joining v2x member to v3x pdc
Hello NG, I want to add a samba v2.2.12 system as a member server to my domain managed by a samba v3.0.3 pdc. Is this possible? It's not as easy as joining a samba >v3.0.x system. My problem is, that I can't update the system to v3 right now. The users are all stored in a ldap-directory which I'm able to access onto the system using the 'id'-cmd. The system has also

CHANGE REQUEST: Move config files out of main $sysconfdir
Currently, dovecot places it's config files in $sysconfdir In Makefile.am, this is defines as: confdir = $(sysconfdir) It would be far more friendly to an already overloaded /etc/ directory, and easier to locate the files, to follow the now-common convention and place files in $sysconfdir / dovecot / ... on most systems this would mean: /etc/dovecot/ If there is only a dovecot.conf, it

sysconfdir depreacted
The purpose of any build scripts --sysconfdir is to tell the configuration to build in a path for its binaries configuration file(s). Dovecot 2.1.3, seems to insist that that directory is now /etc/dovecot/ ignoring --sysconfdir=/etc as in 1.2.x and previous majors before that, is this a bug? if not, then I see no point of sysconfdir any more and it should be removed, if dovecot deliberately

sysconfdir
I compiled samba 3.0.0 with the following configure options: ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc/samba --with-privatedir=/etc/ samba/private --with-ldap --with-ads --with-krb5=/usr --with-smbmount --without-sys-quotas The problem is that it seems to disregard the sysconfdir param and looks for the smb.conf file in /usr/lib/. Any help? Thanks Justin

Crashing in Get_Pwnam_internals
I have two samba servers with pretty much identical setups (same smb.conf, smbd, winbindd, libnss_winbind.so binaries), joined to the same domain, one of which works, one doesn't. I'm seeing smbd crashing when I try to connect to the problem server with the following information in the logs. OS is Solaris 10 update 5 samba is a repository snapshot that Volker pointed me at to resolve an

I'm using syslinux 4.04 with dynamically generated menus configuration based on info found in various web pages. I'm doing my testing using a vCetner 4.10 Vmware virtual machine. This works some of the time, but not always. I just copied the prebuilt modules from the syslinux 4.04 distribution for gpxelinx.0, menu.c32, reboot.c32, and pxelinux.0 When I boot a machine dhcpd says to boot

AW: Unable to open configuration file "/etc/smb.conf" (or whereve r i specify)
Hi, it looks like you have something really messed up on your system. The size of the file is 1243 bytes (from strace) but 0 bytes are being read. If you had no permission to read the strace would have looked like this: open("/etc/samba/smb.conf", O_RDONLY|O_LARGEFILE) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied) A quick look at the source code reveals: /etc/samba/smb.conf is opened in file_load

machine account not accessible
Hi, I'm setting up a PDC, but joining the clients (w2k, nt4) fails. I use this in smb.conf: add user script = add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 100 -s /bin/false -M %u Just using the script I get the error: "no account in domain" under linux. Useradd itself works but it seems to fail for samba. All clients originally used a nt4 PDC. Now this nt4 PDC must be

Upgrading samba from Fedora RPM
Hello, We have a samba file server running on Fedora Core 1. I have installed 3.0.11 from RPM package for Fedora. This release have some problems and I need to upgrade. Instead of usinf RPM, I'd like to build samba myself from the sourcecode. I already do that without problem but when installing binaries, lib and config files, it uses default installation directory (ie /usr/local/samba)

nmbd fails to start - permission denied
Hello all, I have a new RHEL5 host, with nothing installed that falls outside of the Base package group (that I selected) plus the CUPS 1.2.4 and Samba 3.0.28 packages. All I've done to date on this host is perform yum updates to installed packages and set up configurations for Samba and CUPS. Once all of that was in place, I started up Samba via the Red Hat startup script, but

Howto Samba and Win2K?
I've got a home network with using win2k pro. Do I need to set Samba up as a pdc for the w2k machines to connect? Currently I've got my w2k machines set up as a workgroup and simply set up Samba as a member of that workgroup. My problem is that I cannot connect to it. I see my samba box in my network neighborhood, however, I cannot browse it. I'm running Samba 2.2.2 that came with
