Use the OpenSSH 3.6 uidswap.c for building 3.7 under IRIX
[resending with uidswap.c instead of uidwrap.c]
Once I got past the missing inet_ntoa.h weirdness, I ran into an sshd
that died a lot. It appears that IRIX doesn't like some of the extra
checks added between 1.23 and 1.24 of uidswap.c. Not sure if that
constitutes an IRIX bug or not, but helpfully this helps someone.

domain level authentication?
I'm trying to set up a samba server, such that 60 or so win 98 users can log
into the linux box and be plopped into their respective home directories on it.
I don't want them to be promted for passwords, I want the PDC, an NT box, to
take care that in such a wy that I do not need a smbpasswd file. I know almost
nothing about NT, but the server running works just fine, and will let people

oggenc adds severe distortion
Hi all,
I routinesly rips my CDs to WAV and then convert to ogg vorbis format
for use in my car and portable player. I don't usually notice anything
amiss, but on the last track of Mike Oldfield's "Music of the Spheres"
album ("Musica Universalis", at the very end crescendo), the converted
.ogg file exhibits terrible distortion (sounds like digital clipping).

static linking of /usr/sbin/tc?
Hello,
I am trying to revive an old linux server installation, which still has
libc5. Sadly, most current software does not compile anymore on this
system, including the tc utility. As with other tools (net-tools,
coreutils, procps etc.) I tried to compile and statically link
(LDFLAGS=-static) on a more recent linux machine and copy the static
binaries over to the old machine.
But no luck

Some paths on the remote server may require authentication.
If so then you will receive a password prompt when you con-
nect. You can avoid the password prompt by setting the
environment variable RSYNC_PASSWORD to the password you want
to use or using the --password-file option. This may be use-

2 questions about mle() /optim() function in stats4
Dear All,
There are two things about mle() that I wasn't so sure.
1) can mle() handle vector based parameter? say
ll<-function(theta=rep(1,20)){..............}
I tried such function, it worked for "optim" but not for "mle".
2) is there a general suggestion for the maximum number of parameters
allowed to use in mle() or optim()?
Thank you.

time grid for "survfit" Survival function outputs
Dear All,
Maybe it is a silly question. But I wasn't able to find it from manual
or R site search.
I was wondering what is the corresponding time axis for survival
function outputs in "survfit". I think it is "survfit(.......)$time",
but not 100% sure.
If it is, is it possible we could make survival function outputs on
the pre-specified time grid with fixed increment and

Hello
I was testing HTB using IPerf TCP traffic and the results were very good.
Until I tried to add some UDP traffic the results were a little strange.
this is my setup

tc class add dev eth1 parent 1:0 classid 1:1 htb rate 1mbit

Oops on tc-graph.pl of all things
It only makes a few calls to `tc`:
rebecca:~# grep TC /home/jasonb/src/tc-graph.pl
$BIN_TC="/sbin/tc";
my @qdisc=`$BIN_TC -d qdisc show dev $DEV`;
my @class=`$BIN_TC -d class show dev $DEV`;
@filter=`$BIN_TC -d filter show dev $DEV parent $parent`;
But something ultimately Oopses:

2.0.7: unsolicited oplock break reply
I've used
oplocks = no
for a long time now, because of the famous "oplock_break" error, but I
decided to give 2.0.7 a try.
I still get "oplock break" errors as before, but this time I got a new
error too:

oplock_break: receive_smb timed out after 30 seconds.

Apparently it seems to work but when I try to open a file to
convert it, TMPGEnc opens a popup telling that it cannot open the file
or the format is unsupported.
Since I'm trying to convert a sample file that TMPGEnc reads regularly
on a win box it seems that it can't open the file.
So I enabled dubugmsg for file and dosfs with the following command line:

incoherent oplock request/reply
Hello,
I'm running a samba 3.0.14a server in production on a fedora core 3 (kernel
2.6.9-1.667smp) with a least 250 clients (XP Pro SP2) (up to 400 sometimes).
A few days ago, a problem appeared with a soft that we are using for a long
time. (Petit Robert, a french dictionnary).
When someone launch the dictionnary, many clients are freezed when they try to

Unsolicited oplock breaks
Dear All,
we've been having some intermittent problems with students who's home directories are on a
Sun E450 running Samba 2.0.6. I'm not totally convinced that the problem is caused by the
server, but may be the network. However, I've had a look at the log.smb file and I'm seeing some
error messages that I've not come across before:

A correction. You either need to open the plotting device prior to the
simulation that includes your plotting commands and close it after the
simulation or have the name change dynamically in your simulation so that
the runs go in separate files.
An example of the first method would be
postscript(file="/where/to/put/file/filename.ps")
## your simulation commands

Questions on VFS modules (audit)
Hello,
I'm configuring Samba 3.0.6 on Debian stable, after using version 2.2.8a
for a while.
I have some questions on VFS modules, which could be summed up into a
single big question: is there any documentation about them, other than the
few paragaphs in the official howto?
Now for the single questions:
1. audit: its output goes into syslog, no options to change this, right?
And also no
