When to restart samba
If I understand correctly, in order to have the smb.conf file applied you need to restart smbd. Is "service smbd reload" sufficient (which does a "killproc smbd -HUP")? Will this kill any active connections to samba resources causing user disruption? Or is this a seamless process that can be carried out midday? I ask because if I need to kill all user connections to

Multiple Linux instances on the same box - dual/triple/etc boot ?
Hi List; I have a new dev server. As an independent consultant I want to maximize it's use. Some of my clients use RedHat/CentOS 64 bit, others Redhat/CentOS 32bit, some are even using Fedora and Debian. Here's my thought: I'd like to install each OS/version into it's own space on the disk. I'm thinking all I have to do is install one OS (say CentOS 64bit) and

Option configure
Just backported 4.4.5 from debian sid to jessie. samba.service is masked there. If running as an fileserver the services are started via smbd.service,nmbd.service, winbind.service. There is an samba-ad-dc script which is masked by default. To get the ad-dc up and running with systemd one has to unmask samba-ad-dc.service and mask smbd.service,nmbd.service, winbind.service. This is the

idmap limit?
Hi, we are running a file server as member server of a windows 2012 domain. Now we are facing the problem, that some UIDs are not mapped to the user names by the running winbindd process. This results in "nobody" usernames for nfs shares mounted by other clients. When doing an "ls -l" in the homes directory on the member server (file server), the list looks like:

Samba domain member server does not see list of users from PDC
Hi, I have some problems with the following setup: DOM1 (PDC) -> DOM2 (PDC) <->DOM2(Member server) The users and groups from DOM1 (MS WinNT4 domain) are nicely visible on Samba PDC (DOM2) with established trust, but domain member server in DOM2 domain does not show any users from the DOM1 domain (only users from DOM2 are visible), BUT!! users from DOM1 can login to it and access shares

Domain trusts (Again)
I hope someone can answer this since my other emails have gone unanswered. I am using Samba 3.0.7 on both machines and am using LDAP. I believe that the trusts are working but I am still having a slight problem. I guess we'll use DOM1 and DOM2 for the domain names. DOM2 is trusting DOM1. If a DOM1 user tries to locally login to a DOM1 computer, it gives a "System could not log you

Using samba on two domains
Hello all, We've been using samba version 3.0.4 on RH9 with success for quite a while now for shares on our domain (DOM1). Since this machine will have to be available in the near future in another domain (DOM2) as a webserver, and limited fileserver, another network interface has been added for the NIC. When browsing the shares from a WIN98SE computer in DOM2, we are able to see the
