Quick analysis of 'Broken pipe' error at io.c(463)
This one has been biting me recently, and it seems to be completely
deterministic: it utterly fails on most directories, but when it fails
on one, it does so reproducibly. Also, I'm doing a simple copy from one
directory on my machine to another - there is no remote server or
network to fail. The drive is only 24% full.
Here's my take on it:
1) The error is printed as occurring in

Username Length and Password Expiry
I am having a problem with usernames that are longer than 8 characters
on the following system types:
Solaris 8, Solaris 9
OpenSSH 4.2p1
OpenSSL 0.9.8a
When logging in with an SSH client like PuTTY, OpenSSH or SecureCRT,
the username is truncated when the password is asked to be changed.
Below is output from a PuTTY session when logging in to a system with
an expired password and a username

Symlinks followed literally in Debian 3.0, not in Red Hat 7.3
Hi all,
I've encountered a problem in using Samba 3.0.4. I've got a Red Hat 7.3
box (johnboy) running as a domain controller, and we've got symlinks to
a bunch of NFS mounts on a different machine (pawalton) to give people
the necessary file access using only one SMB mount. For example, the
SMB share is under /smbfiles in the root directory of the Samba server.
Within /smbfiles,

Symlinks followed literally in Debian 3.0, not in Red Hat 7.3
After receiving requests to post answers to this query,
I figured I'd resubscribe to let people know that there is,
in fact, a way around this. When I upgraded johnboy to Linux
kernel version 2.6.10, all the formerly problematic symlinks
worked. Apparently, the 2.6.10 kernel fixed some issues in
the smbfs code relating to symlinks (thanks to Ted McManus for
pointing this out to me). So if

Yearly attempt at 'vampire' of NT4 domain
Hi all.
Since our NT4 PDC is on it's last legs, I've been motivated to once
again try to use samba's vampire functionality. Unfortunately I'm
actually doing worse than last year ...
My smb.conf:

socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
interfaces = 10.146.0.254/255.255.0.0

high nfs load after rsync finishes
Hi,
We have a cluster of Poweredge 1750s and couple storage nodes
(Powervault 220) running RH9 (2.4.20-31.9smp). We use rsync for daily
backups. The daily rsync write size is only around 10MB and read size
is ~300MB. The rsync finishes fast enough, but for around 4-5 hours
after rsync finishes, the load on the

I know it's really early in the project's life, but another question I had: How does the generated 68K code perform, at least compared to modern GCC?

Re: Windows XP machine not connecting to Samba 3.04 after upgrade
Hi,
as I wrote before: I'm not able to connect a Windows XP Pro notebook
to a Samba 3.0.4 server. All the other machines (most Windows XP Pro,
but also a few Windows 2000 and Windows 98) can connect without any
problem.
This one machine is not part of the NT domain because it needs to
connect 1 or 2 times a week only, and is on the road most of the
time.
The machine could connect

Rsync Hangs 100% of the time when copying files from win2k machin es to linux
Hey guys, I've been working with rsync for the last couple weeks and I
really need some help here. Linux to Linux transfers are working
beautifully, but for the life of me I can't get transfers from win2k to
work. I have the exact problem that was reported by Mark de Jong on Tue, 16
Jul 2002.
I'm using the lastest version of cygwin, with rsync 2.5.5 and ssh 3.5p1 for
my tests. The

Cannot cancel print jobs.
We are running the samba server on RH9 and use win98
and 2000 clients. We ran into two problems up to now,
both related to printing. We have two win98 machines
with printers (in two parts of the building). We want
to have all the print jobs from other machines to go
through the server before they are printed on these
machines.
First, we cannot not force the Win2000 machine to send

2.2.33.2 - Virtual Mailbox Issue bug maybe ?
Been experimenting with virtual mailbox and have a question :-
I have defined 2 virtual mailboxes 'all' and 'combined' as follows ...
virtual/all/dovecot-virtual

virtual/combined/dovecot-virtual
!INBOX
INBOX/Sent

When new mail comes I would assume that both virtual mailboxes should

Determinant function (PR#9715)
Full_Name: Krzysztof Podgorski
Version: R version 2.4.1 (2006-12-18)
OS: Windows XP
Submission from: (NULL) (130.235.3.79)
The function ''det'' works improperly for a singular matrix and returns a
non-zero value even if ''solve'' reports singularity. The matrix is very simple
as shown below.
A <- diag(rep(c(64,8), c(8,8)))
A[9:16,1] <- 8
A[1,9:16] <- 8

link SELinux context change with 3.0.8
With rsync-3.0.7-3.fc14.x86_64,
rsync -aX /lib/ /lib2
produced links with SELinux context,
system_u:object_r:lib_t:s0
with rsync-3.0.8-1.fc14.x86_64,
unconfined_u:object_r:lib_t:s0
Is this by design, or a regression?

Win SBS 2003 ADS and samba 3.0.8 authentication problem for 11th user
Hi,
I'm running samba 3.0.8 on SuSE 9.0 (heimdal 0.6-161) as a ADS member server
in a Windows SBS 2003 Domain (with 15 client access licences).
My problem is, that every morning, when people login the eleventh user
cannot connect to the samba shares.
After restarting nmb, smb and winbind, they can.
The log file for the client pc shows following error:
