ZFS Boot for Solaris SPARC
Hi, Searching this alias I can find a number of guides and scripts that describe the configuration of Solaris to boot from a ZFS rootpool. However, these guides appear to be Solaris 10 x86 specific. Is the creation of a ZFS boot disk available for Solaris SPARC ? If so, could you point me in the direction of where I can obtain details of this new feature from. Thanks and Regards, Paul. PS:

str and class
In previous versions of the gnm package, the terms component of "gnm" objects had a "classID" attribute. This caused problems when used with str as the following simple example illustrates: > x <- 1 > attr(x, "classID") <- "type1" > str(x) Class 'type1' Class 'type1' Class 'type1' Class 'type1' Class

INETD Question.
I'm currently running version 2.0.7 of samba(CIFS9000). I have HPUX 11.x installed on the samba server. When I try to run this from inetd it doesn't work. I can run a startup script that runs the smbd as a daemon and it works fine. But if I try to run it from inetd it won't start. The previous version of Samba 1.9.18p10 that I had on this server worked fine. Is this a bug in

link to a vignette/overview document in .Rd file?
Is there a reliable way to link to a vignette or other overview document, which has been included in the "inst/doc" directory of a source package, within a package help file in Rd format? or maybe link to an index of such documents? Incorrect fix for PR#9316: Cook's Distance & plot.lm
Bug PR#9316 noted an inconsistency between the Cook's distance contours on plot.lm(x, which = 5) and the values given by cooks.distance(x) -- as shown in plot.lm(x, which = 4) -- for glms: http://bugs.r-project.org/cgi-bin/R/Analyses-fixed?id=9316;user=guest;selectid=9316 The suggested fix was to modify the contour levels by a dispersion factor, implemented as follows: dispersion <-

Cook's Distance in GLM (PR#9316)
Well I suppose a warning's not going to hurt. Even in a case like the occupationalStatus example where you know some points have been fitted exactly, it might be useful to be reminded that the standardised residuals for these points are then NaN and cannot be displayed. Of course when you don't know in advance that this issue will arise, there is even more reason to give a warning.

gsub: replacing double backslashes with single backslash
Hello everybody, this might be a trivial question, but I have been unable to find this using Google. I am trying to replace double backslashes with single backslashes using gsub. There seems to be some unexpected behaviour with regards to the replacement string "\\". The following example uses the string C:\\ which should be converted to C:\ . > gsub("\\\\",

Using matprod from array.c
Hi, I was wondering if I could use the matprod function from array.c in my own C routine. I tried the following as a test /* my_matprod.c */ # include <Rinternals.h> /* for REAL, SEXP etc */ # include <R_ext/Applic.h> /* array.c says need for dgemm */ /* following copied from array.c */ static void matprod(double *x, int nrx, int ncx, double *y, int nry, int ncy, double *z)

Re: [R-SIG-Mac] NaN and linear algebra
No, blas/veclib is tested, so aprt this extreme case you should report some other more commonly used cases in which something fails on OS X. This will help us to work it out. As said, I'll try some tests without using veclib and let you know. I've fowarded this mail to r-devel, which seems to be the right place, so for future msg on the subject please use r-devel. stefano On

R with ATLAS avoids Linux cpu affinity
Hi all, I have a problem with cpu affinity in my R-2.11.1 installation compiled against ATLAS running on a Linux (Ubuntu 10.04) cluster under GridEngine. I wish to use Grid Engine's core binding feature to bind user processes into the number of cores they request on the cluster, thus preventing badly behaved multi-threaded libraries from consuming more cores than requested. An example of

storage.mode, C data types and speed
Hi, I am trying to speed up part of an algorithm in which certain columns of a large matrix (X) are replaced by the element-wise product of a matrix (M) and a vector (v). In R, the code might be X[, ind] <- M * v I have written a small C routine to do this for me, but the timing depends on how I define the storage.mode of the objects in R and the data types in C, in a way which I don't

rsync failing with return code 13
Hi there, I'm running rsync on an nslu2 (using nslu2-linux) and it keeps failing with return code 13. The man page doesn't give a good description of what this means ("Errors with program diagnostics") so could someone give me a clue. as to what diagnostics rsync is running and reasons why they might be failing? The only magic to note is the machine only has 32MB of ram so low

Loading of namespace on load of .Rdata (was strange behaviour of load)
Last week Giovanni Parrinello posted a message asking why various packages were loaded when he loaded an .Rdata file. Brian Ripley replied saying he thought it was because the saved workspace contained a reference to the namespace of ipred. (Correspondence copied below). This begs the question: how did the reference to the namespace of ipred come to be in the .Rdata file? Brian did say it is

domain trusts in samba3 with openLDAP
Greetings Sambistas! I can't seem to get domain trusts to work in both directions. Details follow. I have a network running many OSes on four geographically separate sites with an OpenLDAP authentication backbone. Desktops are windows XP authenticating to samba 3.0.25b servers which in turn are configured to use LDAP. Our net has been running samba in various flavors and versions for

Given up on Fedora Ubuntu is 1000-folder simpler
I spent several days (at least 20 hours) tying to get Fedora 11 Samba server going. I consulted every resource that I knew including this list. When I discovered that Fedora 11 Samba could be browsed immediately upon installation, and a simple reboot disabled this, I gave up. I decided to try Ubuntu. After intallation it took only five minutes of editing the smb.conf file to make my share fully

GLM coefficients
Dear all, After running a glm, I use the summary ( ) function to extract its coefficients and related statistics for further use. Unfortunately, the screen only displays a small (last) part of the results. I tried to overcome the problem by creating/saving an object "coef" for coefficients of the model and export/save it e.g. as a cvs document. While I succed with this operatiion, I do
