two subnets, one domain, several DCs?
The situation I've got is that I want to make one domain, and then use
it on several different subnets. I have 3 subnets, 10.1.x.x, 10.2 and
10.3, all physically remote, but connected by a frees/wan tunnel that is
working just fine. We also have working LDAP logins and all that is
fine. I have gotten as far as getting my domain going on LDAP within
one subnet, but now I'm trying

Co-existing domains
Hi,
Just to make sure : I can have the following domains on the same subnet
without interfering with each other. Right ?
Samba3 PDC : my_domain
Samba4 AD DC : ad01.example.com
I want to migrate from the first to the second.
Thanks,
Koenraad.

Two domains in the same subnetwork.
Hi, I have the following newbie question, it is possible have two (or more)
domains in the same IP
subnetwork (e.g. 192.168.10.0/24)?
I understand that is not possible have two PDC for the same domain in the
same subnetwork,
but I'm not sure what happens if we have two domains.
Thanks for your help.

Samba as BDC in NT domain
I have this problem: there is a subnet 192.168.6.0/24 and the gateway is
192.168.6.1 which has also another nic 172.21.13.123 which belongs to
subnet 172.21.13.0 where the PDC of NT-domain is. GW does NAT and it
causes that computers/users in subnet 192.168.6.0 cant logon to NT-domain.
Is it possible to put Samba in GW machine so that it can be a backup domain
controller in NT-domain and it uses

Domain master browser for multiple domains?
Hi,
As I understand it, for cross-subnet browsing to work, we need a domain
master for each workgroup/domain? This presents a problem since many
of our workgroups/domains are just a collection of Windows 95 machines
and so do not have a domain controller to be a domain master browser.
Can we make Samba be a domain master browser for multiple domains/work-
groups (the list of domains/workgroups

domain master list - cross subnet?
samba-3.0.10-1.4E on RHEL4-AS. I've got a test domain setup and working
just fine. Windows XP clients are authenticating just fine. The only
problem I have so far is my domain browser list is not correct. I can see
everything in my subnet fine, but can't see anything outside my subnet.
This is different than my NT4 domain, who's browse list shows me every

Cross-subnet browsing with multiple domains/workgroups
Hi,
I'm trying to set up browsing across subnets to provide an
'enterprise'-wide (sorry for the MS term ;-) browse list / Network
Neighbourhood.
I've read BROWSING.TXT, but I can't see how machines on different subnets
in different domains/workgroups sync up (using Samba, anyway).
On my local subnet, I've set up a clunky old Linux 386 (Samba 1.9.18p8)
as the browse

Trusted domain problem (maybe networking)
Hello,
I have spent the afternoon learning how to configure my routers to allow
directed-broadcast with an access list, so that I can allow two different
domains on different subnets to trust each other. Now I can do a broadcast
ping from either subnet to the other, and I can also do smbclient -L
<remote_pdc> and get the shares, from one side. From the other side I
cannot. Let me

Domain trust relationship Q
Hello All,
Is it possible for a domain server to be trusting of a PDC on
another subnet? I have 2 domains, foo and bar. I have set up a trust
account for bar on foo and
net rpc trustdom list produces:
Trusted domains list:
none
Trusting domains list:
FOO S-1-5-21-194374591-1744372652-1779375073
which seems OK.
I then issue:
net rpc trustdom establish BAR

Window can't see Linux share
I have tried every possible configuration suggestion I have found on the net,
but still can't get my windows PC's to see *nix shares (running Kubuntu
9.04 and Samba 3.3.2 with a Gadmin-Samba GUI 0.2.7) and Win2000 and WinXP.
The *nix box can see and use the shares from the various W-boxes, but not
visaa-versa. Here is my smb.conf:

Kickstart from tagged VLAN?
I've searched around but haven't found a definitive answer yet, is it possible to kickstart from a tagged VLAN? I found this bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=431915
But I can't find out how far the vlan support goes. I haven't found anything about it in any kickstart docs.
I have two tagged vlans:
Vlan 100 - server subnet
Vlan 101 - backup subnet

Logging on to the network - one samba, two subnets.
Hi.
I have Samba set up to serve W95 PCs. Kids "log in to the
network" using their Unix password. Students get their
Unix home dir mounted as network drive X: when login is
successful.
This all happens on IP subnet 192.168.1.1/24
So far, so good.
We are thinking about adding another IP subnet - say
192.168.2.1/24. Of course, the two subnets will be
connected with a router. It

Having problems connecting
Parke,
Thank you for your suggestion, but I am already using those subnet settings.
And how could they be wrong if the two peers start communicating at some point without changing the settings?

cross-subnet domain join issue
I am one hurdle away from finishing my test PDC with ldap and password
sync. Its been a hair raising effort... and if I can solve this one
issue, we'll be ready to kick our Windows PDC out the window.
When I attempt to initially join the domain ( LOGOS ) from a win2K
client residing on a different subnet, I get the following:

Question about samba domains PDC migration and browsing slowly
Hello list,
Currently, we are migrating from samba 3.0 PDC [without LDAP as auth
backend] domain named A to a new samba 3.0 PDC [ with LDAP as auth backend
and a new sid and name ]. The 2 domains are on the same network and we are
migrating host by host.
Like both of domain controllers (A and B) wants to be the browser master,
browsing from windows explorer on the net is slow (I think because a

NT4 to Samba Migration and Trusted Domains
Well, I'm attempting to migrate my old NT4-based domain to Samba3. I've
got Samba set up with an LDAP backend, I've extended my NDS schema, and
I've got users in this new domain set up successfully and authenticating.
I've decided that the best, most seamless way to migrate my domain is to
create a new domain which will run alongside the old domain. A

Can a router be a local master browser in a NT domain?
Can a router between two subnets (call it A and B) be the local master
browser of the one subnet (net A) in a NT domain, when the Domain Master
Browser (as well as PDC and BDC) are located in the other subnet (B)?
Will say, does the Domain Master Browser of a NT domain accept a Local
Master Browser in the same subnet (as the router is accessed from B via
the interface ethB)?

Issue joining a PC to a Samba domain from a subnet other the one that Samba PDC
Hello,
Thanks in advance for taking the time to look at this issue. We are
currently experiencing an issue with PC's not being able to join a Samba PDC
controlled domain when the PC's are located outside of the subnet that the
Samba PDC is part of. The PC's are located in the same physical building as
the PDC, connecting over a Cisco VLAN to the Samba PDC subnet. For example,
