The problem is that filenames on Windows system are coded (in our case) in
codepage 852, while server (Linux system) has filename coding according to
ISO-8859-2. This two are not fully compatible, causing rsync to simply skip
copying some

Characters
Hi,
I have this Samba server.
I'm from Portugal, so my users give names to their files containig
characters like ?, ? , ?, etc.
>From the Windows point of view, everything is ok, but in the Linux
filesystem, those characters became a real mess.
The problem is that i need to record CDs directly on the server, and i
have a good deal of file and directory names all messed up.

codepage & character set
Hi,
I migrated files from an existing NT fileserver to a new samba server.
Unfortunately I did not make my homework properly and forget to set
"codepage" and "character set" in the global section. Bit this was necessary
for the
f#*?$? German 'Umlaute' like ? ,? ,?.
Now my dilemma is the following:
-Files that I moved are shown in Unix correctly with ?,? etc.

dotless i problem samba3 - win98
Hello,
I try samba 3.0.2a with Mandrake 10 Official release.
It works pretty well but one exception, "dotless i", a Turkish
character. The other Turkish characters works.
If any filename contains dotless i, this file/directory is inaccessible
from win98 clients.
I setup with Turkish locale. And i run samba with "export LC_ALL=C".
Otherwise it runs, but doesn't share
