Migrate DC from Small Business Server 2011 to Samba 4
Hello Thor, >From our experience with one client whom had the same situation as you, we first migrated exchange to another mail system then we migrated the AD part. The SBS version we had to migration only allowed a secondary DC for a fixed period of time . The Exchange mail extensions were properly handled by Samba, even if they weren't used anymore. I don't remember the exact

Migrate DC from Small Business Server 2011 to Samba 4
Hi, I want to migrate a Windows Small Business Server 2011 domain controller to Samba 4. The SBS2011 has about 40 users and 100 client computers. Also about 50 GPOs are in use. Furthermore there is Exchange running on the SBS and it has to stay there for the next couple of month (it will be replaced by a new mail system later). So far I think I can either try to migrate or start from

How to change SID in ntuser.dat?
Hello, i try to migrate user/groups from NT4 PDC to Samba3 with LDAP backend. There is already an NIS-Server with Samba runing, so there exists two userlists. I migrated the user/ groups from windows via net rpc vampire and added/changed the UID?s from the NIS-Server but didn?t change the SID. A teammate told me, there could be some access problems, if i don?t change the SID. So i tried to change

winbind and SBS 2003
Hi, I want vpn clients which have a valid x509 Cert and a valid user account in the M$ domain can access to the LAN. The M$ DC is an SBS2003 Server in mixed mode. I don't want to manage two user db's. I want the vpn server to ask the domain controller for a valid user account. So I've installed the nessecary stuff on the vpn server. The interresting things here are: samba/winbind

Vampire and Capital Letters
I find Linux to be a nightmare if usernames have capital letters. Some old Windows PDCs that we are vampiring have usernames with capital letters. AFAIK you can't change a windows username Is there a way of telling the vampire to make all usernames lowercase as it imports them? Can I use pdbedit or any other tool to make them lowercase? At the moment I am changing /etc/passwd and the

Migration to Samba from Windows 2000
OK, I'm attempting to migrate from a Windows 2000 domain operating in native mode to samba. Yea, I know I'm screwed because Windows is operating in native mode, but I know there has got to be a way around it. My first thought is to build another domain controller, have it join the domain as a new forest. Now I seem to be running into the problem of the mail server being in native mode

Bad passwords from Vampire / NT migration
I just did a clean install of Fedora 9 onto a Pentium 4 machine. It is actually running SELinux enforcing, but I haven't found any errors related to that so far. It is running Samba 3.2.3-0.20. I am trying to migrate a Windows NT 4.0 domain with about 30 users and 30 computers onto a pure Samba setup, using Samba as the PDC and tdbsam. I have read the HOWTO guide extensively, and

vampire account migration (3.026)
Hello, Using vampire to migrate accounts from an NT box and found that machine names were not created. Creating account: IT-NT$ Could not create posix account info for 'IT-NT$' Creating account: PDC$ Could not create posix account info for 'PDC$' <snip> And seemingly random user accounts were also not created. Can I make another pass with vampire to retrieve the missed

Samba 4 migration from dead SBS 2003
Hello, I have successfully joined a SBS 2003 (SRVACMPDC01) domain with two additional Samba 4 DCs (SAMBA4PDC and SAMBA4DEDI, currently both 4.0.4-GIT-9899851). Everything worked fine: DNS / AD replication etc. The windows server was still responsible for DNS / DHCP / all FSMO roles. Now the original SBS 2003 crashed and refuses to start again (long story). In order to get a temporary workaround

Hello everyone, I have a small question Is it possible that when I try to migrate with vampire the domain's database the application hangs up? net rpc vampire -S servpdc -U Administrateur%ioan Fetching DOMAIN database SAM_DELTA_DOMAIN_INFO not handled Creating unix group: 'Admins du domaine' The application stops there. I don't understand why. I created the

Help in performing a Half-Migration from NT to samba3.
I am currently planning "half a migration" (and half a new configuration) from NT to Samba PDC, and I would like to have some help. I have read the howto and I have understood something useful, but I also understood that I don't know enough of Samba domain internals to be sure not to make terrible mistakes. I currently have a NT4 PDC that also shares files and

AD migration questions.
Hi, I have a client that is in the process of decommissioning a SBS 2008 server. They have moved email off of the server and shutdown Exchange. They would like to switch to a samba AD DC and separate file server. According to https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Joining_a_Samba_DC_to_an_Existing_Active_Directory I should be able to add a Samba DC to the domain but I have a few questions about

migration problem at vampire step
We have run into the following problem when trying to run vampire against our PDC. I am not sure how to interprete the error messages here. Why are there 2 line numbers given? I have run into other problems with smbldap-tools and am not sure how to interprete those errors either. # # Since I initially wrote this : I have done some work on it and found that it has something to do with the

Problems in SAMBA 3.3 to 4.0 migration
Update I did update my Samba 3.3.4 PDC to 3.6.24 after MUCH grief, overcoming (at least) two library incompatibilities PLUS recalling the dusty old memories that if you start with Slackware, you use Slack's samba installer, not the source from Samba itself. I've fixed two library problems with libtalloc and libwbclient that prevented smbd from starting (with a Signal 6 - hard crash). It
