Help with permissions when moving data between Windows and Samba.
Hello list
Samba-3.0.8 on Fedora-Core3.
I am currently testing Samba as a member server of an AD domain and using
winbind for user resolution.
Samba is joined to the AD domain and can I can write files as the
"domain\user" on a test share.
This server is to be used as an archive storage area so I need to move data
from existing Windows 2000 server's to the Samba share while

Promise FastTrak TX2000
Does anyone have this card working in hardware RAID mode? I can see the
individual ATA drivers when booting. The promise site has drivers for
Redhat 7.3,8 and 9, but nothing for higher.
I see the source code, and can build the module, but I need it loaded at
boot time.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

SAMBA ADS to NIS mapping
I am working in an environment with an HP-UX NIS that my Red Hat ES 4.x
system is using for Unix access controls.
My Red Hat system is serving as an NFS server for the HP-UX users who also
could be Windows users coming from a Windows Server 2003 active directory.
I have tested some configurations of SAMBA using winbind, but I don't get
the results I want. What happens when using winbind

Winbindd as NIS replacement in heterogen environement
Hi all
We have the following environement:
Microsoft ADS for Windows Users, NIS for Un*x Users.
Samba 3.x Fileservers.
Win2k/XP Clients which use CIFS to connect to the Fileserver.
FreeBSD/Linux Clients which use NFS to connect to the Fileserver.
For the moment, Windows User authenticate against the ADS and Un*x users
authenticate against a NIS Server. Everything runs fine.
But we would like

How to keep the same id and gid for this 1000 users ?
What's happen with nfs linux server and acess with gid and/id ?

LDAP-based NIS server .vs. NIS migration to LDAP?
Greetings!
I tried to post this question to openldap group but somehow my post never
showed up there.
Anyway, I built PDC using Samba3 and OPENLDAP and now like to integrade NIS
service to it. I searched the net there are quite a few guides on how to
replace NIS with LDAP.
However, in our environment, we have almost all sorts of Unix platforms,
e.g. Linux (mainly Redhat), Solaris, HPUX, AIX,

Winbind + NIS
Hi,
I'm trying to integrate a linux-network with a Nt-network. My PDC is Nt, so i got a linuxbox running a samba+winbind and it's running perfect. Now i got another linuxbox and installed a nis client and put the nis server in the samba server, only that the nis client doesn't see the Nt users. My question is: Is there a way that i can get to my nis client see the Nt users (via

coordinated NIS and LDAP servers
Hello listmates,
We are currently running NIS for authentication but would like to
migrate to LDAP. Thing is, though, that some of the machines that
authenticate via NIS are so old I'd rather not even touch them.
Hence the question - is there a good way to have an NIS server for
user authentication that is a mirror image of an LDAP server, with a
proviso that an update introduced there is

NIS authentication on samba
Hello all,
I am currently using NIS for authentication with clear text
passwords. We would like to move to password encryption. Any ideas
whether NIS would support encrypted password on samba 3.X ? if not what
would be my other options.

Can a Unix box act as Samba server as well as a NIS server?
Hello,
I need help -
1. What should be the configuration of nsswitch.conf
file when I want to make a Unix box both PDC (by
configuring Samba as PDC) as well a NIS server.
2. what should be the value of following parameters in
nsswitch.conf file?
a) passwd = nis files
group = nis files
or
b) passwd = nis [NOTFOUND=return] files
group = nis [NOTFOUND=return]

MD5 and NIS
Does anybody know whether it is possible to enable MD5 passwords for NIS and
local passwords? Is it just a matter of running
authconfig --enablemd5
and new passwords will use MD5 and old ones will still work?
Of course using LDAP might be a "better" solution (if it was easy to
install).
I've tried googling and didn't get any useful answers...

Samba with NIS Authentication
I have a huge UNIX network. I want to deploy a Samba server using NIS
Authentication mechanism for the growing number of windows machines.
What are the pros and cons of using NIS authentication with Samba?
Also any pointer/docs in setting up Samba with NIS Authentication. I
am pretty much familiar in setting up Samba using the default
smbpasswd authentication.
Thanks in advance

Attachment. who can I best report this to for forensis?
Johan B, please let it through+ The headers are needed.
I live in the Netherlands, where the police contacts for this sort of
thing are grey and unknown to me.
The Metropolitan Police (London only) in England is 100% on the ball,
but they're under resourced and I don't live in their "manor" (London
slang for area).
I'd like to push it out to as powerful an organization

User defined covariate structure.
I am trying to use nlme but instead of using one of the ?identity? variance or
covariance matrixes such as compsymm or ar1. Instead I want the covariance
matrix to be represented in the following manor. Is it possible to define my
own covariance matrix?
I have search and found papers saying I can define my own covariance matrixes
and own correlation structures. Said use corstruct but not sure
