large file pre-allocation causing Windows error
I'm trying to copy a 400 MB file from a Windows 98 host
to a FreeBSD 4.5 Samba server providing access to a FAT32
filesystem. I've got "strict allocate = no", but from
what I can see with debug set to 10, it is doing a
ftruncate which takes about 50 seconds to complete.
It appears that Windows gets impatient and generates
an error (while Samba is still waiting for the

Using a Windows XP client when I attempt to change the file permissions

the security permissions tab again I notice the permissions have

When opening a file it takes up to half a minute!
Greetings,
in our small network with about 10 Clients I got a problem when opening
files or directories. If there were no actions between server and client
for about 2 minutes or more, the very first action (open file, change path,
etc) needs a long long time.
The problem occurs on some clients (win 2k/xp), but not on every client. I
tried a working smb configuration from home, but still no

samba problem: Multiple Heap Overflows Allow Remote Code Execution
Dear Jeremy: We use samba 2.2.12 as our samba server, and it worked perfectly before, but now there is one security problem found in samba 3.0 now, so we worry about our samba server, but for some reason we can't update to samba 3.0.25, so can you tell us whether the problem be existent in samba 2.2.12, or how can I test our samba server with some tools software?

Trouble Creating Folders
Greetings,
I am running 2.2.7a as a domain controller on RH 8.0
When I attempt to create a folder I get the following

If I continue everything goes file (the folder is
created and I can access it). I find a file in there

Open file error....samba 3.0.28a
When I try to open a specific file from a samba share (LSP), the application (on WINXP) says that it could not open the file.
The errors pasted below (from the smb client) show something different from anything I've seen before. Usually these kinds of problems are straight forward. In other words, usually this is a permission issue. In this case, it is not.

share is read-only since 3.0.3 - "access is denied"
Hi,
I've a samba-3.0.2a running perfectly on redhat-8.
Filesystem is EXT3 with ACL support.
I can't upgrade the PDC to 3.0.3 or 3.0.4, because shares are only
read-only.
In 3.0.3 only home share and temp share are writable.
All other shares are in read-only mode. Users can see the files/directories,
but can't save anything or create new items.
When trying to create a new item -

Intermittent ACCESS DENIED
In a follow-up to a previous post a couple weeks back, we've implemented a
Samba 3.0.20 (Suse packages on 10.0 - recompiled to include idmap_rid)
server to replace the Windows 2000 file server in our Win2003 Active
Directory. For the most part things have been going well, but occassionally
people will get access denied errors to things that they were accessing just
fine minutes before. With

Problem to create directories
Hi all,
I have a problem with samba : I can create files, but can't create directories.
The server has many shares, on seperated disks.
We consider two of them : one 2Tb share and one share with more than 7Tb.
Samba configuration is good, and works on many other servers, and on this one except for the large share. Permissions are correctly setted up too.
I can read/write files and

Can't get user list in Win98se
Hello all,
I've already searched the old topics about this subject on the
newsgroup, and haven't found so far an alternative to solve the problem.
I have a Samba PDC (domain JMU) with Mandriva 2006, samba 3.0.13-2 and
OpenLDAP 2.2.23 (nss_ldap 220) .
Packages installed on the server related to samba and ldap:

Weird permissions problem
I could still really use some help here....
After spending hours on this, I have determined that it's only my user
account that is having this problem. Everyone else can access 700
files/directories owned by them just fine.
Thinking of perhaps a UID conflict somewhere, even though there didn't
appear to be one, I deleted my account and recreated it with a new UID,
copied everything

Msdfs
Hi!
I'm trying to set up a msdfs to complete the move of our id-department
fileshares from a win2003 server to samba.
But it doesn't work and from what I can understand when reading the logs
Samba doesn't make any attemt to connect the share on the other server.
So, my question is, how can I confirm that msdfs acctually are compiled into
my samba-version?
I add a trace from the
