XP Pro And Samba
I have a win98 peer to peer network using a Samba server for file sharing. There 6 Machines on the net. I'm adding a XP Pro and cannot see the neighborhood network. I can get out to the Internet. I've made sure the workgroup name is correct and the XP is not set as DHCP. Our router is the DHCP. Is there something different about setting up the user for the XP Pro? I'm creating

2.2 to 3.0.x PDC upgrade: an XP box no longer authenticates domain users with the Samba PDC
Hi! I've recently been upgrading a Samba 2.2 installation to 3.0 (on a SuSE 9.3 machine, specific version is 3.0.13-1.1-SuSE). Everything went more or less okay, but I'm stumped on the following problem... here's the general setup: * Samba acting as a PDC (named "servidor"). Was upgraded from 2.2 to 3.0. I copied the smb.conf file, and the

Single Sign-on for UI development (Re: Samba-tool --simple-bind-dn?)
I'm going to rephrase my question Are any of you using any time of single signon technology to interact with active directory in a development project? I'd like to be able to grab the authentication with a user first authenticates as a domain admin via, say Apache, and then re-use this auth to give this admin a list of domian user. Not sure of the best approach. -- Greg J. Zartman

SOLVED: Win XP Client password change nightmare.
First of all, thanks a lot to John H Terpstra for his kind and useful help. The problem was something quite simple, the password chat. It really needs asterisks even at the beginning of each line. For CentOS (Red-Hat), this works (notice the red asterisks): password chat = "*New*password*" %n\n "*Retype*password*" %n\n "*updated*successfully*" This does not:

Problems with 2.2.8a PDC/3.0.2aBDC and XP
Hi, I continue to have strange problems with out attempt to migrate from 2.2.8a to 3.0.2a. After a couple of days around the subject my last attempt at trying to figure out what is happening was as follows: MDK 9.1 with Samba 2.2.8a as PDC with LDAP, this is our current production server (we want to upgrade to MDK 10.0 and Samba 3). The idea is to migrate to a temporary server to free ou

new user - documentation nightmare
I had located and installed wine via rpm only to discover that I needed to compile from source to get --with-opengl. Fine. The documentation with the source is written in sgml. Turns out sgml, specifically Mozaic, died on the vine thirty years ago, replaced by xml, sort of. Mozilla doesn't open sgml. A search suggested Netscape might. Curious. So I installed 7.2. It doesn't

Suggestions on initial CentOS 4.3 Install packages
Hello, all... I'm attempting to learn Linux (on a CentOS setup) by doing something productive at the same time. I've already installed it twice...once with a "full, just install everything" setup and another by following the Perfect CentOS 4.3 Web Server Setup instructions on HowToForge.com. Though I've had issues with both, I have a lot of patience and time is not a big

profile problems with XP and my samba box

AW: Samab and a NT4.0 PDC
Actually i should rephrase that. Samba works fine, but what do I put down as `valid users'? certainly I can't use %U like with the template homedir. Any suggestions? PAM Error on POP3s auth? And apop?
Fellow Dovecot'ers, I've -almost- got Dovecot completely functional, and I will add that it works just fine for non-authenticated POP3. The problem begins when I try to use authentication for same against the system's /etc/passwd section. Win XP Client password change nightmare.
Hello, I have setup a Samba server with CentOS 5.2 and Samba 3.0.28-1.el5_2.1 (the CentOS included versi?n). I have configured Samba as a PDC following "Samba-3 by example" chapter 3, "Secure Office Networking". No DNS or DHCP active, as far as for now this is just a test environment. Most of it works fine, but trying to change user passwords for a MS-Windows test computer

Samba PDC/LDAP Questions
Howdy all... I am trying to use two different samba servers in a test environment such that a Win98 SE user logs into his/her workstation, authenticates/authorizes themself via the PDC, and then mounts a different samba server to store his/her files. By files I *guess* I mean profile as this is where I assume that this user's personal files will end up. Question 1: Is this assumption that a

Nightmare! - an nginx alternative for unicorn
This is a slow client buffering layer which may be used instead of nginx to protect Unicorn from slow clients. Nightmare! will _never_ beat nginx in raw throughput nor performance. It /may/ be easier to setup than nginx and a suitable alternative to Rainbows! for users who do not wish to maintain a thread-safe/async-safe Rack application. Code changes to the existing Unicorn codebase are
