Dear colleagues, I?m trying to replace an NT 4.0 PDC with a Samba 3 RedHat Enterprise Server. Following some instructions on the web I get almost everything (users, groups) using the "net vampire" command. The shares are working and it seems to be working fine. database got corrupted, users could not login
I'm running Samba with LDAP on SuSE. Users had trouble logging in - finally I just ran db_recover & restarted ldap and samba. It looks like the LDAP database got corrupted somehow because samba couldn't get the LDAP data. Also I created accounts with smbldap-useradd -m -a -B 1 username. Some of the users were just using the same password samba seemed to kick them out. I used

Samba 3.0.24 + OpenLDAP
I'm using the above version of Samba with OpenLDAP. I also use the smbldap-useradd script to add users, like below. I'm finding that I also have to have an account in /etc/passwd for the user to get in otherwise I get the message below. I thought that the ldapsam:ldap://localhost/ would not require the /etc/passwd entry. What did I miss? # Adding a User (doesn't work)

> -----Original Message----- > From: Andrew Bartlett [mailto:abartlet@samba.org] > > passdb backend = ldapsam:"ldaps://ldap1 ldaps://ldap2" > is what you want. This helped me a little bit forward. I suggest to add this line also to samba-pdc help. But still I ran into problems. I fixed the passdb lines on PDC and BDC. If the second server (on PDC slave-ldap and on BDC

BDC and ldap set-up problem
Hi, I could use some confirmation on my approach to configuring my BDC. I want the user to be able to access shares on the BDC and have their domain credentials stamped on any files they create. I do not want to add domain users to the /etc/passwd file. At the moment users can authenticate onto the domain but once they try and access a share on the BDC, these XP users get a dialogue box asking

Samba 3.0.0beta1, NT4 Joining a Domain Problems
Hi, I'm trying to test Samba 3.0.0 beta 1, and so far, one problem I have spent the last couple hours trying to solve, is a problem I am having joining the domain with an NT4 workstation. The samba server is a PDC, and when I try to join the workstation to the samba controlled domain using the root account (which worked on Samba 2.2.8 just fine), I get a message on the NT workstation that it

(I posted this online to linux questions, it could be easier to read on there... http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-server-73/samba-and-openldap-authentication-issues-637647/) The problem is users created in smbldap-useradd can not login, unless they also are a local user. for

Cannot log in to domain
Hi folks, Just yesterday, my Samba installation on OpenSlug suddenly stopped working, out of the blue. Now, users on my WinXP SP2 systems cannot under any circumstances log in to the domain. Local Windows users however can map shares with no problem. When a domain user attempts to log on to a domain member PC (joining the domain works fine, by the way), they are denied with the generic Windows
