computing differences between consecutive vector elements
Dear R-users, I am a newbie to R so please excuse this naive question for which I couldn't seem to find online answers. I have this data frame containing a series of locations through time (x,y,z,t). I would like to compute the difference in x, y and z between t-1 and t. Sounds easy enough, but how on earth does one loop through vector elements and compute this difference? Thanks Thomas

Timeout question
Hi. I've got 2 Fedora Linux (a Master and a Slave) with RSYNC-2.5.7. I need to keep Master synchronized every 5 minutes (mounting a remote directory with NFS on Slave). It runs correctly. To simulate a problem, I try to disconnect the lan cable. From the shell of Slave: rsync -a -v --timeout=10 --delete /mnt/master/ /local/slave I expect that the process will end after 10 seconds, but

Network printing HP 843C over Samba
Hay all. I've been setting up a linux gateway with an ADSL connection and three windows boxes in a home network. Everything has gone smoothly with Red Hat 9 and data transfer rates have risen due to having a linux gateway instead of an Windows XP gateway. However, I've had horrible problems setting up network printing. I've got Samba set up and that is working fine with various

Bug in sd() and var() in handling vectors of NA (R version 2.7.1)?
In the previous versions of R (2.6.1), when a vector of NA was given to the functions 'sd' or 'var' with parameter na.rm = TRUE, it used to return NA. Now (2.7.1) it returns an ERROR : Example in 2.6.1: > sd(c(NA, NA, NA, NA), na.rm = TRUE) [1] NA Example in 2.7.1: > sd(c(NA, NA, NA, NA), na.rm = TRUE) Error in var(x, na.rm = na.rm) : paires d'éléments

averaging 3D datasets
Dear R-users, I've spent most of the day reading R documentation at length but couldn't find something perhaps obvious. I have a dataset made of 3 morphometric variables for a series of watershed [log(slope); log(drainage_area); distance_to_outlet] My aim is to predict the value of log(slope) for pairs of [drainage_area; distance_to_outlet] (sounds like a plain linear model fitting,

Some questions for understanding ocfs2 & drbd
Hello list, If i take a drbd over two hosts configured as dual primary, i can access files via ocfs2 from both sides. For this, on both sides i'ld have to mount the ocfs2-partition locally and both sides have their own ocfs-DLM, as far as i understood? So in Detail: 1. /dev/drbd0 configured in dual primary, taking one partition from each host 2. drbd0 is ocfs2 formatted 3. ocfs2-tools are

Help with gamm errors
Dear All Hopefully someone out there can point out what I am missing! I have a (large, several hundred) dataset of gardens in which over two years the presence/absence of a particular bird species is noted each week. I have good reason to believe there is a difference between the two years in the weekly proportion of gardens and would like to assess this, before going on to look in more detail at

using Rterm under cygwin, no possiblity to delete characters
Dear R-users, When I call Rterm from cygwin, I have no options but typing the exact syntax the first time. If I happen to hit the "delete" key (backspace), R dies when I press enter saying : Error: ... (error concerning the function on the last line of text) Execution halted Perhaps some of you have experienced this and found work arounds? One has to be pretty good to type without

Ubuntu 18:04 not getting 'home' directory from DC
Thank you for your reply. First I am using 'ad' backend (DC config is in first post below) and until I did a fresh install of a new DC Samba 4.8.2 on Ubuntu 18.04 the user/group id, shell, and home directory paths were correctly obtained from the RSAT UNIX Attribute Tab settings on the DC.  It seems that is still working for users already created with existing home directories on the

Ubuntu 18:04 not getting 'home' directory from DC
Thank You Louis and Rowland for your help, Seems samba version in Ubuntu 18.04 was the key, (Samba version 4.7.6-Ubuntu). I was using an old smb.conf that has always worked on my Ubuntu 16.04 workstations: [global] realm = XX.DOMAIN.COM workgroup = XX security = ADS dedicated keytab file = /etc/krb5.keytab kerberos method = secrets and keytab idmap config *:backend = tdb idmap

Fwd: Re: Ubuntu 18:04 not getting 'home' directory from DC
Sorry for the delayed response, Louis, I'm not sure how to tell about having "cifs/UPN" - Please advise. I was able to mount with sec=krb5 after the user is logged in but that does not help getting "home" mounted during the login. But here is where I am now: I have been able to pam_mount "home" during the login but could not get the ACLs during the mount

Ubuntu 18:04 not getting 'home' directory from DC
Rowland, How would I find this info? Check if 'Rachel Jones' has a 'gecos' attribute in AD. You seem to be being denied access to '.Xauthority', was it created on another machine ? No However, I am sure '-13' usually means incorrect password. I am sure the password is correct, the /mnt/home/rachel folder is created but the user files are not created because

Create Domain Trust Help Samba-4.3.2
First, Thank you all for this forum, as I am fairly new at both Ubuntu and Samba I have found most the answers to my issues here.
