winbindd will not connect to samba pdc
I'm trying to migrate to a Samba PDC from an NT PDC. Right now I'm
testing whether a Samba member server can effectively grab user account
info from a Samba PDC.
Both the PDC and the member server are vanilla, no-frills Redhat 9
machines, the PDC is running Samba 3.0.9 and the member is running
3.0.11. I've followed the instructions in the Samba HOWTO for setting
up winbindd, that

Snap Server fails to join Samba PDC Domain
I have a Snap Server which runs some imbedded version of Samba (I'm
thinking 3.X). I'm try to migrate from an NT PDC to a Samba 3.0.9 PDC
(running on FreeBSD 4.10).
The migration is mostly successful -- all the profiles have been moved,
client authentication works great, password changes work fine, etc.
My major problem is that the Snap Server fails to find the Samba PDC.
However, if I

3.6.0: smbclient can't access a NT4 share
Hi,
I upgraded to 3.6.0, but since that time, I can't connect to a share on a NT4
Wks host any more:
# /usr/bin/smbclient //molek-04/lightcycler -U administrator
protocol negotiation failed: NT_STATUS_IO_TIMEOUT
I thought it could be something with 'client ntlmv2 auth", what is 'yes' since
that version. But even if I switch it to 'no' it's the same.

Disable winbindd authentication while keep winbindd running
Hello
I have samba 3.0.13 running in ADS mode. For some specific reason I want
to disable winbindd authentication while I want winbindd keep running.
If I understood right - option "auth methods" would help to do that. But
I am not sure if this will not break existing services :
auth methods = guest sam
All users that authenticate are created locally in /etc/passwd file.
Can anybody

winbindd: wins, bcast and subnets and ways to get across those
I run two samba servers in a pure windows 2000 environment. I
have two subnets: A server subnet and a client subnet, and one
samba server stands in each one of them.
My windows admins tell me that they do not run a wins server or a
pdc-emulator on their machines. I run winbind successfully in the
server subnet but fail to do so in the client subnet.
the server subnet samba server finds the

winbindd freezes on name requests
We're running samba-winbind-3.2.0-22.1 on an openSUSE 11.0 system. But we have the problem that winbindd freezes when commands request (many) names to UID/GIDs mapped from SIDs (e.g. id or mc).
id -g username
--> OK (reports gid of primary group)
id -n -g username
--> OK (reports name of primary group)
id -G username
--> OK (reports gids of 267 groups)

Converting local unix users to winbindd
I've got a samba server with about 800 users that is part of a NT domain, and is set to security=server (pointing to a PDC for auth). The samba server was setup years ago before winbindd. I'd like to convert all the local unix users(all of which are really domain users) to use winbindd. Does anyone know of a document that describes the necessary steps to do this(ie - changing file

winbindd, AD and 'w'
Good day
I've got a very strange problem with AD and winbindd.
What I'm trying to do is to let AD users to login into freebsd box
(using pam_winbindd).
I've joined domain successfully, everything works perfectly but
several users cannot login.
Login fails for ALL users who have 'w' in their samAccountNames, and
ONLY for them.
wbinfo -n swan gives:

winbindd... PANIC: could not fetch our SID, did we join?
Hi,
I have installed samba on my freebsd machine which is connected to my router and I am trying to access the harddrive of the freebsd machine with this winxp machine, which is also connected to the router (by wireless connection).
I also have swat enabled and I can initiate nmbd and smbd, however winbindd will not run.
When I try to run winbindd from the freebsd command line like so:

Multiple instances of winbindd
Hi,
I'm trying to set up a system where two physical machines are clustered and
have virtual hosts (two, at the moment) that can fail over between the two.
Each virtual host serves their own samba shares which means that in the case
where both virtual hosts run on the same machine there are two active samba
instances. Each listens to their own IP-address, of course.
The samba installations

that this issue is not solved.

winbindd + getent group = segfault
Hi,
This happens with Debian 2.2.2 packages as well as self compiled
version.
getent passwd works, as does wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g. I can see
all groups and users with those. However if I run winbindd -i
and do getent group, I see it finding domains and their sids
find, then few times:

winbindd problems
Hi,
I am having problems with winbindd on a BDC but I am not sure where
the problem lies.
If I run `winbindd -n -i` on the BDC and watch the output from pdbdeit

acl and winbindd woes
Hello
We have got a samba PDC and BDC running openldap as a backend and it works
pretty well.
I set up another samba File-Server and joined the domain all right.
Also set up winbindd using the idmap facility via ldap.
On the File-Server when I do a
"wbinfo -n joe" I get
"S-1-5-21-1133090748-3639176701-2116357234-1062 User (1)"

"user 'root' does not exist" in winbindd.log after upgrade from 3.0.2a to 3.0.3
Dear list,
After the upgrade from 3.0.2a to 3.0.3 I see in my winbindd.log file all the time "user
'root' does not exist" messages.
I didn't get these messages with my 3.0.2a samba setup, but after the upgrade to
3.0.3 it is flooding my winbindd.log file, sometimes I get this message every minute in
my log file.
