W2k fails to join samba domain
Ok, I have a really frustrating one here.
Attached is the capture of what is on the wire when this win2k box is trying to
join the domain. It was given user "root" and password "dork" to join the
domain "aussec". The win2k box just comes up with unknown user or bad password...
I must be missing something as another linux box can join the domain properly

best way to access samba shares remotely without VPN
Hi all,
I'm wondering what is the best way to access samba shares securely over the
net. I saw sslbridge and davenport but they don't seem to be managed
properly. I was thinking of using webdav via https. I dont want to use VPN
as im using openvpn and it is not support well with Mac iOS and OSX client.
webdav is supported well.

Browsing through a tunnelled VPN connection
Hi there,
I am trying to determine the best way for this to be done.
I'm currently using a VPN software package called OpenVPN, which I
connect to through a tunneled connection.
When I connect to the VPN I am given an IP address of 192.168.3.6, and a
subnet mask of 255.255.255.252. The Samba server has an IP address of
192.168.2.101 and has a subnet mask of 255.255.255.128. A WINS

adding printers from netlogon script
While this doesn't relate specifically to Samba, I need to do this in a netlogon .bat file
in a Samba domain. In my network, I have a printer hooked to a JetDirect so that it is a
TCP/IP printer. Is there a way I can automatically have this printer mapped/added when the
user is logged on?

user management tool
There was talk a few weeks ago about the possibility of a Tk-based user management tool
that never happened. I'm planning on trying to do this myself. What features were to be in
the one that never materialized? What features might people want in it? To begin, the
program will only be able to do things that can be done straight through the existing
command line tools (net, smbpasswd,

VPN connection before login
I imagine something like Cisco AnyConnect on Windows, where you can connect before login to the machine. So afterwards user specific network shares are available and can be connect via scripts.
I have an openvpn server running.

ipsec-tools with cisco vpn client
Hi,
anybody successfully running win32 client with Cisco vpn client against
ipsec-tools? I'm looking for elegantly running VPN road warrior solution.
Scenarios are:
- ipsec-tools with Cisco vpn client
- pptpd with Windows XP native client
- OpenVPN with OpenVPN Windows client
- ???
Any hints? Thanks for reply.

Optimal VPN
I am looking for the optimal VPN. Well it doens't have to be that elaborate.
Just the best VPN. We currently have some customers using PPTP, some using
openvpn, some using Cisco Any Connect and there are a few others.
So my question is, if you have control of both ends (client and server)
what is the best VPN to use? There are not too many requirements, but a
big one is
The VPN must return

Samba network shares over VPN
Hi there,
I have two computers, one Windows XP other Windows 7 (actually a dozen
each) which are members of a Samba domain. Users have no problem login
in to the domain, running the login script to map network drives and
accesssing files on them, for both computers.
I want to give users remote access using a VPN (OpenVPN to be exact).
The idea is to login on a disconnected computer using a

IPSec is not recommended solution nowdays. OpenVPN runs top of single udp
or tcp port, so it usually works on strictly firewalled places like in
hotels and so on.

VoIP over virtualized VPN
Hi List,
Our company has several small distributed offices we would like to
inter-connect with bridged VPN a single subnet (last example in
http://www.shorewall.net/OPENVPN.html). We have SIP phones in every
office (up to 5) so we can use SIP without any NATing and securely.
Max theoretical simultaneous calls possible ~30, but we have ~5-10 @
regular basis.
OpenVPN server would be in the same

IPfire router/firewall(openvpn client) --->ISP(Internet)--->Amazon
VPS(openvpn server).
The ipfire router is behind a CARRIER-GRADE NAT, I am able to reach the

[SUSPECTED SPAM] VPN over SSH: State of the art?
I know that this has been discussed before and I know that you should avoid
it, and use a real VPN solution.
I would like to move from port-forwarding via ssh to VPN and I have only
the ssh port open.
What is the current state of the art if you want to create VPN over ssh?
