Can't see shares on a server member
Hi team, I'm dealing with AS/U as a member server on a Samba 3.0.20 PDC. Jonction seems ok, and from the member server I can see PDC's shares (with net view) and authenticate user (with net logon user passwd /domain:domainname). On the other side, I fell into timeout when running smbclient -L member from the PDC. Here is a log.nmbd loglevel 10 from PDC as there is no other log

current master browser = UNKNOWN / failing WINS test #1 on 3.0.23c
I am having trouble with one of my samba PDC's. It does not recognize itself as the domain master browser even though it is set to be so. I can not add machines to this domain and I suspect this is why. Has anybody seen this or know what causes it? Notice this: DOMAIN_ALBANY(3) current master browser = ALBANY_PDC DOMAIN_NYC(2) current master browser = NYC_PDC

smbclient sees the virtual samba server but not the windows clients
Hello Again! I now have a virtual host serving (almost) samba and a real one serving samba under the original name. On the local machine, I can access the the virtual host through smbclient and smbmount. Everything seems all right. Unfortunately, the virtual host won't serve the windows-9x machines. The virtual (and real) host both appear on the network browse list but when the win clients

Can join domain; can't logon
I had a problem similar to my current one a week or so ago, and I was encouraged to upgrade from Samba 2.2.9 to 3.0.7, which I did. Now that I've completed that nightmare, the problem I initially set out to fix is still there, just different. Namely: I am trying to set up Samba 3.0.7 on a SuSE 9.1 box as an LDAP PDC whose only job will be authentication. Our LDAP server is on a separate

Joining winXP SP3 in samba 3.3.9 + openldap backend, why does't work?
Hello Dear Fellows, I'm trying to join my vbox windows xp sp3 machine, to my samba server. When I inform my administrator user: "root", and his password XP says: "Erro durante a tentativa de ingresso no dom?nio "CORP_TRIARIUS": O dom?nio especificado n?o existe ou n?o p?de ser contatado." What in english means somthing like: "An error occurs when try to

Samba, and NFS. lag?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Afternoon! I have a samba server, which shares out an NFS mounted share. It seems that everything works rather well, except that i get some lag when modifying a file. If i share a directory which is local to the samba server, no lag, everything works perfectly. However, when i share an NFS mounted volume, i get about 30 seconds of lag while writing

Access Denied - XCopy from Win2K SP3 to Samba 3.0.8
Right in the middle of a big XCopy from Win2K SP3 to Samba 3.0.8 I get an "Access Denied" kicked back from XCopy and it ends. XCopy is building dirs from scratch on the Samba server - starting for a clean empty share. XFS FS on the server, Debian Sarge. I've heard of odd things with RoboCopy, but what about XCopy doing this? I suppose I will be cranking up the logs... or is there

Probably a bug in samba audit
Hi. I got this email-address from BUGS.txt file of the samba distribution. I read it carefully. I got configured and working samba, I work with samba above one year. I still have a problem, and, according to the samba log output, I think it's probably a bug. When I try to use the shares with audit support, I have my Far disconnected and telling me that something is wrong. I have that

Samba 3.0/wins.dat - 'Old' IP being served
Hi all, We have a weird problem, Samba is providing an outdated IP address for a client (XP Pro) machine. This means that the client machine is not contactable by the other machines on the network. The IP is that which was previously used when connecting via the company VPN, although the machine has/is now plugged onto the company network and had has new IP via DHCP. This problem continues

ignoring malformed3 datagram packet
Hi, after quite some testing I do now have my Samba4 setup in production use. The setup mainly consists of an AD-Controller and an AD Member Server which provides file shares to about 20 Windows 7 clients. Everything is working well so far except for two somewhat 'special' clients. For these I observe the following: 1) On the AD Member Server periodically (every hour) appears a message in

storing of roaming profile fails
Hi list, a strange problem occurs in samba 3.0.8 (Debian 3.0.8-2 package): When a Domain-User tries to log off (WinXP SP2), the workstation fails to store the profile in the PROFILE-Path. The message "cannot store \\SERVER\Profiles\Administrator\Recent" pops up. But this is only the half truth. The directory for the user (f.e. Administrator) is been created. A few files are copied

MS DOS 7 XCopy copies the same file over and over
We use MS DOS 7 ala Win98 SE and the M$ client for DOS to logon to Samba 3.0.13 Debian Stable package from samba.org. Also one other unique thing, we have XCOPY32.EXE copied as XCOPY.EXE thus it is really XCOPY32.EXE we are executing, just as XCOPY.EXE. ;-) Example of failing line of code... echo f|xcopy u:\foo\bar.txt h:\file.txt where U: is the drive mapped to the server and H: is a local RAM

How to bulk add machine accounts during PDC hardware refresh?
Greetings- I have not found discussed / documented what to do with machine accounts when moving a Samba PDC to new hardware. I have seen that uid/gid numbers must match between the old/new system. I am thinking to use adduser to accomplish that, then make the numbers on the new server match, using a text editor. After that, can I simply enter the machine account entries by hand with a text

Someone with "Access Denied" from Windows pls try this test to compare notes with me
Long day yesterday for us here, first production implementation of Samba has to be rolled out and the client's old network reinstalled... cause: this "access deneied" issue which seems to be randomly affecting Samba implementations and from what I can see folks say Samba 3.0.2 was the last good build. If that describes you, please test this as I have come up with a way to turn the

failing WINS test #1
Hi Samba users, I'm using a typical Samba 3.0.14a PDC/Ldap setup. The pdc is also the WINS server. The wins server is working perfectly with one exception. The server cannot query itself. I searched through log.nmbd and this is what i found : > [2005/05/26 17:06:55, 4] > nmbd/nmbd_workgroupdb.c:find_workgroup_on_subnet(173) > find_name_on_subnet: on subnet 192.0.2.14 - name

wins host lookup fails
Hello, I am having problems getting nmbd to work as a WINS server. nmblookup fails, as lookups from a PC. If I turn the debugging way up, in the log.nmb, I see: [1999/12/20 18:55:26, 4] libsmb/nmblib.c:debug_nmb_packet(109) nmb packet from 160.101.120.62(44713) header: id=28190 opcode=Query(0) response=No header: flags: bcast=No rec_avail=No rec_des=No trunc=No auth=No header:

Official Samba builds for Ubuntu?
Greetings- I am wondering if anyone from the Samba team would happen to have interest in creating official builds for Ubuntu? To add a twist, unfortunately I would not be fishing for 7.10 packages, but rather 7.04 as we ran into too many issues with 7.10 whereas 7.04 seems rock solid stable. Or, are there packages built of Samba releases for Ubuntu external to samba.org? Thanks, -- Michael

Windows 7 Beta and Samba PDC
Hi all, I've been playing around with the Windows 7 Beta to see if it's viable for our company and I've been testing it with samba. I've been able to browse shares via \\server\sharename without a problem but I'm unable to get it to connect to the samba pdc (which currently works fine with XP / Vista). The error is "The following error occurred attempting to join the

cifs verses smbfs for Linux clients
I am somewhat confused... I understand that the preferred method to mount a Samba share with a Linux client is to use "mount -t cifs" rather than "mount -t smbfs". I get the impression that smbfs is samba.org developed code where as cifs is from elsewhere. Thus the point of confusion. Why is samba.org not developing the preferred code in this case? A sub question to that
