cant see cups print queues via samba.
It is possible to see the print queue and via NT4's printer window.
Correct? And remove the jobs too, right? But not for me.
cups-1.0.5, samba-2.07 on linux-2.2.15
queues show ok using lpq
printing from nt works ok using samba.
in smb.conf I have:
printing = cups
print command = lpr -P%p -s %s; rm %s
lpq command = /usr/local/bin/lpq -P %p
lprm command = /usr/local/bin/lprm -P %p %j

Re: glitch - win98 and driver download
This was the answer to a question posed on the Samba list almost a year
ago. The following regarding Windows 98 printer names seemed to get
lost:
In windows 98, printer name:

<= 8: full functionality
I also tried an 8.3 printername: testtest.tst, which

Samba 2.2.7a & CUPS 1.1.18, Win2k is not downloading cups windows drivers
I'm building an new server with CUPS 1.1.18 and Samba 2.2.7a (Both compiled
from source) Installed the printer with CUPS and printed a test page with
CUPS. Next step make Samba use CUPS. I've used cupsaddsmb command to do
this, which completed successful.
Running command: smbclient //localhost/print$ -N -U'root%XXXXXXXXX' -c
'mkdir W32X86;put /var/spool/cups/tmp/3e1bf35d1d1f9

XP SP1 Clients wont print to Samba / Cups Server
Hi All,
I have gained my basic Linux / Samba knowledge from
using SME server (www.contribs.org)
More recently I have started to use Trustix Linux to
build servers for specific things for example as a
print server.
I installed Trustix and the most recent Cups/Samba rpm's
from the repository (I am pretty sure they are the latest
stable releases) but I can check version numbers if this
helps.

cann't get cups printrers visible to windows XP
I am having an awful time getting a cups printer on a linux system
visible to windows XP. I have the printer, a brother hl1440 laser,
working on Linux cups,named 1440. I then created another printer on it
called raw-1440 and specified raw driver so teh Windows XP driver would
be used. Here is my smb.conf entries:
load printers = yes
printcap name = cups
printing = cups

Is Samba for me? (win2k sp4 pdc -> samba)
I have a Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4 PDC (AD backend) that I'd like to
replace with Samba.
The docs on samba.org are a bit confusing though, here is an excerpt
from Chapter 4, "Domain Controller Types":
Samba-3 servers can readily be converted to and from domain
controller roles through simple changes to the smb.conf file.
Samba-3 is capable of acting fully as a native

Solution! CUPS Printing / Win2K with Access Denied
Hey Samba team... I'll still buy you pizza!
Anyway, trying to be good security folks, we had tossed in a global setting in smb.conf that root was an invalid user. No Windows client will ever have an account named that which they need to touch
Samba with, and everyone knows it is bad bad bad to logon to your Linux box with root... but anyway, Samba sure seems to have an opinion about doing

Win2K cannot retrieve print driver, XP is okay
Hi all,
I'm having trouble persuading Windows 2000 to find the print driver on
a CUPS/Samba 3.0.20 server. The whole system has been working
perfectly with Windows XP clients for the last couple of months, but we
have a few Windows 2000 PCs/servers that need to have the printers
installed, and when double-clicking on a shared printer the Win2K
machines are saying that the print server

Hi List,
can I assume that the problem with win2K/XP displaying wrong free space
of a samba share is fixed in Samba 2.2.5. ?
I found a hint on that in the following message from Jeremy Allison to
th samba-tec list:
"20. 2002-05-09 Re: WinXP and Win2K see wrong free space on Samba 2.2"
but can't figure out wether the issue is really solved.
I need this for a cutomer, but
