force user (S) This specifies a UNIX user name that will be assigned as the default user for all users connecting to this service. This is useful for sharing files. You should also use it carefully as using it incorrectly can cause security problems. This user name only gets used once a connection is established. Thus clients still need to connect as a valid user and supply a valid password. Once

rsync: readdir(.): Bad file descriptor (9)
Hi, I've spent the better part of three weeks tracking into this problem. I hope you don't mind a post here on smbfs, but I was hoping someone might have some insight or ideas on where to look next. Summary: trying to rsync folders across an smb mounted share with EXACTLY 50 objects (folder or files), results in the error rsync: readdir(.): Bad file descriptor (9) Details The problem

Newbie - RedHat 7.2, Samba 2.2.5 problem - I'm begging here
Hello Samba Guru's, I have been fighting with Samba on my RedHat 7.2 machine on my home LAN for about two weeks now. Had no problems getting it working on a machine at work running Debian powerpc 'woody' and Samba 2.2.1a but for the life of me I can't get it working at home. It appears to be a netbios problem. The box shows up in network neighborhood and when I do a net

Weird Auth issue
OK, running Samba 3.0.0 on RH9 in a W2K AD environment. MIT Kerberos 1.2.7. Joined the domain with no problem, wbinfo and getent respond perfectly. I can get Kerberos tickets from the W2K domain and browse domain resources from the RH9 box, both with krb tickets and by supplying a password, although using the -k option does not display the "network neighborhood" browse list. However,

RH Server/Client disk sets -> Centos; how?
I'm running Centos on 12 machines. Colleague runs Redhat Enterprise Linux and while studying his system, I see some gibberish/complication about his system being a "Client" install, not a "Server" install. Apparently, RH provides completely different disk sets for Server and Client installs. I've gone to the RH website and read about the difference between Client and

W2K3 SP1 - PERSISTENT CONNECTION(S) BUG?
After testing my W2K3 SP1 terminal server against a SAMBA server *AND* a W2K server, I have noticed the following *odd* behavior. LOGIN: Map drive letters LOGOUT: Connections are still connected. on BOTH W2K and SAMBA file servers. LOGIN: Map drive letters LOGOUT: Now you have TWO sets of connections still connected for the one user. REPEAT: For each time you repeat the above procedure, you

W2k connection problem
I have several users using samba as a server for their Goldmine5.0 database. All was fine until add a new computer with Widows 2000. Now they are having corruption problems with the Goldmine database. The problem never occurs unless the W2k computer is running Goldmine. One thing that I have noticed in the samba log reports that the W2k machine connects and then immediatly disconnects. However

connection problem to W2k DC
Hi, we are using Samba 2.2.5 in a somewhat larger configuration: a big NFS file server and a separate box acting as a NFS/SMB gateway. Usually there are about 200-250 connected clients. The box is a Sun Netra T1 AC200 with Solaris 8. Sometimes we get the following (loglevel 1): [2002/07/01 11:48:50, 1] smbd/service.c:make_connection(615) si17062 (10.2.202.88) connect to service mrd8si as user

[LLVMdev] LLVM for Java
I'm working on a Java implementation of portions of LLVM and have a question about licensing. The project won't contain any LLVM source code although I can foresee using JNI stubs that link against LLVM libraries. It does however in many cases follow LLVM APIs. From my understanding of the University of Illinois/NCSA license this means: 1. I need to include the copyright notice

queuepause/queueresume and w2k machines, won't work
RH 7.2 linux, LPRng, and samba 2.2.5-1 rpm, security = domain using winbind to auth to NT PDC, also connecting to an NT WINS server on a different subnet. I discovered the reason the queuepause and queueresume wasn't working when I specified it ("/usr/sbin/lpc stop %p" and "/usr/sbin/lpc start %p") was because the file was being executed with the uid/gid of the login
