Hello! Because I have the strangest problems at one of my customers, I want to ask a few questions on what I could do to make his life easier... Server: Samba 2.5.x on SuSE 8.1 (that samba which comes with SuSE 8.1) Password-Encryption=NO PDC-Controller: NONE This is a simple workgroup LAN. There is also one Windows NT4.0 Server there, running since some years.

Help needed! tricky browsing configuration and BUG_REPORT
hi there, can please anybody help me solve my little problem ? I have about a dozen separated networks connected to my local lan via isdn dial-up (on-demand). I am running linux kernel 2.0.36 and samba 2.0.0 (2.0.2 doesn't work either). There is a linux-box running samba 2.0.0 connected to every remote network. The Clients are always Win95/Win98/WinNT. Local browsing seems to work perfectly.

Samba 2.0.3 with NT PDC as password server
Hie all, I've got a Linux box set up as file server with Samba 2.0.3 and Kernel 2.2.2. The Linux box successfully joined the domain of the NT 4 PDC. I set in the smb.conf security=server, in order to make my NT PDC checking all passwords and users access. But what should I do on my Linux box to make samba know that user bob on Linux is user BobThomas on NT ? Well, do I have to create 1

Samba / NT / Win98 and Browsing
Hey all, Our scenario is hopefully quite simple. A client has a MS Small Business Server and about 6-8 Win98 clients. There are also two SCO v5 boxes, which are running samba 2.0.3 (the precompiled version). From the NT box, we can see the SCO servers, but from the Win98 boxes, the SCO servers are not visible. Samba is configured to register its name with the NT WINS server, and I'd

XP Failure to Join Domain
I?m using SAMBA 3.0.4-6.3E as a PDC. I have Win98, WinNT4 and Win2000 clients successfully joined to the domain. But I can?t get an XP box to join. The XP machine can ?see? shares on the SAMBA PDC but strangely does not show up in network neighbourhood. You can find it if you search for it. The PDC is just using smbpasswd, no LDAP The machine add line in my smb.conf is as follows..... add

NT password prompting?/Net. nbhd?
Hi, I am a SysAdmin new to Samba. Recently I installed Samba 2.0.5 on Solaris and IRIX to access user homes from NT. I have two problems. Samba seems to be working fine with M$Win98 but with NT, Network neighbourhood doesn't show the two samba servers even though I can see them with "net view" command and also map the shares to drive letters. How do I make my Samba servers appear

Windows NT PDC and Samba PDC cross subnet browsing?
Hello, I have been searching for answers now more then a week, but I cannot find a proper solution. Please help me with this: Scenario: Two differnet subnetted networks (1 and 2) connected by a cipe tunnel between two linux Samba boxes over the internet. Re: Windows NT PDC and Samba PDC cross subnet browsing? (solved)
Hi everyone, I think I solved it: - I installed WINS on both sides on the PDC's (Samba on the one end, NT on the other). - On both subnets the clients are configured by dhcp to use their own PDC's WINS as their primairy WINS server and the WINS on the remote PDC as their "secondairy" WINS server. - TCPIP configuration on the Windows NT PDC configured to use it's own WINS

Access Linux PC from other windows machines in the WorkGroup
Dear Sir, I want to access my Linux shared folder from other windows PC's in the same work group. I have installed TurboLinux7.0 in my PC. It has got samba server shipped with it. I made settings in the /etc/smb.conf file. Now we can see my machine from the network neighbourhood of other machines in the workgroup. But when we try to access the linux PC from other windows machine, it gives the

Mounting a workgroup or machine
Hi there, Is it possible to allocate a portion of your file system to act like Network Neighbourhood on Windows? For example, I'd like to mount my work group on /mnt/samba so that I can access files by going to /mnt/samba/<host>/<share>/foo/bar.txt Right now I'm accomplishing this with a python script that gets a list of hosts on the workgroup and a list of shares per host

Browsing - NT/Windows 2000
Hi All, I am currently experiencing an unusual symptom some of you might be able to help me with. Currently I have two Windows based servers. The first is a Windows 2000 server upgrade of the original NT PDC. The second is the original NT BDC. The two servers running Samba 2.0.6 are both HP-UX 10.20. Historically, the BDC was always used for authentication Samba-wise as the password server,

NT network neighbourhood
Hi, I am a system administrator but new to Samba. We bought new PCs with NT service pack 4 and I am trying to configure Samba(2.0.x) so that users can access their UNIX(Solaris/IRIX) files from NT. I have two kinds of problems. Things seems to be perfect when I try this with Win98 but with NT, I can't see the UNIX server from Network Neighbourhood. But "net view" shows all the

My Workgroup eventually disappears when I enable SAMBA!
When I enable Samba on my Linux box, the workgroup "Workgroup" eventually disappears from site in both the GUI "Network Neighbourhood" and at the W2000 cmd line "net view". It takes a little while for this to happen, and initially it works well. The Linux Box information can be found at the url below. But a short description of the setup is as follows: * Network is

Access denied from NT
Hi, I have a problem in accessing samba server from NT network neighbourhood. I can see the samba server icon on neighbourhood. But while trying to access then it's asking for user name & passowrd. I am not using local user & password from unix box rather it should be authenticated from NT PDC and accordingly I have modified the smb.conf file. Here is the sample of that. 103 flara %

Browse lists from other workgroups across subnets
I have problems to get browse lists from other workgroups across subnets. On win95 network neighbourhood I have a complete list form all computers in the same workgroup (including computers located on an other subnet) and a workgroup list. But if I try to look at the computers on an other workgroup I get an error message: workgroup not available. The subnet has an samba server (2.0.3) configured
