Samba PDC + OpenLDAP (Debian Lenny)
Hey. I'm trying to move my existing MS-AD over to SAMBA, the place I'm working for is changing all servers from MS to Debian, but all the clients is still a mixed environment for now. We have MAC, *NIX, and Windows clients, so its imported that everything keeps running in the same or almost the same way as before the change but. When I try to join a Windows Vista Ultimate ore Windows

winbindd stays at 100% CPU having joined a domain
[ Please would anyone replying to this maintain the Cc list here as my dear colleague is not subscribed to this mailing list. ] Hello all, I am trying to track down an oddity with winbindd. We're using samba only to join a given domain -- so the config file is very minimal, as per: [global] workgroup = TEDDYBEARS netbios name = SMOOTHWALL realm = TEDDYBEARS.LOCAL security = ads

FW: Was: Win98SE and Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Well as a further to my last, I broke down and put a copy of Win98SE on a spare HDD in my Mandrake server box. First moment it was up and running, I tried to transfer the files between the two problem computers and BINGO! It worked. So sadly I must assume that the problem must lie on my Linux server :( As I have previously tried both Mandrake 8.0 and Redhat 7.1 and end up with the same transfer

Was: Win98SE and Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Well the weekend didn't bring any solutions to this unhappy camper. I spent most of my time trying to narrow down the problem again. I started out by installing a quick copy of ZipSlack on the Win98SE machine to determine once and for all if the problem was a Windows problem or not. Well, I tried a simple FTP from the ZipSlack to my Mandrake 8.0 server and it hung up like in Windows. So I

NTLM protocol/multiple DCs
I'm trying to modify the typical Squid/ntlm_auth/winbindd arrangement to support authenticating to multiple independent domains. I have a prototype solution but would like to know if it would work in the general case. (I used http://davenport.sourceforge.net/ntlm.html as a reference for the NTLM protocol.) In the prototype I have multiple instances of winbindd and ntlm_auth with a

Win98SE to Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Thanks for the answers so far but I haven't been able to come up with an solution yet :( Some new info (see bottom of email for history): 1. I upgraded to 2.0.10 on my Mandrake 8.0, no change to the transfer problem. 2. I attempted to ftp a file from the Win 98SE PC to my Samba Server, didn't work. So I can assume that it is not specifically Samba problem. 3. I have changed the NIC cards

Samba 2.0.7 and Win98SE
I have been having an irritating problem with my home network. My network consists of 1 PC running Mandrake 8.0 as the file server with Samba 2.0.7, three PCs running Win98SE and one PC running Win XP. I have had the network running for almost two years in various OS configurations and for the most part have had smooth operations. However, my problem comes when I try and copy, move, or save any

Netbios name resolution with DHCP
I have a network with RH7.2 (netbois name "server"), Mandrake 8.1 ("Linuxbox"), Smoothwall ("Smoothwall"), WinNT ("di-bosco"), Win 98 ("robertw" & "Nicole") x 2 and Win 2k ("DiBosco2k"). Smoothwall is the DHCP server. Why would it be that all the Windows machines can ping to a netbios name, eg ping server, ping Linuxbox

Free memory was ~50MB (Typically is 1.5-2GB), and cache was 2.5GB. Stopped the move, however cache

vfat / ftruncate problem
I recently added a 60Gig HD to my little linux server at home with the intention of sharing it via Samba to all my PCs which run Windows 98SE. I really want to use vfat file system on it. The server is running Mandrake 8.1, so kernel 2.4.something, and the Samba that came with it. Much to my disappointment I quickly discovered poor performance copying files to it, the copy is like slow to get

Can't Access Win2000 Shared Resources from Linux
Greetings, I'm running Linux Fedora Core 2 with Samba 3.0.3-5 installed. In Gnome, when I click Computer->Network->Windows Network->Workgroup I can see the Windows boxes on my network (2 Win98SE + 1 Win2000 Workstation). I can access everything on the 2 Win98SE boxes. I can print from Linux to a shared printer on one of the Win98SE boxes. When I click on the icon for the Win2000
