Zhone Zplex 10 units
Mine has been working well, but the only problem is that it doesn't
support callerid (from the POTS side).

Preview Samba-3 by Example book
Hi All,
I know there has been a lot of interest in John Terpstra's upcoming book,
"Samba-3 by Example: Practical Exercises to Successful Deployment." The book
is scheduled to print end of March and can be found at local bookstores by
early April.
In the meantime, John will be giving a talk at the BYU UNIX User's Group
tomorrow, Thursday, February 19th at 8PM, where he will be

Out of memory need to restart system - Probably OT
Please specify the Samba version you are running - winbindd in 2.2.2 had a
*big* memory leak which would certainly eat all your memory over three days
on a moderately busy server. The more work winbindd does the more memory it
chews - which might explain the end of day incidents.
Try using 'M' in Top to get an idea of who is eating the memory.

How to assign Administrator's rights?
Most of my users (unfortunately me included) need to use a bloated,
badly designed piece of sh^Hoftware that only works with administrator's
rights (I won't say names but it's from a big german company strongly
pushing for software patents).
How can I assign those users Administrator's rights without phisically
going to each machine?
I cold put them in the 'Domain

RE Network UPS Tools - ID string
Hi John,
I've forwarded your info to the nut development list, and to Carlos who's
in charge of the megatec driver.
This one, which is only available in the subversion development tree,
and soon in 2.0.4, will replace the fentonups driver.
So you're encouraged to test it and report back.

SAMBA / LDAP / Domain Password change problem
I have our Samba server mostly working, however it will not allow me to
change the password on the client desktop or via USRMGR. The error
message we are getting is "the system cannot change your password now
because the domain TOPC is not available". USRMGR reports "Could no find
domain controller for this domain"
Everything is authenticating properly. Any ideas?

Asterisk not logging originating IP of a brute force attack
Why do attacks from the Internet get shown in the Asterisk logs with
myAsteriskServerIP instead of the attacker's IP?! Really useful for
blocking them, that is... Example:
[Mar 6 00:00:00] NOTICE[1926] chan_sip.c: Failed to authenticate user
5550000<sip:5550000 at myAsteriskServerIP>;tag=ab8537ae
(I replaced our IP address with myAsteriskServerIP. The attacks are not

Initial samba + ldap howto
A couple of days ago I decided that I needed a samba and ldap
setup. After reading the samba mailing list , specifically the
thread "Re: [Samba] Samba and LDAP backend - howto docs problems?"
I decided to buy the Official Samba-3 HowTo and Reference guide",
(the Samba-3 By Example mentioned in that thread wasn't available
in my bookstore and they could't order it for me too)

Is there a way?
Is there a way to make clients not see "hidden" shares? Like we have an
"I:" drive, but it's actually a "Common-Share"...
Thoughts?

smbclient to access limited networks?
I am new to this ML and am sorry if this question has been answered
already.
I have a firewall router running Linux having two Ethernet ports (i.e.
access to two networks) for INTRANET and INTERNET. This firewall needs
to run smbclient to access a share on a Win2K host in the INTRANET.
Looking into the Linux kernel message log, I found smbclient is

AMAFlags always"Documentation" (or 3 in astcdr mysql) even after Set(CDR(amaflags)=bill) or SetAMAFlags(bill)
Is anyone out there using AMAFlags? I'd like to set this field as a
marker to distinguish different types of calls in CDRs, but can't seem
to make it respond to the documented commands Set(CDR(amaflags)=bill) or
SetAMAFlags(bill).
I've googled this issue, seen others have had this problem with IAX,
with different DB drivers for CDR records, etc. I'm using SIP and LOCAL

AMAFlags always"Documentation" (or 3 inastcdrmysql) even after Set(CDR(amaflags)=bill) or SetAMAFlags(bill)
Hi Folks,
I figured out how to get the AMAFlags set correctly! It was not documented anywhere I could find, and I grepped through the source code trying to track through the different function calls etc. all to no avail.
But... if you note in the sample.call file, they show how to do Set(CDR(userfield|r)=whatever. I tried adding this "|r" piece into amaflags, like so:

language inconsistency puzzle (in the tradition of Bill V enables (Hi Bill) puzzle "what is x")
R allows you to dynamically extend a vector by assigning past the end. So if
a has length 10, then assigning to a[11] creates also a[11] with value
a2[11] NA. So a is now length 11, while a2 is still length 10. So the
occurrence of a[11] has a different meaning on the assigned-to side than on
the assigned-from side. E.g.
>a <- rep(1,10)
>b <- 11
>a2 <- a
>a[b] <- a2[b]

Best way to bill through LinkPoint? Is ActiveMerchant solid?
I need to set up a site to charge cards through LinkPoint. I did some
searching to see what was available, and saw that Shopify uses
ActiveMerchant. I saw that it hasn''t been touched in several months,
though perhaps that''s simply because it hasn''t needed any changes.
Just wondering what''s the best way to go about this.
Thanks for any info.
